    What if the FO Probe Droid itself was a smaller part of a larger command unit? Like small spherical probes it carries, the FOPD could itself be one of many ferried within a larger droid mothership, perhaps around the size of a starfighter. It would stay in orbit and coordinate a search across enormous areas, then collect its probes and travel to the next star system.

      Useful? Heros like Boba fett did just fine. Even then just sending a massive fleet can handle basicly any threat. Zann, Rebel, or even Pirate. Zann is by far the biggest threat. Taking all you money means no ships. So its best to kill him off in the short term as fast as possible!!!
      Plus Zann has the giant gas clounds on his planets. Easy to spot. And rebels start with certian planets. So you can just conquest rush to get to them.

      Yes and it was the greatest probe machine I've seen to date ! Thing was fast enough to physically catch ships at combat speeds ! Like tf kinda reflex speed is that !? But then again the Automaton War Droid created by the Balmorran governor could do the same but this was just a good show of strength and how far tech had come since ANH. But anyways, the giant Hunter Killer Sentinel Viper or whatever it was called was 4x bigger than the falcon and had so much mass it could actually place multiple captured light freighter to heavy starfighters in it's holding chamber. Plus these things had several different weapons to take down or immobilize enemies, including, light to heavy turbolasers, concussion missiles, heavy repeating laser cannons, and independent command drives that allowed it to think on its own when getting a job done. It was a beast to reckon if you were newbie flying into an Imperial Fleet during Operation Shadow Hand...

    I like the idea of probes being modular and able to be swapped out wuth say like a long range sayellite that the probe can watch from orbit, or maybe a railgun variant, a variant that can tow escape pods in space, a variant that can set up as a sort of survival variant, hauling survival gear for long term operations

  • @michaelramon2411
    @michaelramon2411 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The probe is good, but I wish we saw the First Order using droid or cybernetic units more heavily than we do. It would fit with their lore of being more technologically advanced but low on people, and it would help to distinguish them as a faction from the Empire. Imagine swarms of TIE droids instead of the allegedly shielded and not much better performance-wise TIE/fo!

    It seems to me anyway that the Viper probe's pod is supposed to be disposable as it seems to smash to pieces when it hits Hoth's surface

    I see it as a bad upgrade.
    The Viper was use an alarm system or advance scout.
    I would have made it smaller and more stealthy, then you could deploy more units in same type of transporter the Viper used.
    The would also be the added benefit that if you have a pack of 3 or more droids you would have one report the destruction of the others.
    This would be useful as the destruction of on droid would indicate a threat that was worth investigating.

    I think the FO Probe Droid is way better than the Imperial Probe Droid. While the Imperial version was more than likely better armed, the fact that the FO version carried smaller probe droids that are armed is a huge force multiplier. Add to it the armor and suddenly the price for a fully loaded Spider can easily outperform the Viper.
    Blast it, I would dare say that it's role on the battlefield would be magnified.

    I don't think the First Order's version is supposed to be a replacement for the Imperial version. After all, the Empire used several kinds of probe droids, as did the Republic, and CIS. I'm sure what we saw here in Resistance is just one of several variants used by the First Order. It's an improvement, to be sure. But I think this one's meant to be a bit more "take no risks"; more expensive, yet less expendable. Something designed to defend the area they're probing, rather than - venture into possibly hostile territory.

    The viper droid is a cool machine and does indeed look more primal which also makes it spread fear. However the First Order variant is not serving for the same goals either. Yes, the intel part remains the same pretty much, although the Viper droid was capable of torturing their targets which the First order variant can not. It's just too bulky and it does not have the right tools for the job.
    That being said, the First Order variant does look pretty interesting. It has a new role and new toys for that role. But I still choose the Viper droid.
    Now how to upgrade the viper droid itself, well think about the integrated pod and trusters, but detachable. So when on the planet it still can detach part of it's pod while keeping a part as it's armor and on top of that keeping it's thrusters. This way it can move a lot faster and proofs to be a lot more agile without loosing it's capabilities. A upgrade to it's head shouldn't be much of a problem though, it will sooner show it becomes more sleek and usable. I do however find it interesting if there were small upgrades like a limited capacity shield, a cloak to some extend. But realistically seen the droid would have to become bigger and there for need a bigger power supply on top of that to function properly which on turn will also of course enlarge all other parts and still leave little space for those upgrades.

    Honestly I prefer the Concept art version over when is seen in that show but that is just me.

    3:25 different variants, the one from the series and the concept art have massive differences in size

      Yeah I guess I mean that they could have one the same size as the TV show one but with a drill to punch into ships, like a kind of different buzz droid system

      @@MetaNerdzLore More realistically if there was a large one it was to deploy alot of the spheres( unknown name for their type of droid) to take out the crew or cause breaches in the ship and vital areas.

    How about the probe droid seen in Rebels (Secret Cargo episode)..it looks more humanoid, with multiple eyes bit like sentinels from the Matrix!! 😉😋. The pod it was in was more like a small ship..with controls and mini cockpit..

    to be honest...... it seems less usefull with those thrusters not being used to theyr fullest potential the small probes being not as powerfull and rather weak Not to mention once those are gone the main probe seems to be an easy target having a seemingly bigger stature and having no means of efficiant self defence mecanism when it comes to it. The reconeccens and patrol function wich would be its main function would be seriously restrained by its bulky form and those small probes unable, due to theyr function and stature I presume, to efficiantly bypass any locking mechanism that stands in the way of them and theyr target.
    I know it is more advanced technology but to not make those thrusters rotary and the previously mentioned points make me think it could have been probably upgreated better.

    The only improvement I see are the built in hyperdrive (where?) And the small probe pods. The original design is much better imo.
    If the new version still had all the manipulators visibly dangling, I think I'd like it more.

    Ughghghggh. I hate how the First Order tech is so much more advanced than anything the Empire had, despite being vastly smaller. How did they research, develop and fund all this stuff? God forbid Disney make the stakes of the ST lower than the OT. Can’t have that. Gotta make everything BIGGER, LOUDER AND MORE BOOM BOOM!

  • @sst8166
    @sst8166 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I always asked myself why the droid is speaking loudly to himself. There are only disadvantiges like giving away your position (!!!!) and wasting energy. And since they are mostly on solo missions, there is absolutely no reason to communicate out loud.
