This woman is next-level! The balance she has to have that leads her to having humor on this subject in this way is something to behold for me.

I salute Prof.Paige . As a student of Church history and philosophy, I sum-up : To be deep in the history of the New Testament is to discover the Sacred Tradition first.

As a former student of Dr. Hochschild, I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. I can also say that I, personally, was never offended by her sarcastic humor. However, that may be due to my familiarity with the Litany of Humility. 😄

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
05:09 🇨🇦 Dr. Paige Hochschild is a Canadian teaching at Mount St. Mary's University and Seminary in Maryland.
11:10 🙌 The Church is both a visible institution on Earth and an eschatological, heavenly reality.
15:14 💪 Our identity as children of God is a fundamental aspect of our relationship with the Church.
18:01 🤔 Finding freedom within the Church involves a sense of trust and submission to authority.
22:32 🍽️ The Church, like a family, offers a place of love and acceptance, even in imperfect circumstances.
22:46 🤔 The discussion revolves around the philosophical and sociological arguments regarding human trust and the virtue of faith as a gift.
23:13 ❤️ Criticism within the Church can be an expression of both frustration and affection, akin to fraternal correction, especially when done with love.
25:22 📚 St. Thomas Aquinas discusses the obligation of correcting each other within the Church, but with specific conditions such as avoiding hypocrisy and ensuring privacy.
29:05 💡 The primary focus for the Church is on the gift of the Holy Spirit and the fact that God works through the Church, rather than getting caught up in secondary matters like liturgy or music.
31:52 👪 Ecclesial relationships differ from political relationships as the Church is a family marked by charity, and its primary focus is the well-being of others.
33:43 🙏 Recognizing the apostolic virtue of humility and seeking to be small within the Church can lead to greater unity and grace within the community.

Great interview... I enjoyed her brevity and honesty. We must be humble about our personal desires and criticisms. Jesus is present to us in the blessed sacrament! Worry not and have a spirit of charity.

She draws a good amount on recovery. She’s covered the healthy ego defenses pretty good but if I was there I’d pray to God to produce a good appropriate joke.

It's better to shut up than to speak... Given the centrality of trust, we really do need a modern non-Victorian translation of Newman's Grammar of Assent

Every time I hear an exegete accuse the apostles of going back to their old jobs and abandoning Jesus, I want to scream. That interpretation is ancient, but has been rejected by the church fathers the whole time. Why won't it go away?!

I know we aren't supposed to really be looking at the bible for answers, but the way the ecclesia is described there is much different than the Catholic church (and even most other church institutions)...

The apostates just forbade the Holy Mass in Steubenville. Shame on them.

Ha! The Holy Roman Empire is not the Church.... We have to get over that.

The church started by King Henry VIII, the Adulterer, is not the Church. The Church is a family. If a King cannot honor the sacrament of marriage, what gives him the authority to run a Church? A country?
St. Anselm, whose feast day it is, and who served God in England, pray for us!
