    2010 Speed 3 and I keep her basically stock. She has a Cobb SRI and a CP-E rear motor mount. I get some vibrations mostly at idle but nothing on highway speeds. I love this car and have had no major problems for being about 8 years old and me pushing it every day.

    As someone who had a 2005 Mazda 3 as my first car and a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 as my current daily, the stiffer suspension is also another huge thing to deal with. Living in Toronto, Ontario the roads here get pretty bad in the spring so some of the potholes can get pretty rough matched with the oem suspension setup. But I still cant think of any other car that can do what this car can with the fun and practicality.

    One thing about the interor, at least in my gen 1 is that the side of the seats are black wholes. If something drops down there I carry a grabber tool just to get my phone out of the abyss.

    • @anonguy6453
      @anonguy6453 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here. I used to drive a Forester and it was so easy to reach under the seats and get something. In my speed if something falls down there I immediately want to scream.

    its not as bad as you put it out to be... the clutch is softer than most of the older cars and is actually very comfortable, i get 700km on a tank with highway driving

  • @dylan-pi2zy
    @dylan-pi2zy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I feel I have to be so specific with the clutch, if i don’t get it just right shifting or starting in first won’t be smooth. Focus ST clutch is much more forgiving.

    • @ColtonRichter
      @ColtonRichter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never driven an ST although it would be interesting especially since it's always been considered the Speed competitor

    • @RebeccaCampbell1969
      @RebeccaCampbell1969 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Focus ST, depending on the model, “is more forgiving at shifting because it is has a lesser drivetrain than the Speed3”... that simple.
      The issue Spee3 owners (at least Gen2) with their transmission is... it requires to gain temperature to shift properly.
      At least over here in Mexico the transmission lubricant of the transaxle is too heavy and dense at cool temperatures, so even if the engine coolant/oil reach 80 deg Celsius the transmission is still cold and sticky.
      after a 15 drive it finally feels soft to shift, so racing it prior to these warm temperatures will produce errors and drivers will think its their fault (shift)... when the error was pushing the transmission too early, thermodynamically speaking

    Daily driving a lightly modded MS3 Gen2. A couple of drivability/comfort upgrades and it's a respectable daily driver. The Luk clutch is not heavy at all imo for the horsepower it makes. I have no prob in traffic.
    Big thing I agree with though is the weird biting point. I got used to it within a week or two of driving it. But it makes it hard to switch between a car with a normal bite vs this one haha

    When it comes to a MPS/Mazdaspeed 3, about the only items shared with the standard Mazda 3 are the body shell (with substantial stiffening in the case of the MPS/MS3), the headlining and the dash crash pad - Almost everything else is different from the standard Mazda 3. As an ex Mazda tech and owner of many, many Mazda 3's I drive my series 1 MPS daily and it's fine, in fact I love it. It seems your biggest issue is the aftermarket rear motor mount. I didn't even bother with the rear mount, I'm still using the factory mount and it's lasted 120,000klms no worries - Having said that, I enjoy my car, but I'm not really interested in 'launching it'.

    • @ColtonRichter
      @ColtonRichter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair! I have a lot of friends with Stage 2+ MS3's and they would all love to daily a stock one haha

    • @Hyperno47

      @@ColtonRichter My series 1 BK SP23 with lowered progressive springs and upgraded swaybars was a nice car, but it didn't hold a candle to my MPS - The MPS is just so well balanced on the road, I literally love driving it! Yep, the clutch gets bloody heavy in traffic and I wish I had my auto SP23 when I'm just creeping along, but it's a small price to pay for a massive improvement in performance. Try fitting a solid, lightened flywheel in place of the dual mass flywheel and hear the rollover noise at idle! That can get annoying at times, but there's still not many vehicles I'd swap my MPS for. The trick with the MPS if you want to use it for a daily is not to go outright crazy with bolt ons - They're crazy fun from the factory.

    I've got the 2010 mazda 3 gt 2.5 basicaly the mazdaspeed without a lsd diff, the 2.3 and a turbo. But my clutch bitting point is also realy weird . Its like you eaither under rev it and the car jerks, or over rev it a bit everytime. Its so hard to get the perfect balance, and I don t know if its the clutch or the gas pedal sensitivity or maybe i'm insane.

      People need to understand that the Mazdaspeed 3 basically shares the chassis (with significant stiffening), the dash crash pad, the headlining and the windows with the standard Mazda 3 'family car'. Literally everything else is different from the standard Mazda 3, especially in the case of the gen 1 Mazdaspeed 3/MPS.
