    I relate too much to Cormac. I constantly move from place to place when I feel stagnant. I currently work seasonal fishing jobs on rural Alaskan islands. Dropped out of college 2 years in. Was in the army for 4 years. Baseball superfan. Two short stories published in high school. Now I do journalism but it barely keeps the lights on but still doing it. I spend (well, spent) my days walking through nature with my dog (a Doberman named Paulie who passed this summer). I just got back from backpacking Eastern Europe for two months. A failed engagement 😂. My immediate family think I’m a disappointment cause I don’t slave away in the oil fields of west Texas full time and have a family and “normal” life already at 24.

      You aren't a failure brotha. You have six decades left to either do something or do nothing!

    Interesting. I can definitely see him being that kid in high school that just kinda gets by, only to do some crazy accomplishments later on. :)

      Exactly. Have had a lot of those students! Also was that kid. But, haven't got the crazy accomplishments part done yet lol.

    This is unrelated, but Im about 58 pages into Blood Meridian (just got to the part where Captain White's army is ambushed) and this just feels like a slog. Does it get better or should I read something else and pick it up later?

    • @WriteConscious
      @WriteConscious  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does get better. But, it doesn't change that much. Things near the end expand and become more epic, but there is more violence and similar stuff ahead. I would say finish it if you've started. You have to approach it when you're feeling lucid though. Reading "Blood Meridian" is hard even after I've done it multiple times. Can't do it before bed or when I'm out of it!

      I'm reading BM now on my 3rd try and getting through it. Actually reading 2666 help me cause if you can make it through the over 400 pages in the part about the crimes of poor women being raped and killed in a lawless hell on earth place than BM is not so bad.

      @@thewireboy100 For me it was more so the pacing that troubled me. The last 80 or so pages are gold though, but reading this book slowly is very necessary

    i like hearing the biographical stuff and i haven't even read him. the mystique around blood meridian has me intrigued as to what kind of life and personality leads to becoming one of the greatest american authors while writing about the bleakest aspects of life.
    anyways i'm enjoying the biography series. i think the fact he wanted to be rich says alot about his ambition and probably his disdain for ordinary jobs and an ordinary life.

      Haha brotha, you gotta dive into McCarthy. You will love him. But, I also listen to biographies about authors I never read all the time haha.
      Thanks! Hoping to finish the series then redo it in more of a longer format documentary like your recent content :)

      @@WriteConscious a 2+ hr video on his life and works with occasional relevant pictures thrown in would probably do better than shorter content imo. my second highest viewed video was just a compilation of four shorter videos with a 1 minute catchy intro for what it's worth.

    You can actually still can charge more to jews and protestants at Catholic schools. But it's more of a "catholic" vs. "non-catholic" distinction. This may be because practicing Catholic may give a certain amount of money and time to the church as it is, so they're incentivized to have their kids raised in the faith rather than at a public school. Cheers mate
