- This is a real time update as of April 1, 17. I also share why I live in a van and why I share my journey with my dogs on TH-cam not being monetary. I just hope to be an inspiration to other that struggle in this live with disabilities. I Enjoy your videos your honesty, your dedication to your dogs. I am also disabled with an old disabled dog. Dogs love their people and need them just as ,I believe, people need their dogs. My life is better because of my dogs. You are an inspiration to me. Thank you. 😊

I think you are a wonderful lady,you're a good person,you love your pups it's obvious. People thing they can tell others what to do,not realizing they should tend their own gardens,which are probably full of weeds. You do what makes you happy. Be who you are. You don't owe anyone an explanation.

I think your dog's are way happier living that life then most dogs. I regret every day that I used to work so much and my cat and dog were home alone 12 hours a day 7 days a week. the dog had a doggy door to the back but still..I should of spent as much time as possible with them.

I agree with you 100% with the room mate thing. If your lucky enough to find one, how do your know they arent gonna skip out on you. Or they want to boss ya around all the time. treat you or your pets bad. So, there ya go. Your pets are your family. you dont get rid of your family because you need a space to live. Heck, when i was married, we had four kid. couldnt rent a 3 bedroom in florida because of rules. we didnt get rid of one of our kids to be able to rent the place. Everyone asked me, why dont you get a room mate, why would you want to live in a van. well because the van is mine. i can do want i want, when i want. plus i want to see things in this country before i kick the bucket. i cant do that when all my money is sucked down the drain on bills. wow thats alot, when all i wanted to say, is you go girl!!!

God Bless You Irene for sharing these thoughts with us! I understand your feelings for your dogs as I have taken care of the dogs in my life to the end of theirs. I've recently retired, and am preparing for extended camping trips with my minivan and two dogs. They are my furry children, and love camping. Enjoy the beauty of the day. Happy trails.
I just came across this video and it was so inspiring for me. I have bad back issues and 2 dogs, (mother and daughter) and had a very hard time finding a place to live once I decided to keep the daughter. Landlords would tell me I had to get rid of one dog. I couldn't part with either. I was setting my car up to live on the road, when this house came up. I wish now I would have just kept going. I have been procrastinating doing this life style because of my health issues, but now I see that it is possible. The weather here in Missouri is rainy, damp, and cold. Going west would be the best option for me health wise, too. And of course I WOULD NOT leave my 2 dogs behind. They are my life and my companions, and do me a great service. I love them and would be lost without them.
I just subscribed to your channel, and I am gonna go back and start at the beginning of your videos. Thank you for your inspiration, and showing us the love you have for your sweet babies. Be done with ignorance of those who have no clue about life and love. I have no time for people like that. Good luck on your journey, and may God Bless!!

Irene, its obvious you love your dogs and they love you! You dont need to defend your life, you are doing the best you can. Ignore mean people who have no understanding. Even if your life appeared to be perfect someone would still find something to criticize..I think you are a kind, strong, brave woman! Be at peace.

wow your truly a inspiration..I hope your journey is a truly magnificent one and I think it's amazing that your keeping your dog's with you any person who truly loves animals as much as you do should fully support and understand that your doing what's best for them.i know I'd do the same for my dog..
I am disabled and have just started watching about this way of life. I am very unhappy in my current situation and really want to get out and live. I have 2 cats, one that is very sick and has to have steroid shots every 6 wks and the other was feral so no one would want her. I just have to have my babies with me, too. The only thing is, I can't afford a van or anything on SS right now. I have an old car which isn't in the best of shape but I'm thinking of living in it for awhile to save up enough $ to buy a van. We are all family here and will continue to watch your videos. My dog Ginger had many health issues and I made sure she had a good life up till the end. She was protective and full of love and brought much joy to my life. A friend of my mothers told me I should dump her. I never talked to her again. Some people can be very heartless. I feel that a great deal of people have health issues so your not the only one and feel that you don't need to explain yourself if you chose not to. A true friend excepts you as you are and finds joy in friendship along the way. Doesn't mean that you have to agree on everything but the beauty of it is you still remain friends. Its like you have a friendship that can't be divided no matter what. Be safe and look forward to your next video.

I have also had that one shitty roommate in my life, which is not easy when your a sensitive person with any kind of disability and animals. Our story sound similar in that case. I also agree with the others who say bad things about you or the dogs. Don't pay attention to them. I think you and the others who have dogs with you know they love it. Doggy kisses? I don't think anyone who loves their dogs had never had kisses from them. Keep it up as long as you can. I will be here with you.....you should start a Patreon page to help you out....

hello I hope your enjoying AZ, like you I have almost the same desabilitys you have I share your pain I got letgo at my job as well it takes a lot of courage to live like we do. I say don't stop what your doing because there is a lot of trolls out there to bring any one down with out knowing the situation. I say ignore the trolls and keep up the good work .

You sound like me This move we did to my dream even if it's in a wheel chair is what we chose to do even if pulled by a dog is what I'm facing sadly my mobility dog has passed away . Then my gov took my medical away even though a judge ordered it permanent no matter the $ was for $ cut off Then when I was practically under the knife is when the medical ended for two things as it was (physicaly and visually then to find out caterscts was being chased by glaucoma diegnosed by a charity paid dr making my glasses yrs later ) if I had gone through with one of two eyes and my back I would of been mor visually screwed and in a chair yrs before eventually it could if left me physically and sighted effected more then I am presently effected I fought with a landloard over my legal right to have a service dog guess who wine and who had a big fine yup I don't go down easy

Hi Irene, I just finished gutting my van. Ready to order the solar panels from freight store, adding all the needed items, and maybe meeting up with you ladies. I don't want to pay rent, gas, light, cable no more. I'm so so very excited. I retired in 2015, worked 43 yrs, I love to be out doors. Can't wait to see you ladies.

Hi Irene, thank you for this video. I find inspiration watching your journey. I am about to start mine. I too am disabled, just got my disability money and bought a van. I have a immune disease called sarcoidosis and I have neuropathy and arthritis. I live in FL and it is too hot in the summer so my cat Salem and I are leaving home for six months. Will be traveling west through TX,NM, CO, UT, AZ, CA and OR. Maybe I will run into you at some point. Meanwhile follow your heart and be there for your fur babies!

I have subscribed as I am deeply interested in your story. I totally understand about your dogs, as they are approaching their end years, its very challenging to keep going and the language to express why and how are not always there or easy. I appreciate what you are saying and how you are attempting to express what you are experiencing and the circumstances. Just know that its ok, just keep going. I too deal with the same, yet don't care to explain it to anyone (they won't understand anyway). God knows the truth and is the one who matters the most to me anyway. Your doing right by your dogs; I've rehomed pets before and it doesn't always work out for them or you (both miserable with that scenario). Hope you will find comfort in your own decisions and circumstances regardless of what anyone else my think or say.. I'd love to be able to head to warm climates in the winter. Maybe some day. *Hug.

Irene - I subscribed and have been watching your adventures since the deal with the room mate so I understand your situation. I also have several little senior dogs and am in your corner on all of that. Your dogs are living the life I would bet most dogs can only dream of out there in the sage brush in nature instead of the same back yard, day in and day out. You don't have to explain anything to anybody. We are all dealt a certain set of cards in life and the game is to see how well you can play your hand. Any man, let alone a woman by herself with disabilities who lives "out there" in the world has to have a certain amount of SAND to live like that exposed all the time 24/7. If anybody is giving you or evidently Debra Jo too a bad time, ignore them! They are no doubt arm chair quarter backing from their lazy boy in the comfort of their home and are clueless as to what it takes to pull off what you gals and guys are doing out there in the REAL world. Your adventures are always interesting and very inspiring to the rest of us so just remember that from now on. You are living the life many can only dream of or are working towards. Hold your babies tight...always!!

Karl Miller Thank you so much!!! 😉👍 Maybe one day I might get to meet you and your wife..😄 People out there judge people if your travel in a van but if you retired and travel in a Class C or A or trailer it not problem. What people don't get is honestly I am close to retirement age now by close to 5 years, I just look and sound around 15 years younger than my age. If you are young living in a van and lot of people judge people, sad. I am a retired lady with disabilities snowbirding like so many other retired people. The trolls out there where coming after me but it is sad that they do that period..👍😉💓😄🚐

I too have degenerative disc disease, spinal demylenation, and transverse Myelitis. I receive Ssdi but after medicare is taken out I barely get $700 a month. If anything happens to my husband id be in a van myself. I'm actually preparing myself for this possibility. Thank you for sharing your journey and your faith in the Lord. He sure provides!!!!
..also, do you still see doctors to treat your pain and issues?
Thanks for sharing your story. I'm really sorry people are judgmental towards you, it does happen and honestly it just looks bad on that person. You love your fur babies and would only do everything in your power to help them. Really licking your face got them going??? I'm just without words ....

Good story telling. Sorry you had such a poor roommate situation, and yet you love the dogs so much you couldn't give them up. I hope to retire early in a van in 3 years to leave the rat race. I doubt I would be able to afford caring for van maintenance upkeep, and myself, if I keep my older cat, plus he hates moving in a vehicle... screams all the time when i have to take him in the car. I'm going to try to find a new home for him this year which might be possible before he gets 3 more years older and becomes near impossible to find a home for, and before i move this year (find a roommate... oh no! yes, they can be horror stories), but i feel I need to try that to save some of the rent I am now paying for a future van purchase. Enjoy your time left with the pups... it's important to you and that's what matters!

Hi Irene. I remember your original videos and the way things happened for you and I was proud of how you managed. Now I can relate more to your situation. I have been planning on going full time in August or September this year. However, I recently injured my shoulder and had to get a partial titanium replacement. And just the other day I found out that I had a pulmonary embolism. This has set my timeline back and altered my plans. Although my health concerns won't come close to what you have to deal with, that 62 I know I will be dealing with some health issues because of this. The idea of hooking and unhooking a travel trailer with a bum arm may not be possible. So now I have my own lemons and I am contemplating different lemonade recipes. If you can do it, so can I. This is just my way of letting you know that you are an inspiration. Thank you

So happy to have found another van life person I can identify with Irene. You are an inspiration to those of us who live with life changing disabilities. I have not had a life for 12 years. I want one before I get a minute older and/or sicker. Mentally I am all ready there. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your life with me. You are living it lady with your beloved pets. I have one also, with me for 11 years. I had to leave her for 6 months to move to another state to help with my mother. When I got her back I promised her I would never leave her like that again. It has been difficult for me also to find a roommate because of my dog. We are a package deal I tell everyone. She's my girl, she's my baby and my mother loved hearing about her daily antics. She watches me like a hawk thinking I'm going to leave her like that again. I reassure her that I will be back, and what delight we both feel when I come back home. I love your channel. Take care :)

You should never have to give up your babies. I've been following you for a long time, and I remember when you had to quickly leave your roommate's home - that was unbelievable!! When I commented on Milo licking your face, I was never judging you, I was commenting that only a true dog lover (like myself) would ever understand it. I hope i didn't come across as judgmental, it wasn't meant that way. I truly enjoy your videos, and look forward to more of them.
