The Cope accident is absolutely bonkers and has to be one of the wildest forgotten flips in NASCAR history. The other car literally launched off a 30 (?) 40 (ft?) embankment and nearly landed in the campground.
Ernie's final win before his tragic season ending practice crash! I think he would have won a few more races and possibly the championship had he not had his near fatal mishap! That was nice of Ernie to have that special kid with an uncommon handicap celebrate with him, little did he and everyone else know that he would suffer handicapped disabilities a few months later!
The way the Brickyard 400 ended for him (flat tire while leading handed Gordon the win) would be a prophetic precursor to Ernie's near fatal accident at Michigan. Hard to believe this was 30 years ago. I vividly remember attending both Dover and Pocono races in 1994.
13:10 race start 30:20 first caution 36:15 second caution 42:12 second caution 47:20 third green flag 1:06:23 third caution 1:12:13 fourth green flag 1:14:30 fourth caution 1:24:37 fifth green flag 2:04:10 end of the race
It was flagged for copyright and at the time, I didn't know how the strike system worked, so I cut it as a precaution. Now that I know it's not a big deal, I will *eventually* re-upload it with the intro lol
