Alright. Time to explain the blood red life bar when he had black ink. Essentially, colors have two main (assuming my sleep deprived brain is correct) ways of communicating color values. There’s RGB and Hue/Saturation/Value. We’re using the second one for this. Hue is a number from 1 to 360 to determine the color. Saturation is a number from 0 to 100 to determine how washed out it is, with 100 being bright color and 0 being bright white. Value is also 0 to 100, and states the darkness added on. It makes minimum saturation colors into grays, and if it’s at 0, overrides everything to black. So the game likely drops the Hue/Sat values since the Value is set to zero, and we can just conserve memory by making them the lowest value. But the life bar color probably set to ignore saturation and value, and reads the default of 1, thus making it red. Why specifically blood red? I dunno really, but there probably is some overlayed, semi-transparent dark color making it less of an obnoxiously bright color. Tl;dr: Black overrides other code numbers, software makes other code numbers minimum to save every last bit of memory, the life bar of the hud of the game Spoon for the Wii U ignores the thing that determines if the ink color is dark or washed out so it becomes the default of red, and the dark red is probably made with transparent dark color placed on top of it.
