    I am at work right now so I'll watch it when I get home. I love the vintage tools and machines that you restore. They are unique. I also enjoy waiting for Avril's cameo each time too.

    I'm not a machinist, wood crafter, antiques dealer, etc. but I recognize careful work in restoring this piece. I love seeing these old tools. Tres jolie!

    Some kitty timestamps:
    03:21 Introducing the fluffy one
    06:11 Little paws peeking on the top right corner
    13:27 Avril on watch
    A vise made of mostly wood, I didn't think they are or were used. Please take care so that the adorable orange assistant doesn't get his little paws stuck in there :)

    Ouapp, punaise! C'est qu'il a dû en voir, des mains bricoleuses, cet étau! Toutes ces marques et l'histoire qu'on devine... L'artisan penché sur son travail... Savamment et respectueusement remis en état par un autre artisan... J'aime... Et on voit qu'Avril aussi, approuve...

  • @Jarastlad
    @Jarastlad 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Franchement, ce n'est pas juste une belle restoration, c'est aussi un super respect payé a (aux) l'artisan qui a créé cette pièce. En plus d'être fonctionnelle, elle est vraiment belle. Très beau travail, merci pour vos vidéos motivantes de Belgique !

    What a beauty !!! Another absolutely gorgeous piece of history brought back to near new condition. I have to admit I never seen one of them, adding to my admiration but totally aware of it's purpose and function. Again a lovely tool that would grace any work bench as a conversation piece and to be admired, where it's working days would be limited, like a senior with a gentleman's past, graciously...

    A really nice ,sympathetic restoration, a good idea to use candle wax on the leadscrew, any oil/grease would soon become clogged with wood dust ! Chris B.

    Love the things you choose to restore. Most of them are things a lot of people would discard without a 2nd thought. Also love how you work with every day common tools showing it's not expensive equipment that restores things, it's the hands using them

    Is anyone else being driven insane that he didn’t make sure that the clamping face was square to the base? When he closes it and I see that gap my machinist blood boils 😅😂

    I also restored one that looked like this... But I treated the wood with epoxy resin in a vacuum chamber.

  • @homeyshlitz
    @homeyshlitz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The jaw plates were most likely lead I can see why you chose to use aluminum. What made you change the grain on the jaws you repaired LADB? It looks like that round metal plate was added at a later date. I'm pretty sure they didn't have plasma cutters in the 1850s

    • @sheep1ewe
      @sheep1ewe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oxygen torches was actualy introduced 1914, Hydrogen, single gas torches existed in the 1890s, but yes, probably from the 1930-40s, but that plate is very handy so i had kept it too.

    • @KarriKoivusalo
      @KarriKoivusalo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The plate looks flame cut, a 19th century oxy-hydrogen torch would've been well up to the job.

    A sympathetic restoration while retaining some of the 'bumps' and 'knocks' acquired over the years. Personally, I would have gone for brass jaw plates with brass screws where appropriate. i would have also 'blued' the exposed metal. But an excellent restoration, thanks for sharing.

    Long time watcher now and I really like your content. When an object is worth restoring over one knows its a good design and would like it to last for as long as possible.
    If you could add some measurements for this more crafteable objects it would be much appreciated!!
