Lemme just say, as someone who played against him in conference play every year (he’s 2 years younger than me), and played against him growing up in AAU, the hate was not all directly due to him dropping Wisconsin for Kentucky, lots of it had to do with the amount of call refs would give him, his cockiness on the court since sophomore year, and many people at his own high school didn’t like him because he was stuck up and arrogant. However lemme just say, the kid was the most amazing player to watch in high school after I graduated. So crafty, so smooth, and when he became that good his junior/senior year I did not mind the cockiness one bit, he could back it up 100%. Many wisconsinites my age hated playing him, but love watching him and where he has gone. Another fun fact, I’m sitting here working at Princeton club (a gym in new Berlin), about 5-6 years ago he was here just about every day, we would play pick up basketball and always invite him to play and he absolutely refused every time. He was so focused on the fundamentals and drills, he wanted no part of the games. Massive respect for that, at the time we thought he was a prick for not wanting to play, but now clearly it’s paid off lol. Gunna have to pick up a Herro Jersey this year for sure.
