I just found it hilarious that Chrysalis's spell backfired on her, and that the Mane 6 were never aware of the Mean 6. A hilariously ironic episode. XD Yet, I could see the possibility of the "corrupted" elements of harmony coming into play later in the series/season.
2 people in the comments have said chryssy is going a little crazy glad other people noticed it too . Hope the show staff take advantage of this opportunity to write an episode where shes completely defeated by the mane 6 and forced to reform . i was wondering if at the end of that episode they could get away with chryssy in a french maid uniform cleaning the mane 6 castle or serving the mane 6.
I like the fact that the mane six never worked out what was going on. Sure, if they do talk it out properly they're going to realise that something freaky was definitely going on and might come to the conclusion that a changling might be involved, but not in the way they think, but also it's the Everfree and that place is just filled with all kinds of weird stuff. Chrysalis's plan was always doomed to failure, even if the clone Twilight hadn't turned on her and the tree hadn't killed them horribly. The mane six can only use them because they embody the qualities of the elements and the mean six really, REALLY didn't, but even if they had been able to? The mean six were barely under her control when they didn't have access to Equestria's greatest magical super weapon. Why would they pay even the slightest attention to her once they had that kind of power? Also, anyone else getting the impression that the clone Twilight could have easily taken over Equestria if, y'know, she hadn't had the life drained out of her by a magical crystal tree?
"Also, anyone else getting the impression that the clone Twilight could have easily taken over Equestria if, y'know, she hadn't had the life drained out of her by a magical crystal tree?" Kinda like the MLP comics where the main 6 turn evil after bathing in water with dark magic. Twilight was an evil mastermind in that comic as well. She even realized when the good guys were trying to turn her back to good and circumvented their plan to do so.
I thought that when I saw the episode I’m like they are nothing like the mane 6 they cause trouble destroy things and get into physical fights with each makes me think about a mean student six
I saw someone compare Chrysalis's behavior to Azula from Avatar the last airbender. She's lost control of what she had and is slowly losing her mind as her world was flipped upside down, making her more unstable and unpredictable.
to be hoenst though she was never really competent to begin with XD each plan either had a fatal flaw or, if outside of her own power, was doomed to falure. She is bolda nd cunning but short sighted and impatient.
shippouma121 not really. They're both rulers/future rulers who believed that they belonged at the top, were betrayed by those they considered to be trustworthy to them and then lost their formal methods of power. They're not the most similar in behavior perhaps but the situation is pretty close.
I'd agree with you, Mister, uh, Dad, but the only reason those flaws exist, ironically, is *because* her plans were so perfectly executed. Both times Chrysalis was defeated, it was because the writers wrote themselves into a corner and had the most powerful of characters stumped and defeated. Shining Armor and Cadence? The "power of love." Thorax? Once again, the power of love. They lift into the air, and with little to no explanation, MAGIC happens. Magic that suddenly exists and is capable of working when the writers need it. Chrysalis, as she's proven up until this recent episode, is *dangerously* competent.
Nat Ritchie close in situation I’ll give you but as a villain chrysalis is less and less a threat as the show goes on while Azula was a threat till the end of the series.
I like how the Mean Twilight called Chrysalis out when she could’ve gotten revenge on the Mane Six while she was close enough to take photos, but did nothing
She's a queen bee, no pun intended sorry. She can't handle being alone. In short she's losing it bit by bit, she's going insane. And I think she's more intresting as an insane dethroned queen then the villan we firs t saw.
I think the reason Chrysalis was so ineffective in this episode might be because her defeat hit her harder than the audience thought. It could be that this somewhat silly and completely ineffective plan was a result of a somewhat broken mind. She was just too blinded by revenge to see that her plan was, well, too crazy to actually work. It also could be that without the resources and muscle of her hive she just isn't as dangerous as a villain anymore, since most of her plans had her minions doing the heavy lifting.
Rainbow Gale I did and I had a lot of fun watching this episode because of the relationship between Queen Cheese Legs and Screwball in my fic It's a Screwed Up Life and imagining Screwy laughing and mocking Cheese Legs throughout the episode, trolling her about how her plan was doomed from the start but not telling her why, just that Cheese Legs was blind not to see it
I want an episode where Chrysalis realises she’s kind of gone crazy and disguises herself as a pony to sign up for counselling sessions but then realises that the only counsellor in Ponyville is Starlight and they just have really awkward counselling sessions where Chrysalis tries to talk about her feelings without revealing her true self.
Maybe a episode could show Chrysalis try a variation of this idea to get one-on-one time with Starlight and to see if she can find out her weaknesses to use against her, similar to what Starlight did with Twilight by spying on her. Other than that, that's fanfic-level stuff there...which I wouldn't mind seeing myself!
Despite how terrifying and depraved she is, I always saw Chrysalis as one of the least adept big villains in the series. She felt like she was new to the whole mastermind thing, especially when compared to the much older and experienced evils like Sombra, Tirek, Discord, and even Nightmare Moon. From what we have seen Chrysalis' main strengths are her deception and trickery, it seems like now she is getting out of her comfort zone. Not to mention the fact that losing her position as queen has hurt her mentally, she definitely seems like she is going off the deep end. I think designating her to an almost fully comedic episode was fitting, I am curious too see what the writers do with her next. Especially with the ramifications of the Elements there.
For the record, I consider this episode to be a Chrysalis //Victory//, not a defeat. Consider: she entered the forest looking for the Elements of Harmony to use them with surrogates. While her plan was unsuccessful, she //did// a) learn the location of the Elements of Harmony, b) learn about the existence of the Tree of Harmony, and c) Escape undetected, with the Mane 6 and Starlight unaware she was ever there. While she didn’t achieve a decisive victory, she was successful in acquiring very useful intelligence undetected...
A good thought (and something to keep in mind), but I suspect extreme loneliness and isolation are the more likely culprits. If there was an ephemeral presence speaking to Chrysalis, I suspect it would have simply disappeared after Chrysalis made her clones - it would have continued to communicate with her. In that case, she would have been interrupting her own conversations with the ‘Mean 6’ to speak with open air. Also, Chrysalis definitely seems to be directing her conversation to the photographs she took (she ‘talks’ to Applejack and Rarity by name), not to some invisible presence. Again, this is something that is associated with extreme loneliness and isolation, not an otherworldly presence (think on how Tom Hanks addresses Wilson in ‘Castaway’).
Dracomut Chrysalis is just angry now. She's just mad. She just wants to win and she's desperate, alone and very stubborn. She's basically Sunset Shimmer before the first Equestria Girls movie reformed her. Chryssi will return and hopefully get her emotional baggage sorted out. She'd be a great addition to the school of friendship. #student7
I wouldn't say Chrysalis is a "gag" villain in this episode, nor would I say she's not a threat anymore. I think she's just at a serious disadvantage and hasn't reached the breakthrough she needs yet.
Exactly to be honest we needed to see her like this with her next appearance, because it established how unhinged and insane she's become. She's honestly more scary now than she was before. Who knows what she'll do out of desperation.
Really don't care for the "Chrysalis is inept" comments. Yh, she failed at trying to control 1000 yr artifacts that literally NO ONE KNOWS HOW THEY WORK! Not the creators, not the bearers, no one. Why would she expect this plan to fail?
Yeah. If this weren’t a kids show, I would be scared for Starlight. Because she may be planning and scheming now, but at any moment she could realize her plans won’t work and just...snap. She would go ballistic. Heading straight for Starlight, and taking out anypony in her path.
This has to be a connection to the season finale. It might not be Chrssy we see in the end, but something about what the tree did.. Something is brewing. I felt this episode was made to be a bridge, leading to whats going to happen in the future. Dr.Wolf I think this episode has HIGH STAKES. Just not right now.
The commercials made it look like the Mane 6 and Mean 6 were going to get into a fight. I Would've loved to see something similar to The Powerpuff Girls fight The Rowdyruff Boys
+Kane Aquino Yeah, and I can see why they couldn't go that route... It's My Little Pony after all, and there is a status quo that must be maintained... Despite the war in Canterlot during the Season 2 finale, Twilight vs. Tirek in Season 4, Starlight creating multiple war torn time lines in Season 5, Starlight, Discord, Trixie, and Thorax warring against and reforming the Changeling Hive in season 6, and Star Swirled banding together with heroes of old pony tales to defeat a corrupted student of Star Swirl's... A status quo must be maintained...
Yeah, but they were around the Mane 6's necks in Return of Harmony, not on the Tree of Harmony. Also, these are evil doppelgangers with no chance of being good, while the Mane 6 was corrupted by their antithesis.
But all we have at the moment are theories, even Mista Wolf here admits it. Maybe the Elements were corrupted, we don't know. I dunno, but I'd guess the writers wouldn't do something so significant mid-season, even if it's a special 13th episode.
maybe the clones will come back. The elements going dark for a second, the tree reaching out, *the colored pieces of wood left remaining* maybe the clones actually absorbed the elements, or at least a fragment of them, and might be resurrected as a legitimate threat later on in the series.
Now that Chrysalis knows where the tree and the elements are located chances are she'll probably think of another way to steal them in the season 8 finale.
That is over, now all we have left is the season 9 finale. I think Chrissy is going to be part of it, but at the same time I don't know how they can make this also be the finale for the entirety of the show. Just sad the the show that made me so nostalgic is ending. The episode that made me most nostalgic makes me want to cry because all this nostalgia is gone. One more season than goodbye friendship is magic! Hello new series that I really don't think will b as good. I am dreading the end of FIM and I will watch a canter lot wedding when I am 100. I will watch it when gen 5 is out. When, my favorite episode of my favorite show is forgotten and lost, I will watch it. I don't know how to last one week without MLP FIM theories and ideas but a canterlot wedding started this. After watching MLP FIM for so long and stopping around 7 I thought I have outgrown it. Now I'm ten I decided to watch a canterlot wedding just for the nostalgia and realized, I should watch this show. I streamed through seasons 1-7 and found a sketchy website to stream season 8 and now I'm anxiously awaiting season 8 on Netflix and the premier of season 9. At the same time I don't want season 9 to start, it starting will mean I will end. It will mean MLP FIM will end. I am sad to see my favorite show and my favorite episode go. I am also dreading the end. I am pretty pumped for a new show. I am happy hasbro is planning on using the same characters while only changing a few. But in the entirety of this comment, of this show, of the whole franchise, I am not ready to let go of FIM and I am happy that it is not the end end. And I'm sorry for this long comment, I'm just really dreading the end of my childhood show and life. All it did was mostly watch this show till I was seven and belived I grew out of it, I am happy that I rediscovered it but sad to see it go.
Another thing is that evil Twilight could have been an amazing villain in my opinion. The wasted potential dissapointed me a little. She was the smartest and most powerfull out of all of them and seeing her in a combat with our Twi would have been more than awesome.
Or perhaps on King Sombra? I mean, if the changelings defended the Crystal Empire in return for the love generated by its people, that'd be a badass teamup. Maybe it could explain why the Empire is CALLED an empire, when it's literally a tiny kingdom.
I thought that the Elements of Harmony just rejected the mean six and they won't work for the main six in a big battle at the end of the season. They are no longer connected to the elements. And that's why the school six are there. To replace the main six of their job as the new holder's of the Elements of Harmony. That's just my thought.
I don’t think rejecting copies that had nothing to do with reprecenting the elements means the Mane 6 are going to be rejected. And we have not had the school 6 really associated with an element of their own, it’s possible but there is not much so far.
I personally think that the tree of harmony knew that they weren't the real mane six and decided to get rid of them so they were no longer a threat. We have seen the tree of harmony defend itself and some of the other characters even the students plenty of times before. So we know by now that the tree itself is alive. So it would make the most sense. By the way, as a 22-year-old fan of the show myself I love your videos. At first, I wasn't sure what to think of an adult man doing reviews on this show. But the more I watched the more I loved your channel. It's very nice to see an adults perspective on the show since as an adult we are more likely to understand some of the little details and plotlines in each episode. Plus I like knowing that I'm not the only adult who loves this show. Seeing the comments from other adult fans and actually seeing and hearing an adult fan talk about the show are completely different. Since with a comment, it could just be a 12-year-old posing as an adult but with the video, you can actually see you and hear your very obvious grown voice. Not saying that everyone in the comments is not really an adult but actually seeing and hearing you talk about it rather than just comment makes it easier to relate to you. I hope that comment wasn't to difficult to understand. I tried my best to explain everything and make it easy to understand. Again my comment isn't to offend anyone this is just what I think.
I think Chrissy’s breakdown is a combination of 1: her strength comes from her hive. She is pretty good at field work herself, but her main advantage has always been having many followers so you don’t know who is on your side. Without her followers, she is weaker. 2: again, she has no one around her anymore. When there is no one to talk to, you start to talk to yourself. She is just starting to lose her mind over being alone, and her anger at the mane six/Starlight. 3: the mean six were impossible. I’m having a hard time thinking of a villain who could be able to handle them. When they refuse to listen, but you need them all alive and ready to fight, there is really very little that can be done. Also normal Twi is smart, and I guess evil Twi is just as smart, but in a crafty, scheming kind of way. It’d be hard to get past her
The following is a long post, and I want to apologize is advance for this text wall. I just wish to state that, at this point, I find it extremely likely that Cozy Glow is Chrysalis in disguise, and the events of this episode are consistent that this idea. Let me explain my reasoning... My reasons for suspecting that Cozy Glow is Chrysalis is disguise can be broken down to three points: that it makes a great deal of sense for Chrysalis to infiltrate the School of Friendship (for multiple reasons), that Chrysalis’s actions in “The Mean Six” correlate with the CMC’s lessons for Cozy Glow in “Mark’s For Effort,” and that Cozy Glow’s actions and types of mistakes she made were inconsistent with being a young child or filly, but were far more consistent with being the deposed Changeling Queen we saw in today’s episode. First, it’s fairly easy to see how the School of Friendship would be a prime target for a master infiltrator like Chrysalis. The school takes in strangers from all over Equestria and beyond, different realms and cultures. Chrysalis would find it relatively easy to manufacture an identity of a young filly from across Equestria wanting to attend the school, and any odd behavior she exhibited would be easily dismissed. From this cover, she could observe the activities of the Mane 6 and Starlight, looking for openings where she could reclaim some of her former power and influence, and get her revenge. And, perhaps most importantly, the school itself and it’s nearby town is a rich food source for Chrysalis - a school of friendship, after all, is a school that teaches others how to open themselves up to love. Second, I don’t believe it was an accident that Chrysalis went searching for the Elements of Harmony immediately after the events of “Marks for Effort.” If you look closely during the ‘lesson montage’ during “Marks for Effort,” when the CMCs were helping Cozy Glow with her upcoming test, you will notice that they use a variety of props to help with their lessons. The flash cards they use are simply the representation of the Cutie Marks on the Mane Six’s flanks, but the posters they use contain the gemmed representations of the Elements of Harmony. It’s *very* likely that Cozy Glow and the CMCs had multiple conversations about the physical manifestations of the Elements, how they work, and what they can do, and it’s likely that Cozy Glow learned from them that they were somewhere in the Everfree Forest. This information is likely not made widely known (outside of the Mane 6, the princesses, and perhaps closest family members) and the CMCs are probably one of the few groups of fillies that could (without thinking) compromise that information. Finally, it’s not just Cozy Glow’s actions in “Marks for Effort” that are consistent with her being Chrysalis, but it’s the mistakes she makes as well. Considering some of the Changeling dialog back in “Celestial Advise,” it makes perfect sense that Chrysalis would have issues with her friendship homework. Likewise, manipulating the CMCs to help her is also completely in character for her (if she performed too poorly in her classes for too long, the Mane 6 might try to contact her family for more information, and that could both blow her cover and make future infiltration attempts more difficult). Ultimately though, it was Cozy Glows’ mistakes that stood out the most... In this case, I’m referring to Cozy Glow’s botched attempts at linking a specific Element with its respective Cutie Mark and gem. A child’s or filly’s mistake would be inherently different from the mistakes Cozy Glow made. A filly would either mix up the Cutie Mark representations (for example: mixing up Apple Jacks and Rainbow Dash’s Cutie Marks, calling Apple Jack’s Cutie Mark “Loyalty” instead of “Honesty”) or using a synonym or similar term (i.e. calling Fluttershy’s Cutie Mark “Compassion” or “Being Nice” instead of “Kindness”). But these aren’t the kind of mistakes Cozy Glow makes. Cozy Glow initially calls Twilight Sparkle’s Cutie Mark “Control.” It doesn’t make much sense for a filly to make this error (even one not paying attention in class), but it is completely in line with Chrysalis’s mentality (especially if she wasn’t paying attention to the lesson). From Chrysalis’s point of view, Twilight Sparkle is the leader, and being able to control one’s subjects is a virtue in that regard. Likewise, Chrysalis could look at how Rarity is able to use her charm and sophistication to get others ponies to do what she wants, and see her Cutie Mark representing “Intelligence” (the other mistake she made) and not generosity. I’d go on with how I believe Chrysalis got to this point and what I think her plans are from here, but I’ve already subjected everyone to enough of a text wall (sorry about that). I’m kind of curious what everyone else’s thoughts are, though...
That magic is a spell to create wood golems thats how she make the coppy and yeah is preedy dark magic like the ritual to make a clay golem but with wood
Perhaps by the finale they'll notice something odd happening to the everfree forest since the Elements that protect it possibly have been negatively impacted in some way. Maybe even bring in at least Starswirl since he helped plant the tree in the first place.
I really enjoyed this episode. I do wish that evil Twilight had stayed at least. I'd love to see Twilight have to face off against an evil version of herself.
Twilight vs Anti-Twilight face-off does sound good. Though I think it'll be even better if that version of Twilight went up against Starlight. Not only would it be a Season 5 finale role reversal, but it'll answer a question of how Starlight would do if she went up against a Twilight that's truly going all-out, trying to take her out, unlike like Twilight was mainly just trying to "stop" her in the S5 finale.
Well, that proves my theory the tree is somewhat setient, or has some form of knowing who is using the elements. Also, I think this might have been meant to be a comedy take on the discordant harmony, meant to be a funny episode.
You know one thing? I have read some research that animals identify others using scent. Chrysalis used their hair, making a very convincing copies of the mane 6 (including their scent), so I guess that's why the mane 6 (even Starlight) couldn't distinguish the mean one from the mane one. Last time, they could distinguish changelings is because changelings could copy visually but not the scent, which if the mane 6 can distinguish the fake one and the real one. Twilight didn't just sense a strange behaviour of Cadance, but she could sense her scent was different, so she knew immediately that she was a fake. As for the Princess Celestia... I'm not sure if that really is a setup for Twilight to succeed, because she should be able to sense the dangers from miles away. Of course this is may be one of the reason why the mane 6 couldn't tell the difference of the mean 6. In animal theory, this might be the case and a possibility.
I found myself viewing this as a more boring version of Discord’s premiere. Considering we as third person omniscient knowing when a Mean Six Member was with a Mane Six Member. I’m sorry, but it felt less exciting. I guess seeing this episode get leaked months ago, prior to me watching a certain series the way you watched this episode. I probably should give it another chance with this in mind. Also, even though this was leaked, Spike wasn’t seen in this episode so it didn’t spoil him getting wings two episodes earlier.
Ross Pit: Shark Hunter yeah. And it probably is. I admit after watching a certain show, I realized I would have more fun viewing this episode in that same manner. The episode isn’t bad at all, just... I wasn’t watching it in the right mindset.
It would have been better if the Mean Six, besides Mean Twilight, weren't imbeciles. They could have just given crazy Chrysalis the proverbial finger, and become villains in their own right. Or, they could have used simple trickery to ruin the reputations and friendships of the Mane Six.
Actually, she accomplished something. Before, she didn't know that the Elements were housed in the Tree of Harmony. Now (1) she knows that the Tree exists; (2) she knows that the Elements are inside it; and (3) she knows where it is. That's a pretty big discovery. And I wouldn't put it past this show to conceal the setup for a dramatic punch in a supposedly just-for-laughs episode.
Doc. That death scene was nothing. In the original episode, Mean Twilight's death was much more graphic with much more face melting. Guess they reedited it to less disturbing scene because of they didn't want to completely scar the younger viewers.
I think Chrysalis has lost her mind by this point. Not only is she ranting to herself about her evil plans out loud, but I don't think she understood how the Elements worked. Her plan was pretty much doomed to fail from the start, but because she's so far gone mentally, she doesn't realize it. Honestly, I still feel pretty mixed. I can see how much fun the voice actors had on this episode and to it's credit, the Mean 6 themselves were pretty awesome. At the same time, despite me liking the pros of this episode, I feel like more could've been done with this premise. I hope the writers are setting up for something good down the line, but I can only wait and see at this point.
This episode was pretty wild, but in the end, very little happened. The clones were made, caused a bit of a ruckus and were destroyed in less than 12 hours. But hey, Chryssy's still alive, slowly falling into insanity and still brewing evil plans. Like a good ol' villain. The mean version of Rarity made some sweet faces though.
I don't know if you know but there was a comic featuring the opposite mane 6. However, they never show physically, just on the cover. The Mean 6 shares similarity to Discorded Mane 6 and Twilight Sparkles didn't even notice the grey coloring. Man, ponies are blinds! It's like the PowerPunk Girls from PPG, also on comic. Chrysalis performs alchemy! The Mane 6 could have been the new villains.
I personally think this is a perfect episode! Simple reason. Chrysalis NEEDED this in order to become a truly great villain. She used to lead a hive of hundreds, possibly thousands, and they followed her unquestioningly. So! It makes perfect sense that her first major plan would involve obtaining new minions. This will teach her that her old methods simply won't work, she doesn't have the power, she doesn't have the resources. This will push her towards going the route of all the other major villains thus far. Towards seeking personal individual internal power rather than new external power. Luna, dark power of the moon. Discord, power of chaos. Sombra, power of negative emotions. Tirek, raw destructive power of magic. Stygian, power of darkness. Even The Storm King while having plenty of minions was seeking personal power above all else. Chrysalis was the only villain who directly relied on others as a major source of her power. She needed an episode devoted to drilling home the fact she will never have that kind of power again, in order for her to try something even more desperate in a bid for personal power. :D
Even if this episode doesn't have any consequences (which isn't certain, like you said), I don't think it was a waste of time. It did establish that Chrysalis is descending into madness and desperation, maybe even starting to subconsciously question herself after Mean Twilight's teasing about her needing "friends".
I gotta disagree Doc. Not only do I think this is one of the best Episodes so far. I think this is the Best Episode this Season, so far. I think it was the perfect setup and payoff. Also the lessen about forgiving your Friends for some simple petty misunderstanding (even if they they were holy unresponsible.) is a great lesson. If I had to give one gripe, it would have to be the fact that Evil-Twilight didn't get to stick around. I think, for how little time she was around, she was the best and most competent villain we've ever had.
I wonder whether Evil Twilight was that much stronger than Chrysalis or is her magic just severely weakened since she no longer has access to unlimited love energy to feed on.
I think i know why the stuff want to down the mane 7's characters. Because the season 9 is Suppose to be the last season for G4. So they gotta lower the character like saving strength then give it all in one shot in season 9. That is what i believe.😊
...... I ...oh no.... the world is doomed... what if she makes hundreds if these. The get drained until the elements are distroyed...OH MAN THAT'S WHY THEY GOT BROKEN SO EASLY BY SOMBRA IN THE SEASON NINE BEGIN I NG!!!!
I feel like this episode was to foreshadow and tease that something big is coming. I mean, in all of the other seasons, they have had small bits of foreshadowing (barely any), but never have they devoted an entire episode to foreshadowing. I think it is an interesting idea that the mean 6 may have changed the elements. I could definitely see that happening, but then again, you always have an idea of what could happen, but it usually turns into something completely different. I do look forward to seeing how Starlight will handle the situation, they could do so much with the idea of Chrysalis seeking revenge on Starlight.
I'm gonna make a video on some thoughts and theories I had. Including the Elements. And something else, because there was one more TINY thing I noticed that could later have a payoff. Maybe. ;)
I’m sort of in the middle weather this episode was good or terrible. I mean like you said I had a total déjà vu with the discord episode and that they just did the same thing. But I am rather intrigued seeing that the mean six are not just in countering twilight but with the rest of the main six. But as for tree of harmony realizing that they were imposters, there was only one solution. The tree probably found out that mean six was created with dark magic, so it must’ve purify the mean six and turned them into colored timber. What does it mean, I have no clue except they might return since the lumber has the main six colors
When the story board of this episode got leaked last year and the title was confirmed as "The Mean Six" I was worried we were going to see a story where the Mean Six replaced the Main Six and ruined their reputations in Ponyville. I've seen that kind of story involving evil doppelgangers and I hate it. While there was a little of that here, it wasn't as bad. Also I love seeing an Evil Twilight since we didn't really get a good look at Discorded Twi's personality besides being depressed.I do hope that the Elements have been corrupted because of this, otherwise it feels like this episode has no pay off.
i agree for if its on purpose and the main vilian of the season this set's up a senerio that i will call right now. when they go to use the elements on the real main villain they lose the elements themselves. Starlight having to figure what happened since she's not a barer she hast to find the one pony knows what happened and since she faces the choice of total destruction where no one wins and she doesn't get her vengence, but ends up having to help star light since the main six will end up either part of the tree due to these actions or completely drained by it. this will either redeem cryssy or end up just being a mutual fix to a problem to both and since we have a new main six they get the elements, since the original aren't worthy by the trees standers.
Yes this was the Return of Harmony but Chrysalis NEVER interact with Starlight especially! and The mane 6 never saw the mean applejacks green cutie mark and hair ties!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I would have preferred if Evil Twilight had lived, she seemed like a fun villain, we've seen Chrysalis already, I'd be more interested in seeing Twilight deal with an opponent not only just as strong as her, but just as smart, too.
Watching that first scene, i easily picked up on the fact that Chrysalis was talking to the photos and she thought they were talking back. I think that was a hint that she's loosing her marbles a bit, though only slightly. I hope that next time we see her, as not only did she swear revenge again but she's flying away in that background before the credits, well see this aspect of her character on a more extreme level.
I still hope Chrysalis joins up with Tyric or something. Have the villians learn that working together (as neutral allies), they can defeat Twilight and her friends (i have a fan fic of it).
This episode was super intense and interesting. I love the fact that they brought back the discorded main six and we got to see what evil Twilight acted like. However, it would have been cool if the Mean Six had gotten possession of the elements of (dis)harmony, perhaps forcing Crysalis to team up with the ponies and Throax maybe to defeat them. I imagine the main six battling the mean six while Starlight and Thorax battle Crysalis over the Badlands. Overall, it was good, but it could have been better if the writers had more time.
I hope they bring back the Mean 6 later on at some point. The Fact that they left those coloured pieces of wood there make me think they may be brought back next time the Mane 6 go to the tree.
I see a third possibility in the ending: What if the Tree of Harmony thought the Mean 6 were their counterparts? Each black flash indicating that it was disconnecting each pony from their respective Element, and, upon deeming that they were "now" a force too dark to exist in the interest of the safety of Equestria, it ended them. If something like this were the case, would that mean that the next time the real Mane 6 try to use the Elements, they would be denied being able to wield them? In this light, this be setup for new Element bearers, or maybe Chrysalis's reformation, like what was brought up in the companion video. It's interesting with all the different interpretations of the ending, and it all adds to the anticipation of where this all leads!
It was a good one, but I agree, it felt like a build up to....nada. And it's bizarre the main 6 didn't even suspect something fishy going on once they got together and compared notes. I actually expected this to be a climax to a two parter. Hmm...maybe this actually was originally going to be one and changed their minds!! Loved the Incredibles reference too lol
What I love on the episode is that the inner magic of the ponies seems to modify the environnement. At start the Everfree forest is bright for the Mane 6 because they are friendly but it becomes darker when they began to argue. The same way Fluttershy's home can become dark and dying when she shut herself up in the first episode with Ironwill. I would Say, continuity in World unilingue !
You know what would be fun on your channel? This just occurred to me a few minutes ago and I had to post this: "Chrysalis's therapy visit to Dr. Wolf". God know's she needs one. She's lost her hive, her changelings, pretty much everything. And there's a LOT of potential comedy that can be had!
I think the whole point of the episode was about how the main six were able to forgive each other without finding out about the copies. Its not all about world building and fanfic fuel, its about friendship. Its literally in the name of the show. The problem with bronies is that they prefer episode with zero effort and lots of world building over a good story.
Or the fading to black could mean, that the Elements of Harmony had detached themselves from the M6 and so they were rendered useless in the future. Maybe there will be new element beares in the near future.
I think Crisalis (I know I misspelled it) acting irrationally is logical considering what has happened. When we saw her last season it was a long time since the wedding incident. She took her time, gathered her resources, and made a master plan. Starlight essentially took her kingdom away, and ruined her plan. Crisalis lost her resources, and now not only is she trying to rebuild her kingdom, she is trying to get revenge. Her plans are not as well thought out anymore because she is having to change her whole mind set.
When you mentioned the tree and how they were used for making the copies of the main six it reminded me of how nightmare moon used magic on the trees so do the trees hold some bit of magic
is it me or did Chtysalis did what Discord did in Season 2 where she'd made copies of the main six and making act the complete opposite of who they represent and to steal the elements of harmony
I kinda had an idea floating around, The only viable villains we have remaining are Chrysalis, Tirek, and the possible King Sombra (Seeing as they are far from redemption) Now, im hoping that Chrysalis might seek out some help from Tirek or find a way to speak or even bring back Sombra. (I loved the idea when The Lion Guard brought back the spirit of Scar) Maybe be creative to make a real threat by removing the plot de-i mean Elements of Harmony, maybe have the pillars fight along side, maybe allies of Equestria, the possibilities are quite out there. Still, I really want Sombra to make some return (not just call-outs like in "The Crystalling") But a real threat to the mane 6. What do you guys think?
Thing I took from this is that now Crysalis is up to date on the status of the Elements of Harmony and she knows where the tree is. This raises the stakes considerably since we've seen she has very powerful magic at her disposal and might seek to corrupt the tree or do some other shenanigans with it.
Back when I saw the animatic for season 8 using the camera scene, I had high hopes for this season, and aside from a few episodes my general opinion is that was cute/fun. This episode was in my opinion rather "meh". Ideas that could possibly had more impact, the mean 6 meet the CMC, or something like that, although I will give credit where it's due with the confusion bit, predictable, but better than a straight out confrontation, although now that I think of it that too could possibly been implemented towards the end, twilight running into herself, the possibilities for mental/emotional turmoil would be quite interesting, plus their powers being equal would make for a good battle of the minds and real Twilight would end up having to outsmart her doppelganger otherwise risking a stalemate. Those are my thoughts.
This was definitely my favorite episode of Season 8 besides the finale mostly because as a guilty pleasure I love to see Queen Chrysalis break down and go completely insane due to her isolation after losing everything! She's suffering the same dark fate as Fluttershy's brother but even worse in this scenario ; as she perfectly deserves😈!
I thought this episode was going to be Chrysallys' revenge and that would be horribly disappointing, but I'm glad that this whole episode was one huge set-up, and for a set-up it did very well.
Its interesting that the tree seemed to sense that it and by extension Equestria was in danger and proceeded to not just stop but straight up kill the mean six.
I just found it hilarious that Chrysalis's spell backfired on her, and that the Mane 6 were never aware of the Mean 6. A hilariously ironic episode. XD
Yet, I could see the possibility of the "corrupted" elements of harmony coming into play later in the series/season.
it made me understand on the one hand that Chrysalis is going........ a bit crazy :T
Angie Mena she's so lonely :(
She's been entirely alone for a LONG time, so I guess it makes sense.
siramay the showgun dragon network never leave a changling alone. They might explode.
2 people in the comments have said chryssy is going a little crazy glad other people noticed it too . Hope the show staff take advantage of this opportunity to write an episode where shes completely defeated by the mane 6 and forced to reform . i was wondering if at the end of that episode they could get away with chryssy in a french maid uniform cleaning the mane 6 castle or serving the mane 6.
thomasabramson100 that sounds a bit to far
Yea twilight could've been a potential villain. It would've been fun seeing her take over
"Also, anyone else getting the impression that the clone Twilight could have easily taken over Equestria if, y'know, she hadn't had the life drained out of her by a magical crystal tree?"
Kinda like the MLP comics where the main 6 turn evil after bathing in water with dark magic. Twilight was an evil mastermind in that comic as well. She even realized when the good guys were trying to turn her back to good and circumvented their plan to do so.
That was a really good arc.
I thought that when I saw the episode I’m like they are nothing like the mane 6 they cause trouble destroy things and get into physical fights with each makes me think about a mean student six
I saw someone compare Chrysalis's behavior to Azula from Avatar the last airbender. She's lost control of what she had and is slowly losing her mind as her world was flipped upside down, making her more unstable and unpredictable.
to be hoenst though she was never really competent to begin with XD
each plan either had a fatal flaw or, if outside of her own power, was doomed to falure. She is bolda nd cunning but short sighted and impatient.
Nat Ritchie comparing chrysalis to Azusa after this ep is a stretch.
shippouma121 not really.
Karma Kitsune
Well, seeing that a mere clone of Twilight was able to overpower her , I think that Chrysalis was justified for not attacking right away
Karma Kitsune wait if she was close to the Mane Six why the hell didn't she go after starlight.
She's a queen bee, no pun intended sorry. She can't handle being alone. In short she's losing it bit by bit, she's going insane. And I think she's more intresting as an insane dethroned queen then the villan we firs t saw.
@@ndogmario
It would've been better if this episode had been similar to The Rowdyruff Boys.
At the end, the way the mean 6 died, I found myself saying: I'M MELTING!!
a la Judge Doom, or the Wicked Witch of the West?
Light Lati wicked witch
The Death Of the mean 6 was darker than Africa.
Ever since chrysalis was defeated twice she’s gotten pretty crazy 🤪
Fletcher Gilmore well she got close to conquer everything but got destroyed easily
It was the Power of Love.
It's like playing Fortnite!
Anyone else see this plan failing miserably from the moment you first heard the clones speak?
I knew it.
Me cause I realized that they were discorded so even if the mean 6 did get there they wouldn't work
Moonspark EXACTLY!
Rainbow Gale I did and I had a lot of fun watching this episode because of the relationship between Queen Cheese Legs and Screwball in my fic It's a Screwed Up Life and imagining Screwy laughing and mocking Cheese Legs throughout the episode, trolling her about how her plan was doomed from the start but not telling her why, just that Cheese Legs was blind not to see it
As soon as Chrysalis stuck the hair onto the trees*
I want an episode where Chrysalis realises she’s kind of gone crazy and disguises herself as a pony to sign up for counselling sessions but then realises that the only counsellor in Ponyville is Starlight and they just have really awkward counselling sessions where Chrysalis tries to talk about her feelings without revealing her true self.
CartoonishIdealism I need a fanfic, fan animation, or comic of this from someone ASAP 😂
That sounds good
This needs to happen O.o
Maybe a episode could show Chrysalis try a variation of this idea to get one-on-one time with Starlight and to see if she can find out her weaknesses to use against her, similar to what Starlight did with Twilight by spying on her.
Other than that, that's fanfic-level stuff there...which I wouldn't mind seeing myself!
GET ME THE WRITERS!!!!!!!! WE NEED THIS! !!!!!!!!!!
I Am Number Six a very successful unprompted espionage.
This is just a thought, but what if Chrysalis isn't talking to some imaginary friend she made up, but instead a being that can only be seen by her.
+Kane Aquino
Yeah, and I can see why they couldn't go that route...
This episode was hilarious
The audience reaction of all of this...
*OOHH COMEON!*
1:18- Oh my God! You just referenced the Incredibles! XD
I liked it too doc
i don't think he really like it
MrConredsX oh i respect
It was the elements/Rainbow power that banished Tirek back to Tartarus. now that their Corrupted. THAT BOND IS BROKEN. I just now realized this!
Ok, so this episode will connect to the finale. Chrysalis's plan is most likely going to have dire consequences in the long run.
I dunno. The Elements did no such thing in 'Return of Harmony' when the Mane6 were Discorded.
MLPDethDealr32 get this, in the leak there was something about Tirek returning. That could be why!
maybe the clones will come back. The elements going dark for a second, the tree reaching out, *the colored pieces of wood left remaining*
maybe the clones actually absorbed the elements, or at least a fragment of them, and might be resurrected as a legitimate threat later on in the series.
She was the smartest and most powerfull out of all of them and seeing her in a combat with our Twi would have been more than awesome.
a missed orotunity Twilight vs. Evil Twilight that would have been an epic showdown if they actually did it
Chrysalis has a secret crush on Rainbow Dash. Evidence: the photos. She took a photo of Rainbow Dash's flank.
Or perhaps on King Sombra? I mean, if the changelings defended the Crystal Empire in return for the love generated by its people, that'd be a badass teamup. Maybe it could explain why the Empire is CALLED an empire, when it's literally a tiny kingdom.
N Hansen //Oh god NO, no no no that ship will never gonna happen
It's in the episode, profile pick, profile pick, profile pic, Dash's flank... LOL
One question remains, who's gonna be the main villain in the season finale, Chancellor Neighsay or Queen Chrysalis?
Sonic Gamer someone else, 2 therioes if you want to be know who can be the villians
Sonic Gamer my friend i may not know for the time it is to tell though...
A T No thanks
Both they team up lol
Curtis bassett I heard there are going to be 2 villains, I know only, one of the villiams showing up definitely, but don't know the second
Kinda wanted to see how Twilight and the rest of them would've felt face to face with Chrysalis' return but this was still a fun episde all the same
I thought that the Elements of Harmony just rejected the mean six and they won't work for the main six in a big battle at the end of the season. They are no longer connected to the elements. And that's why the school six are there. To replace the main six of their job as the new holder's of the Elements of Harmony. That's just my thought.
ZanyCartoons I hope not, the student 6 don't deserve that.
I've taken a break from mlp for a while now so....
Why are there so many sixes??????
I've taken a break from mlp for a while now so....
Why are there so many sixes??????
Dalvyn The Drunk What other reason is there for them to be there?
I don’t think rejecting copies that had nothing to do with reprecenting the elements means the Mane 6 are going to be rejected. And we have not had the school 6 really associated with an element of their own, it’s possible but there is not much so far.
I feel like the writers considered that Chrysalis was too used to having thralls to do her bidding
I think Chrissy’s breakdown is a combination of
1: her strength comes from her hive.
They'd probably have a tie, since it's basically herself, but just another personality.
Yea that would be interesting
And I wouldn't know who would win since their both talented at it
I really enjoyed dark T-Sparks. She was the only one to really have any ideas of what she wanted.
Another reason might be the fact the color changes were visuals only for the audience and they looked actually identical for each other.
always Dr. Wolf with the insight. 😊🐺
RedDragonForce2 TO BE FAIR.
its really hard to top Discord.
TooHententacleForYou not a lie!
yea but one distinct difference between the discorded six and the mean six was mean twilight
RedDragonForce2 I thought this was far more fun than Discord's episode.
The Mean 6’s death scene reminded me of bit of that scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark if it was much shorter.
Well Chrysalis knows where the tree is now, and apparently there's another past gen villain coming back soon. So maybe they'll do something with that.
Great plan on paper, but sometimes plans just completely fall apart. Chrystalis learned that lesson today.
theres also that quote at the end by twilight that "nothing will tear them apart"
Personally, I love the fact that Chryssi went through all that trouble and accomplished absolutely nothing. It reminds me of 'Vendetta' from Gargoyles
Guess they reedited it to less disturbing scene because of they didn't want to completely scar the younger viewers.
you know , for kids
This episode was so disappointing and blueballs inducing it makes No Man's Sky & COD:Ghosts look like a goddamn Pixar movie
At the end of the episode I literally said: ''That's it?''
I think i know why the stuff want to down the mane 7's characters. Because the season 9 is Suppose to be the last season for G4. So they gotta lower the character like saving strength then give it all in one shot in season 9. That is what i believe.😊
Elements of insanity, rarifruit confirmed
I'd say there was a bit of Brutallight as well o.o
I believe this is what we call a "troll" episode.
Maybe. ;)
Silver quill will have fun with this show.
Yeah, It definitely had lost potential... but a good episode.
Rising Legend Janine six?
Angela Perkins I might have made a typo with Siri typing it
When the story board of this episode got leaked last year and the title was confirmed as "The Mean Six" I was worried we were going to see a story where the Mean Six replaced the Main Six and ruined their reputations in Ponyville.
The magic horn fight at the Tree Of Harmony was a pretty good payoff followed by them withering to death very well written episode.
Yes this was the Return of Harmony but Chrysalis NEVER interact with Starlight especially! and The mane 6 never saw the mean applejacks green cutie mark and hair ties!!!!!!!!!!!
Blossom Swirl I think the green cutie helps us as audience as we know the difference, it dramatic irony as we know but they don't know.
Or the ponies are green/red colorblind
I said that to my friends the second I heard a rumor that Chrysie was doing something to th elements
I think I would have preferred if Evil Twilight had lived, she seemed like a fun villain, we've seen Chrysalis already, I'd be more interested in seeing Twilight deal with an opponent not only just as strong as her, but just as smart, too.
As strong and as smart.... Hmmmm.....
I think normal twi would be the perfect candidate lol, since it's herself but the OG, not evil scheming pony.
Brings back Old Discord memories.
It’s like so crazy to think that you’re so close to 100K subs Doc. That’s just wonderful 😊
elements of insanity confirmed
I'm the only one who thinks that Twilight's last statement in the episode while Crystalis was leaving, was kinda foreshadowing something?
I hope they bring back the Mean 6 later on at some point. The Fact that they left those coloured pieces of wood there make me think they may be brought back next time the Mane 6 go to the tree.
The mean 6 are the elements of disharmony, like the opposite version of the mane 6, like instead of Applejack being honest, she's being dishonest
I see a third possibility in the ending:
What if the Tree of Harmony thought the Mean 6 were their counterparts? Each black flash indicating that it was disconnecting each pony from their respective Element, and, upon deeming that they were "now" a force too dark to exist in the interest of the safety of Equestria, it ended them. If something like this were the case, would that mean that the next time the real Mane 6 try to use the Elements, they would be denied being able to wield them? In this light, this be setup for new Element bearers, or maybe Chrysalis's reformation, like what was brought up in the companion video.
It's interesting with all the different interpretations of the ending, and it all adds to the anticipation of where this all leads!
Mean AJ is so funny 😂
It was a good one, but I agree, it felt like a build up to....nada. And it's bizarre the main 6 didn't even suspect something fishy going on once they got together and compared notes. I actually expected this to be a climax to a two parter. Hmm...maybe this actually was originally going to be one and changed their minds!!
Loved the Incredibles reference too lol
There's a stinger. In the last few seconds, chrysalis is flying away. She might've succeeded at something
I think this was just the beginning of something bigger.
1:28 I got that incredibles reference. I watched that movie 4 times in the last week.
I feel like this will lead into something. I don't know what it will be... But yes, I feel like it will lead into something.
I think the whole point of the episode was about how the main six were able to forgive each other without finding out about the copies. Its not all about world building and fanfic fuel, its about friendship. Its literally in the name of the show.
The problem with bronies is that they prefer episode with zero effort and lots of world building over a good story.
Or the fading to black could mean, that the Elements of Harmony had detached
themselves from the M6 and so they were rendered useless in the future.
Hearing Rarity say "But I wants it!" like Golem from LOTR really made my day!
That incredible's reference was gold thank you
is it me or did Chtysalis did what Discord did in Season 2 where she'd made copies of the main six and making act the complete opposite of who they represent and to steal the elements of harmony
no discord made the mane six behave ivnersely to prevent them from activating the elements of harmony.
Fun Fact: the scene where the mean six start to melt was originally much more disturbing
This raises the stakes considerably since we've seen she has very powerful magic at her disposal and might seek to corrupt the tree or do some other shenanigans with it.
look at the image at 5:48 in the background theirs a washing line of some kind. is chrysalis living close to the castle?
She needs a moment with you, Dr. Wolf
