    Well Mr Hal, I have to praise you for your good work ethics, because that's how Evan is going to learn and be as good as the rest of you. If we don't try something new, your never going to learn much of anything. It's called making a name for yourself. Be safe and take a little pride in what you do and people will always remember you! Thank for the education, take care 🙂

    I'm impressed that your customer managed to figure out that there was a problem, before things took a turn for the worse. I used to run up and down 95th street and everybody was going hell-bent for leather with little regard for what might have been wobbling behind them.
    That place used to be Jerry's 76 before the T/A bought out the former entity. Had a few good meals in the place over the years. They used to have quite a few pictures on their walls, dating back to the very earliest days of doing business. It was always a pleasure to view their "Rogues Gallery" and take in some of the history that they had captured in photos, with the captions and stories to read below each photo. The one that stays in mind the best was of a wicked snowfall back in ( '72? ) the early seventies that virtually paralysed the area with snow piled quite high. High enough to make the snowmobiler in me jealous.

    I heard that license plate scrape what I do when I get them and I get a few! people heading to the keys on the turnpike! block the trailer tires and I use a gaurdrail block under the rear of the trailer walk the truck under the trailer the rear will keep it's hieghth and not dig in and for hooking go to the first cross beam use an endless loop with the cable running along side of the trailer crank put the trailer safety chains around it and the frame it will keep the trailer center and give you more front room to pull up tighter just my way! Hope it will help! stay safe out there 👍🇺🇸

    Your customer was fortunate to catch that before it went catastrophic. Years ago, I was trucking northbound near Longview WA and saw a southbound motorhome with a boat on a trailer a little smaller than that, with no left wheel trailing a shower of sparks behind him. It was quite the sight in evening twilight.

    Apparently, certain tow companies don't like boats on trailers, and what you explained to that owner must be why.
    Last fall, I had a friend call me one morning. His grandson had been moving his boat from his home to his grandfather's house. And had just about made it, when the same thing happened, one county over from his final destination. They told me that they had called every tow company they knew (about 6), and everyone refused the job.
    So they asked me if I could help get them off of the side of the road. His trailer was a tandem axle so I wound up replacing two disc rotors, 4 sets of bearings and four seals, plus two rear hubs to get them moving (on land), again (yep, two bearings failed and the other two were on the verge of turning loose).
    Friendly advice to everyone who tows a trailer, You won't damage your trailer if you repack your bearings and correctly set the preload on them at the beginning of the season or at least grease them once a year. Especially on a boat trailer that regularly sees the hubs underwater, and especially if that water happens to be salt water.
    Not trying to hurt your business Mr. Hal, but you wouldn't believe the number of boat trailers I see broke down on the highway in my part of the country in the spring and summer months. And another thing, most states have laws and most trailer manufacturers recommend that you do not pull a trailer above 45 - 50 MPH. Going 3 or 4 seasons without servicing you trailers axle bearings and then hopping on the Interstate for 3 or 4 hundred miles at 75 MPH is an invitation for problems.

      i always recommend cleaning and packing boat trailer bearings, as well as seal replacement at the end of boating season. This prevents any moisture trapped in the hub from rusting/pitting the bearings and races over the extended parking in the winter months.The seal is so important in keeping the grease in and the water out. New seals every time you pack bearings will extend bearing life greatly. My little berg of a city is surrounded by water on 3 sides. I don't own a boat but it seems everyone else around here does.

    • @davidhorsley1149
      @davidhorsley1149 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@terryharvey4811 at least install a set of bearing buddys so you can keep grease in the hubs.

    Never ceases to amaze me how trailer owners balk at doing any kind of pre-trip inspection/serve to them because of whatever reason they have. Wrecker bill costs them way more than any pre-trip would. Then add on the repair bill, or total loss of item.
    Do like that fold-away tongue on that trailer.
