Sample remains colourless when Phenolphthalein is added in acidic water sample

mam can you tell me why we multiply it by 50
Because here we are calculating acidity, alkalinity (quality parameters) in equivalent to CaCO3. So multiply with 50(equivalent wt. Of CaCO3.)
