Thanks for recording your first impressions of the aftermath. I have those little springs behind my mountain cabin when the snow thaws in N NM in May. They trickle into the river until July 4th, then disappear. I'm one of the lucky ones in our little mountain valley. A bunch of my neighbors have springs under their houses. Enjoyed your commentary. Happy to hear you have family w/access to heavy equipment.
Wow wow wow. Thanks for sharing this Eric/Elinor! I am a friend of the Walton family from way back. The destruction is real. I loved your commentary and explanation of what was "before" and "after." Question- how did you actually logistically manage leaving when the roads were this bad?
I'm putting together the part 2 video right now to talk about that, actually. Basically, a couple of the folks that live on this road (my uncle and my cousin being among them) own different types of land-moving equipment, and they set to work pretty much right away installing new culverts and rebuilding the road. In places where they weren't able to, they just cut a new path through the forest to bypass the broken sections of road. By Monday afternoon, almost all of owenby cove was accessible by ATV, and by Tuesday, it was possible (very sketchy, but possible) to get up to my road with a 4WD vehicle.
This is part 1, according to the title. Is a part 2 coming? I’m past the gate up on the mountain. Thanks to M&M making the road driveable, we weren’t trapped for weeks after all!
@NancyGrindstaff-rn1br yes! I've got all the footage for a part 2 video. It's just a matter of putting it together. Life just sorta... started catching up to me, you know? :)

I'll just keep dealing with the snow i guess 😅
