I live close to New Bern. Before jumping to conclusions that New Bernians are "stupid for staying" and "putting rescuer lives at risk", there is another side to this coin. There are more poor people in and around New Bern than there are middle and upper class. They simply can't get out bc they don't own cars, are old, etc. Not everyone is "thoughtless" or "care free" about riding out a hurricane; most of these people just can't help it.
New burn had a week to get out why didnt they. I domt understand why people put their lives on yhe line for materialistic stuff your lives are more important. Now u r putting rescue workers lives at risk .
