Hell yes, we needed this! Great analyzes man!
In the whole meme debate I think many people overlooked just how good and polished Fanchen's performance actually is from a musically point of view. I saw many people comment how there are better pianists, harder pieces etc. without realizing that that's not what this was all about, you can't really compare two pianists when they play different pieces. In fact this wasn't even about showing who is the better pianist or flexing some very hard and technically demanding piece. This was about showing how you can take one piece, one arrangement (although he of course did make some changes) and play it in such a way that it draws a picture in the listeners head, emphasizing each note in order to produce something that is truly musically. This was about showing what sets a performance that is good or even great apart form one that is mediocre.

I have brother like Fanchen, and it sucks arguing with him. He's too blunt and literally has high standards.
I once taught him to cook, but he didn't want to listen to me. He told me that I was a too-beginner for me teaching him. Honestly, it hurt my feelings, but I do admit I'm a beginner. It's much better if a professional could teach him so he wouldn't waste time at my not-well-polished skills and instead take advices from those are professional who are knowledgeable and experienced.
Efficiently is everything in his life. He does not waste time and suck all the advices and criticism from the professional and hear nothing from his peers. It is his greatest strength, but also can be his downfall.
People may seem see my brother as an arrogant person. But as his sibling, I always see him the most insecure and at the same time most confident person ever.

Duly note at 13:56 that required pressure along the length of the keys is due to how close the pivot point is on most digital pianos and keyboards. This is a significantly less, if at all, noticeable problem on acoustic pianos, particularly grands, or keyboards incorporating acoustic piano action.

Great. I love the analysis. I play the piano for over 28 years, but since it stayed just a hobby and I usually only play by heart and memory, I haven't yet attempted Rush E. It's awe inspiring to see such a more than mediocre, I'd even dare say impressive, performance from fenchen and SMB (they have a two-player version).
Also your analysis is on point and even made me understand certain techniques, that I apprently already have been using, but didn't know how/why (it just felt natural whenever I used them - e.g. playing the same note with different fingers if playing it with just one is not fast enough).

I don't get the whole. Criticism argument that I keep reading in the comments.
Fanchen wasn't criticising the OP. He was giving a rather blunt statement to a question that was compelling enough for him to answer.
It's like seeing a random peice of art hanged on a public street that garnered the masses going "oh wow so cool. Much talent. How can anyone dislike this?" And him as a bystander that just happened to be there replying "Probably cause its mediocre. No offense." Literally giving his straight opinion on what he just witnessed to a question posed by someone next to him.
That statement wasn't even directed at the OP.
It'll be different if he left his own original comment saying "its medicore no offense" but he didn't.
It's not a critique unless you're directly talking to the creator.
It's just an opinion. You can argue about his opinion. Which imho is the correct assessment. It was rather mediocre if viewed from the lens of a professionally trained pianist. Or even from anyone who has some idea of what polished good performances are.
But you can't keep saying he's the villain for giving a shitty critique. When it can't be a critique as it was never directed at the OP. It's just his genuine reply to a question posed by a fellow audience member.

I don't think he's talking about the music theory, I think he's talking about the techniques what Ranchen used. I'm not a a pianist or something, so I'm not sure, but yes.
Also the musicality, the way he delivered Rush E. The thing is Rush E is just literally a meme, but Ranchen made his own interpretation or version of Rush E. Ranchen is a well-trained and talented musician, he made Rush E from a meme to classic music, that is pleasing to the ears.
There's no music theory in this vid aha, this is more technicality and musicality. I think.

The reason why the majority went after Fanchen is because the majority is neither talented nor hardworking nor taught in behaving accordingly online.
Saying that you know something is great or mediocre in a field you have no mastery of is the norm online, yet it's neither valuable nor legitimate. Taking offense that someone who does have such mastery, build upon both skills and hard work is in his place to rate things differently than you are is the actual arrogance. If you suck at something, you have the right to shut it when competent people are talking and... no, nothing more. Shut it. If you want a sit at the big boy's table, you have to earn it. Fanchen certainly did.

So many unskilled people not understanding and hating people who have put massive amount of effort towards success... The 4 pianists playing the melody share one piano, the 8 pianists playing the constant repeated notes section all share one piano, and the other 9 pianists have a piano each as they need to use a whole piano. One of the pianists however must be allowed an engine - probably a block of wood strapped to each hand, one 9 keys wide, the other capable of playing all the keys at once.

Funny how you say that, Fanchen has actually learned Gaspard De La Nuit and played Scarbo live, definitely had an influence on his playing here in rush E lmao.

from what i can tell from the original video it's easyer to see the finger movement in 4:30 in the reflection of the piano

Hey I randomly found you're video after watching a video about the whole internet drama and why the guy uploaded the video in the first place it's halarious. I really enjoyed you're professional take on this. I would love to see your take on Lattice's Undertale - Spider Dance on the piano, it's still my favorite undertale song out there and her version is straight up impressing to me.

before I watch the video, no, he's not. Perfect tempo maintained through that many keystrokes, through a rendition he created in that span of time? Incomprehensibly undeniable level of skill.

How can people dislike this? I can't see anyone making a video on fanchens rush e, saying that it may be mediocre.
