Agate Plume Find!

  • I discovered a great new spot for myself to sneak away to and find some ridiculously amazing new rocks! You won't believe the colors in the jasper rocks I found. The agates were great too! The only thing missing from my day was a little bit more sunshine, but my new finds more than made up for that.
    The humongous piece of agatized petrified wood that I found at my new rockhounding spot will be fed to Drogon, my 18 inch slab saw, in an upcoming video! It really paid off to find this new great spot, my haul home of rock finds was definitely one of the best.
    Looking to learn about Yellowstone River agates? This is a publication from 1972 by a man named Paul Fry. This was the very first literature I read when I was learning about Montana agates. It is called "Meanderings of a Montana Rockhound" and it is priceless:
    pdf4pro.com/view/meanderings-...
    Here is another page with great information on Montana Agates by Jim Landon called "Montana Agate: The Best Catch on the Yellowstone River" :
    www.rockngem.com/montana-agat...
    For all those asking, I do not sell my rocks. As my supply permits, I do rock trades. So, if you have some nice specimens you think I would like to add to my collection, we can trade via any size flat rate post office box. Or, if you are an artist or have something else you think I would like, that's an option too! Please be patient as I have lots of emails and sometimes miss some. If you are wanting to purchase some Montana rocks, I have listed the Stores below of two fellow Montana Rockhounds KatyDidRocks and Theo Kellison, great friends of mine.
    As far as places I rockhound, greater than 90% of the time I utilize PUBLIC fishing access spots on the Yellowstone river. KatyDidRocks has a great book out on all the places us Montana rockhounds like to go on the Lower Yellowstone River:
    www.etsy.com/listing/1089523180
    While you are there, check out her store! She has some fantastic Montana rocks for purchase.
    KatyDidRocks Etsy Store:
    www.etsy.com/shop/KatyDidRock...
    Also, if you follow Theo Kellison on TH-cam, another fantastic Montana Rockhound, he has an Etsy Store with rocks for sale as well:
    www.etsy.com/shop/SticksandSt...
    Thanks for following and Rock On!
    Best of luck on all your hounding adventures.

      Where can I find one of battery powered sprayer? I'm all about the fore arm workout. But I've been seeing these power sprayers on multiple channels. Maybe it's time for an upgrade.

    • @MontanaRockMom
      @MontanaRockMom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matthewkite5110 so, there are 2 options: a battery powered and a USB water spray bottle. Both have pros and cons. The battery powered one goes through a lot of batteries, but it's easy to put a new set in if it dies. The USB one saves on the cost of batteries, but if it dies, you need a power source to recharge it. Both are available on Amazon. You can search battery operated water bottle and it will come right up....

      Why, what will tumbling do to it?

    • @gems2jewels
      @gems2jewels 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MajorBinkss Hello Major, if it is an orbicular jasper or "poppy" jasper sometimes tumbling brings out the orbs better. This one has different colors and if tumbling works away the outer layer then it might be really nice. I was thinking tumbling this one might really reveal the orbs, then again it might not. I've had some that were pretty amazing and after tumbling they became spectacular. Thanks.

The big wood was spectacular.... none better in Arizona. It is going to be torture trying to figure how to cut each on since each has so many choices. Since I will never collect again, I give away all of my old secret sites, BUT DON'T TELL A SOUL ABOUT THIS SPOT. That place is what old decrepit rockheads run across only a few times in a life: A Miracle Mineral Mound.

    Dendrites are manganese inclusions that seeped into cracks and vugs in the stone in one stage of it's formation and the element manganese can also be responsible for the coloration in quartz type stones. Jaspers and petrified wood for examples. You certainly have no shortage of brecciated jasper. It must have been an interesting geological history that made those. Whole to broken up then resolidified with a massive quartz intrusion.

      @@MontanaRockMom a boulder i found hiking 20+yrs ago. I had to roll it through a narrow creek bed a few ft. at a time. Sprained and ankle months went by. Hurt my shoulders month went by😂.. sprained my wrist same. When I finally had it about 10ft from the road I pulled over on my paper route and introduced myself. He was almost always up in the wee hrs. and though we'd never met I'd been seeing him in his garage un the middle of the night. He was big and very strong and was happy to take a drive and help me bring my rock home🙏 I was always afraid that someone would steal it from the front yard but here it is 20 something years later and it's still right where he put it LOL. I love your videos because I love how you get so excited about rocks, the internet has been a wonderful thing with regard to finding Kindred Souls so rock on lovely Lady🎉Also. Again, just thinking about your sweet boy answering you with such tenderness and concern in the recent ornament making video, makes me smile everytime I think of it🥰
      I'll have to make a short video of the aforementioned rock.
      When I do, I'll post a link and then would be delighted if You could tell me what it is.🙏🍀🌱🌄🙂

    Those are some amazing finds!I do have a question however, how come sometimes you say fortification banding and other times you say just banding? It doesn’t take much for me to get confused lol Is There a difference?

      Sorry for the confusion friends. Fortification banding generally refers to winding banding all around a pocket/void or bands/stripes that repeat (concentric banding) that make it look like the walls around a fortress (like in a fairburn agate). The bands follow the shape of the cavity. Sometimes I may just say "banding" because "fortification banding" is such a long phrase. Agate is made in a layering process, so most agate has banding in all different shapes and sizes and amounts, except of course Montana Agate, which may be dendritic without obvious bands. Waterline agates are formed when the layering happens slowly over time, usually from one end, where it fills up stacking on top of each other. Therefore, the banding is straight and parallel. Hope this helps!

      @@MontanaRockMom totally help!!! Makes sense! Thank you for that! And the explanation how water lines are formed. Very cool! I’m seriously addicted to agates. Lol another question for ya. How much longer are y’all able to rockhound on the Yellowstone river before winter comes? I’m planning on making a trip out there. It’s in the bucket list. Lol not sure if I would wait til next year or if I can come in like a month? I would be grateful for any info! Thank you!!! ❤️🙏

      @@rockersfromaz3001 last year we hardly had any snow, so I rockhounded throughout the entire winter. You can rockhound as long as we don't get dumped on with snow....which unfortunately is so unpredictable...but often melts quickly
