Even if they do decided to take action, they'll probably "nerf" it into a 2/2 or something and then call it a day. Don't get your hopes up with the devs.

I loved playing old exodia mage, but now it's just crazy, the cards around sorcerer's make it possible to do this 5 turns earlier than I used to be able to. Flamewaker is just nuts as well.

choice B is likely the right answer. Making the spells not free anymore would kill apm mage immediately (and would also probably mean sorcerers apprentice no longer sees play, but maybe thats for the best).
Adding one mana cost to both Apprentice and Flamewaker would delay this type of OTK Mage enough that the other types won't get completely destroyed by the apprentice changes. Say you go with the whole "you cannot reduce the cost below 1", then Mozaki goes out of the window immediately, it just doesn't exist as a card anymore. But Apprentice at 3 mana would be costly for them, it would make it harder to play it and also delay them a turn which is harder to afford for them than this deck. I do not think that this particular deck has ever had Apprentice as the sole issue, without Flamewaker the entire combo falls apart, and Flamewaker can be used without Apprentice. Best solution is to nerf them both if this deck becomes the top dog again. The overarching problem with these types of Mage decks are all the mana cheats in combination, though the biggest of these is still Apprentice, it's just really difficult to nerf that one card in a substantial manner as to also keep other decks capable of doing their combo, Antonidas Exodia lives and dies with the ability for Apprentice to reduce the mana cost of Fireball to 0, and Antonidas Exodia is not even remotely viable, Mozaki is still an inferior version of Flamewaker, and requires extensive mana cheats.

Mana cheat is universal problem across all the classes. The only fair solution would require massive overhaul of the game but I think it would be worth it in the long run - no zero cost cards (apart from the coin) and cost reduction in the game never reduces cards below zero mana.

It really deserves a nerf like it main reason a lot good and balance cards got nerd unfairly for mage. Also it only make mage bit more fun to vs if they can't spam Free spells (or free RNG spells)
Honestly without scams I don't think Mage can be good anymore: secret mage can't be played simply because of Pirate Warrior and the rest of the archetypes are really underpowered for the current state of hearthstone. It is sad but that's how it seems to be.
This card not being nerfed despite enabling all kinds of toxic decks year after year is one of the contributing favors to why when I quit hearthstone I never looked back. It’s too stressful to play, better to watch highlights
No need to make the nerfed version playable. Who cares if the card is unplayable. Remember Warsong Commander? The deck that card enabled was way way way less toxic than current mage decks, but still got nerfed straight into uselessness.

I've played this deck for a few games, drek thar sounds good but I mostly just drew him during my combo.. or I draw him early on and then draw the combo before I can use him. :D

You can fix all the problematic decks. You don't have to fix just this one, but this one in particular is pretty terrible for the health of the meta.
