I rode the Barry Way last October on my way to the Motogp and then onwards for a lap of Tassie. The NSW section had huge pot holes and deep corrugations. We camped next to the Snowy River, and my mates wanted to camp on the flats next to the river, I suggested it might not be a great idea should the river rise overnight. We ended up camping above the banks. Next morning the area we thought we might camp was about half a meter underwater. I guess they released water from one of the hydro dams overnight. Another great video. Safe travels.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it, yes it great too camp on the rivers edge but like you, i'd prefer to be a few metres higher even if there is no rain forecast as you never know as you example shows. That sounds like it would have been a fun trip.
Love the vids mate, I love how you make them entertaining and not boring like so many others. I.E cutting the riding to the beat of the music so we don’t have to watch many minutes of the same road, if only others would take note 😜
Once again, some great scenery and photography. Thanks for taking us along on the ride. Yes, its always easy to tell where the state borders (or even shire boundaries) are just by the change in the road. Cheers,
I’m so much like u. Always seeing beautiful compositions and scenes when travelling around, just the damn light rarely matches up!! The eternal photographers problem. Love your videos 👍
So beautiful through the high country Joe and a fitting post for Australia Day 🇦🇺 I always find it funny how us Aussies pronounce the name of Kosciuszko as "Koz-ee-oss-koh", where as, it was named by a Polish explorer, Paweł Strzelecki, and is actually pronounced "Koz-ush-koh". I always get looks when ordering a Kosciuszko Pale Ale, with the correct pronunciation. The bar tender usually looks at me cockeyed.
I enjoy watching your videos. The only piece of advice I can give any rider on any road that doesn't have a marked centre line is to ALWAYS keep left and ALWAYS assume someone is coming around the next blind corner way too fast and on the wrong side of the road.
Thanks mate, glad you are enjoying the series. Yes I am super cautious around corners, we have worked out the wide angle of the camera does distort the image a lot, and it seems I am further right, also it doesn't see as far ahead as you do with your eyes. when I saw the footage I was like it looks like I am way right on blind corners but when I was riding it I never was, occasionally I would be on the right if the left side was damaged, but only if I could see well into the distance.
You're probably right about the reason for the shape of Alpine National Park, but a contributory factor might also have been the regions where the government could and couldn't acquire land to add into the park. Great cinematography, as usual.
I`m watching from Canada & enjoying your adventures. To me the landscapes are sometimes similar with a twist but often look so different than what I`m used to.
I am glad you are enjoying the series, yes we are missing those gorgeous pines you have, and a lot of sections here are a lot dryer. But if you keep watching the next few episodes, I stumble onto a magic piece of Canada, well it felt like BC.
Beautiful roads....could get myself lost in that area for a few weeks just exploring the off chutes from the main. Wish I was physically there....perfect for the KLR and retiree I am.....Thanks for taking me along.
Great ride, great views, well put together Joe Some lovely places and so much to see in the Vic high country Looking forward to the next episode Thanks Dave
I'll have to do that ride again one day. I was re living my Barry Way Motorcycle Adventure watching your video Joe. I like you, aren't too keen on the resurfacing with stones. I do get a bit anxious when things get slippy! Great video again! 👍😁
Enjoyed this episode and yes it was worth getting the shot of the tree I'm also a photographer when you were travelling across the Barkley you took a photo of a tree that I had taken cool Bro
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed it. Yes how cool is that white grass and then trees randomly by them selves, I was just worried about the wind, it was crazy when I went through.
I've ridden Barry Way several times, slowly, on RE Bullet. Good fun. My biggest problem was other road users, big 4wd filling the road and 'adventure bikes' at speed throwing stones n dust. You capture the feel of the road well. Best wishes. L
Thanks Leon, I am glad you enjoyed it. I was lucky I only saw one vehicle the whole way. The roads do look like that have gotten a lot of traffic with the amount of potholes. Doing it on a Bullet would be fun.
Shear bliss Joe. I love dirt roads, you mention the feel of the bike under you...same when I'm cantering along a nice dirt road and or trail. Great feeling. The Man
@@freewayproject how wonderful that I was in your thoughts when you saw the brumbies. My first attempt using the GoPro was sort of a fail lol. But there was a dramatic moment that I caught. Tomorrow I will try again.
Hey Joe, you mention/question your experience on dirt, I think experience is more accurately measured by klms. ridden and nights spent out under the stars. From this side of the camera/screen I'd say you have as much or more than many others who may have more years under their belt but pale into insignificants compared with what you do !! And you bring it to our armchairs for our entertainment. I've ridden heaps pf k's and many years, your up there brother. Thanks for all your efforts.
Yes watched this video on Australia Day, feral hot where I am in the Hunter Valley but looks not to bad where you are riding, really love all those alpine areas, great vid Joe .... cheers again ....
Thanks mate, I am glad you liked it, yes this time of year the alpine area is a lot better place to ride because of the temperature and well of course of the stunning scenery and great road tracks and trails.
I love to see the Australian channels and I have seen MAD TV, Adam Riemann and plenty others and they always portray Australia as a rugged desert country with nothing but Simpson desert. But your channel has shown a complete different side of Australia which as an Indian is quite refreshing to see. Coupled with amazing video editing and a dose of history here and there, I believe yours is the best channel I have enjoyed so far. Keep doing what you are doing and enjoy while doing so. Viewers and Subscribers will be there. Peace ✌ ✌
Thanks mate, I am glad you are enjoying the series, yes Australia is very diverse, yes there are 7 deserts in the middle but so much more, it is a lot of fun to explore all the different landscapes and places.
Thanks mate, glad you are enjoying the series. It is a stunning country to explore, yes you never know, I cross paths with someone in the next episodes which you would never think would be possible.
Great 👍 vid of the High Country, your last one ☝️covering Dargo it’s a great place to stay and meet the characters at the Pub . Omeo and Brembra all near were I live at Wodonga , camped off bike at Dog Flat , and just road through Barry’s Way about 6 weeks ago . Don’t forget “ long range track “ turn off the snowy mountain Hwy “ you will end up in Tumet , from their take the scenic route to Wee Jasper ,you will need to jump on the Freeway for a bit after Yass , then head to Rugby - blink and you would miss it , mainly sealed but very nice back road to Crookwell , then to Bathurst THEN DO THE BRIDLE TRACK TO HILL END
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it, yes it is a stunning area to ride up there. I had something come up so i took a route near the coast, but I end up at Hills end in the end 😉.
Shame you missed the detour to McKillops Bridge but what better excuse to go back👍. We're heading back down in a month, can't wait. Welcome to NSW where you have to pay to camp and the roads are crap. The problem being that most people book a site online on the off chance they might feel like going away then don't bother so most sites are empty. I just pull up and camp regardless and have never had a problem.
Yes I looked at McKillops Bridge but thought the same thing, I'll get there on the next ride in the area. Oh that is great to know that for sharing, about the camp sites, even when I have look at national parks when I rock up in an area, they are always fully book, so knowing they are probably not is great to know.
@@freewayproject That's my experience with them Joe. Either that or they pull up to their prebooked site too early in the day and keep going which is another reason why I never book. What's the worse that can happen if someone does actually turn up, you pick your tent up and move it to the next site😂.
Hey joe , after few months i commenting on your videos , i noticed something , do you know what is it , that your videos getting better and better , keep it up , best of luck buddy
Awesome Joe to see you out and about again and another fantastic video, my son and I are venturing down to Jindabyne in mid February for a 4x4 trip for a week from SE Qld, so I am looking forward to seeing some of the country you travelled through in this episode. Could I ask you your preferred brand of action camera you use. Cheers Clint.
Thanks mate, I am glad you are still enjoying the series. That sounds like a fun trip. All action camera don't have the best image because of there size, but I am using the DJI Ozmo action, they have been reliable and compared to other action cameras the image is good. I have only ever had issues with GoPro's personally, I am sure they must work for some people, but they have always done things like stopped recoding, the controls freezing, then not turn off, then not stop recording which meant having to pull the battery out to try reset it. I had to grab one as a spare as it was the only action camera in the location I was in, I bought it then it wouldn't change when I tested it in front of the shop, so went back into the store to get the only other one. Use it for 3 days then kept it as a back up, the next time I went to charge it up it wouldn't charge. There is the new Insta360 Ace Pro but I have never used it. Hope that helps.
Thanks mate. The white version which was the old version did series one and two so had traveled about 40,000km still work great no issue. The black version which is the current one did the second series and this current one so has been on the back of the bike for 26,000km. again no issue work well. The black one does seem to last longer (they made changes from the first model) SO they handle the abuse I dish out on them dropping the bike, all the corrugated roads, heat 48 degrees cold -2 degrees. So yer I am happy with them.
Thanks Brent, I had a look online and that does long like a really fun track. I am ahead of the where the episodes are at as I am a bit slow at editing so I have already passed, but I will definitely be putting that one on the list next time I am through. Thanks again for sharing, it is greatly appreciated.
Great stuff as always, thanks Joe. Tell me, are you running stiffer springs or heavier fluid in your suspension to help cope with big loads and rough roads?
thanks Kym, I am glad you are still enjoying it. No change to the suspension, the only difference is Chase the head of all thing mechanical at Royal Enfield cranked the back shock all the way to try and help the suspension deal with what I keep throwing at it.
Thanks Mark, I am glad you are still enjoying the series. Yes I shoot RAW as a lot of the time the light isn't great and is really harsh so I need as much information in the file as possible to try and get a half decent image.
Hey Joe another great video, thanks you have inspired me to get out there nd explore my home state of Tassie. Today i put my depoist down on the last of the Himmy 411s. I cant wait to.pick her up. Can you tell me what brand and size your soft panniers are? They look like excatky what im looking for. Also do you prefer the soft over the hard panniers or vise verse?
That is awesome, new bike! I got the Rhinowalker ones the 48L (2x24L) they are the cheapest I could find but I used there tank bag and there 30L bag and I have had no issues with them so I thought I would give it a crack. So far all good. I mentioned in one video that the hard panniers are great if you are traveling a lot of longer distances as they hold more and if you are going through more towns etc as you can lock them and leave your stuff on the bike. The softs are great if you are going off road more, they are lighter. but both work for either as I have done. hope that helps rhinowalk.com/collections/moto-bag/products/waterproof-motorcycle-pannier-side-bag-pair?variant=42457462702268
Thank John, glad you are enjoying the series. In the first 2 series I was just roaming around with no really navigation, just heading in a general direction. But for this series (as showing in the first episode) I found some GPX files that had trails in the areas I was going to be passing through, so I used the GAIA GPS app to find my way through these trails and tracks. (more details in the first episode)
Hi mate, not issue with the bike in hot temperatures, the first episode of this series (series 3) I was in 48°C and had no issue. I have also ridden in a desert going l very slow and that was around 43°C - 44°C. If you were in hot conditions it would be advisable to keep an eye on the oil level as it might burn more, but I did not have an issue. hope that helps
Yes like most of the National Parks in NSW, you need to go online and book, it works great for all the people who plan out there trips. Not so great when you have no plan and look for a campsite at the end of the day, as in a lot of the areas you can't get a signal to get online. All good, just one of the things you have to take into consideration when traveling like this.
As appose to Tasmania where most spots are free, if they do happen to have a fee (like $6) there is normally a drop box at those spots where you can leave the payment in an envelop. Old school but works well when you don't have a travel plan.
Hi mate, I bought my bike second hand and it already had the LED headlight on when I bought it. I found the headlight on eBay, this is the one www.ebay.com.au/itm/375160638811?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20230811123856%26meid%3Df07af58c9e6e4badbad3f7ce5267e478%26pid%3D101770%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D375160638811%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p4375194.c101770.m146925&_trkparms=parentrq%3A5acf654a18d0ab3a1701eb91fffd14aa%7Cpageci%3A58f40bb6-bf7d-11ee-b3b5-ca70408befdb%7Ciid%3A1%7Cvlpname%3Avlp_homepage
Hi Joe. I continue to watch and enjoy your videos even though I do not make the time to comment often. One thing that I have noticed, though: I believe that you have changed the filters or saturation adjustment of your videos, or is it just the season that you're riding in??? The most recent videos are all on the grayish tones, whereas your previous series was vibrant in color (which personally prefer). Just wondering. 🙏🏽
Thanks mate, i hope you are still enjoying the series. I haven't mate any changes, so not sure if it is the time of year, the light in summer compared to winter, or i have done something to the camera. I do know that action camera struggle and the images washout when in lower light or bad light.
Hey again Joe, Just saw your most recent video and the color seems to be similar to your first series now. Changed anything? Your photography is always with vibrant colors. It's the videos that changed to my eyes. But as I say Dirt Tracks video seems to be back on the mark. May be my aging eyes! LOL! Not a GREAT thing for my morale, watching your videos. It's still cold and snowy here in Canada so watching is an exercise in patience. Can't wait to get the Himi out on the road again! Stay safe and thanks again for sharing your adventures! @@freewayproject
I do have an instagram but there is nothing instant about it 😂 still uploading images from Western Australia last year, I will eventually catch up. instagram.com/freewayproject/
non existence in places. 2 options you can get offline maps with one of the apps like Gaia GPS or you can actually use google maps, once you put in a destination as long as you don't need to change the destination it will keep working from the gps signal to the phone even with out a connection, you won't get detailed maps but enough to navigate. Also I think I have heard you can download maps for offline use on google maps but I have never tried it.
How fitting that you posted this video on Australia Day 🇦🇺 Exploring our beautiful country by bike.
yes a nice coincidence, it is an amazing country to explore.
Ya just give it a 'thumbs up' instantly, because you know it's going to be an excellent vid...Solid content Joe!
Thanks mate, glad you are still enjoying the series.
The sounds of the Himalayan on the Australian roads and trails just makes me smile. Add to that you fine commentary and great visual portrayals I'm transported. Thanks for brightening my day.

Use it for 3 days then kept it as a back up, the next time I went to charge it up it wouldn't charge.
There is the new Insta360 Ace Pro but I have never used it.
Hope that helps.
@@freewayproject Thanks Joe for the reply and the advice on your DJI unit, I will do some research on the Insta 360. Clint.
More great scenery and riding.👌🏻
Just also wondering how the ITech 300 power stations are going as I’m looking at purchasing one myself.
Cheers
Thanks mate.
The white version which was the old version did series one and two so had traveled about 40,000km still work great no issue.
The black version which is the current one did the second series and this current one so has been on the back of the bike for 26,000km. again no issue work well.
The black one does seem to last longer (they made changes from the first model)
SO they handle the abuse I dish out on them dropping the bike, all the corrugated roads, heat 48 degrees cold -2 degrees.
So yer I am happy with them.
If you are looking for fun rides North of Sydney, try 20 Creeks to Nundle - A fun fun ride.
Thanks Brent, I had a look online and that does long like a really fun track. I am ahead of the where the episodes are at as I am a bit slow at editing so I have already passed, but I will definitely be putting that one on the list next time I am through.
Thanks again for sharing, it is greatly appreciated.
.
Thanks
Greatly appreciated as always mate.
@@freewayproject it'll buy you a coffee at least. Well...at least this week it will....😂
Joe love your work. Are your stills taken in RAW configuration?. Definitely going to follow your routes soon. take care and upright. cheers
The softs are great if you are going off road more, they are lighter.
but both work for either as I have done.
hope that helps

I wonder if it was in better or worst condition back then?
i remember thinking the barry way was a grand name for a goat track@@freewayproject
hello joe, loving your movies just wanted to know how you go about navigating your way
Thank John, glad you are enjoying the series.
Howay man, I read the Himalayan is an air cooled engine so have you ever find any problems when riding in hot conditions?
Hi mate, not issue with the bike in hot temperatures, the first episode of this series (series 3) I was in 48°C and had no issue. I have also ridden in a desert going l very slow and that was around 43°C - 44°C. If you were in hot conditions it would be advisable to keep an eye on the oil level as it might burn more, but I did not have an issue.
hope that helps
there is a booking fee at Kosciuszko park camp grounds. $6 regardless of length of stay.
Old school but works well when you don't have a travel plan.
cool as always ,have a store yet? i may blind lol {sticker ?} regards john
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it. I am working on something, just needing more time as the editing takes up most of my time.
What headlight are you using, it seems you don't mount extra lights on it.
Hi mate, I bought my bike second hand and it already had the LED headlight on when I bought it. I found the headlight on eBay, this is the one

Thanks!
Thank you Larry as always it is greatly appreciated. It has been a lot of fun riding these dirt tracks instead of the main roads.
@@freewayproject
where can we see your pics
I do have an instagram but there is nothing instant about it 😂 still uploading images from Western Australia last year, I will eventually catch up. instagram.com/freewayproject/
14:19 ... casually throws shade on NSW. 🙄🤣
😂😂😂 I thought I corrected myself🤔
Hey Joe. Im doing this trip myself soon. How was the mobile phone reception up there? Im only using my phone to navigate with also.
non existence in places.
