Does anyone else think this is the first band since the "60's, that rises to the level of The Band?? Any for me, IMHO, that's saying a lot, a whole, whole lot. I mean a whole lot, more than just the fact that they have that same "something" the fact that a band of this "nature/not of this world" could happen again, in spite of the desert of music that's existed for such along time
even 7 years later, seeing little 17 year old me front row of my favorite bands music video really makes my heart happy. I SCREAMED the first time I saw this 🥰
This feels like the most perfect representation of life in lyrics I have ever heard. Wonderful, sweet, and haunting... I listen and am not sure if these are happy or sad tears.
"it betrays the meaning putting it in words" is a great example of how our brains aren't made or mostly can't express or think about the light at the end of the tunnel that our minds realize when we die
Listen to just about anything by Mary Chapin Carpenter for songs about life. Dawes opened for her on her 2023 summer tour. It was the first time that I've seen Dawes live, but won't be the last!
Still the best band out there touring and killing it live. Just attended my 5th show in the past 4 years. They just keep getting better every time I see them. And Taylor has to be one of the premier composers of this or any generation. Most people don't know what they are missing by not listening to Dawes.
I heard them live in the foro sol of Mexico City, they opened The Killers concert there and I liked it. They gave EVERYTHING they had in their hearts in that performance. I whish you the best
This vid is only a taste of how great Dawes is live. Just saw them at The Capitol in Port Chester, NY. Taylor dances all around the stage with his guitar! The energy is fabulous. His songs are the best kind of deep lyrics, great riffs, great hooks.
If you have headphones and the right mindset i truly believe that this is one of the most beautifully written songs I've ever heard. I wish I could write things like this.
I LOVE that they used soo many shots from their First Ave show in MInneapolis!! BAD ASS. I was at those shows :) CANT WAIT TO SEE THEM ON NYE at the Varsity :) Best band ever!!!
Saw them at the Wiltern a few weeks ago. Such a tight sounding band! I loved every minute of it. And also cried during "A Little Bit of Everything"...oopsie :)
I'm a musician in my late 60's - this song and this band blow me away! There IS hope for music yet. This sounds like something that might have come out decades ago by Jackson Brown or David Crosby - two genius songwriters.
I like a lot of stuff from these guys. I think this is a great song overall, but what really does it for me is when that melody gets so hauntingly sweet every second line of the verses. Sticks right in my head and I don't mind at all.
Heard this on indie radio--pulled over ..listened, waited for the song to end...hoping they'd say your name so I could write it down. They didn't, but a lyric search made it easy. :) Top of the list for shows I want to see this/next year!
You won't be disappointed... Saw them for the first time last time year. They far surpassed my expectations. Incredibly tight and professional band. A lot there songs sound better live...
Great Band! I hope they come to Council Bluffs, IA or Omaha, NE sometime. :) I am so glad they were on a talk show. I run around with their songs in my head most of the time.
+Murray Gettle All over YT followers of their music say the same. I hear Jackson Browne in one song, Zevon in another, Neil Young, Petty, Atlanta Rythm Section, Eagles. The lead and drummer are brothers, their old man played in Tower of Power, 70's funk band, they defintely have the 70s sound.
If she listens very carefully to a room of conversation She can feel the planet orbiting through space She hears pieces of arguments, beginnings of jokes And the odd lines of a song she cannot place And it all makes up an image that resists interpretation Which is lately how she likes to see herself How she does not believe in accidents, doesn't disagree out loud And falls in love with every man she cannot help And she thinks "Most people don't talk enough about how lucky they are Most people don't know what it takes for me to get through the day Most people don't talk enough about the love in their hearts" But she doesn't know most people feel that same way If she focuses her energies on just walking through the neighborhood With depths and shallows nobody could sound Like January Christmas lights under billion year old stars She comes up with more of what is lost than what is found So by the time that she explains to me just a glimpse of what she's understood She betrays the meaning putting it in words So she smiles at me lovingly and says, "just let me hold your hand So far it's the only way I can let myself be heard" And she thinks "Most people don't talk enough about how lucky they are Most people don't know what it takes for me to get through the day Most people don't talk enough about the love in their hearts" But she doesn't know most people feel that same way And she thinks "Most people don't talk enough about how lucky they are Most people don't know what it takes for me to get through the day Most people don't talk enough about the love in their hearts" But she doesn't know most people feel that same way And she thinks "Most people don't talk enough about how lucky they are Most people don't know what it takes for me to get through the day Most people don't talk enough about the love in their hearts" But she doesn't know most people feel that same way
I know that Bender would tell me that this is not technically irony, but for the longest time I had the outline of THIS song stuck in my head but I couldn't place it at all. Just so this comment actually contributes something: For fans of good lyrics, if you don't know them, check out The Mountain Goats. Different sound for sure, but great lyrics.

Absolutely

Dawes is special and this is my favorite song of theirs. There's nothing quite like them out there today.
I remember this song from 2013 after a deep loss. Ive been looking for it for years. Thank you❤
This feels like the most perfect representation of life in lyrics I have ever heard. Wonderful, sweet, and haunting... I listen and am not sure if these are happy or sad tears.
Agreed :')
Such a shame it takes 7 years to get 696k views

Hands down these guys are the best band currently working today.

"most people don't talk enough about how lucky they are.."
Amen 😎🔊☀️
First Ave in MPLS = One of the best rooms in the country to see a show (Period)
2013 was the best year for Dawes, followed by 2016, 2017, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2014.
2013. Ottawa Blues Fest. My brother dragged the whole family up there, and I heard Dawes play this song. Good times.
It's so refreshing when the lyrics to a song demand attention
Most People... don't film their music videos in Minneapolis, glad you did Dawes!! Great song and video
This song plays everyday at my work. It's a good song.
I heard them live in the foro sol of Mexico City, they opened The Killers concert there and I liked it. They gave EVERYTHING they had in their hearts in that performance. I whish you the best
Love that they included some shots from Forecastle. Hooray Louisville!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed :-)

On my way to their show tonight. Tenth anniversary of this album!

Only new music which really sticks with me of late!
The best Jackson Browne song with no Jackson Browne in it!
My newfound love is this band.
Dawes is most likely the most significant band of the first decade of the new millennium .....
This is wonderful. Very luck to have seen y'all twice in Utah.
So Beautiful. Lyrically and Musically
This is a Grammy winner for sure! Great job...
Cheers to The Dawes, I'd like to shake his hand one day - he wrote words so deep that they reached into my soul rocking pain away.

MOST PEOPLE like this video.
I've been a fan since the beginning. Great work.
The singer looks likes he's an awesome dude. I love this song.
Shame you aren't over near Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area, they're going to be in Iowa City on Oct 1st. Already got my ticket :p
This reminds me of Jackson Browne

Jackson Browne did back up vocals on "Fire Away" Seems he agrees with you
yes!! absolutely!!!
Right on. Really resonates with me.
Amazing. Simply amazing.
one of my new fave bands this year! there sound is amazing, and reminds me of the 70's and my childhood!
Great song..reminds me of Stephen Stills
Love these guys, they signed my bass
Much of the video filmed right here in Asheville, NC at The Orange Peel, one of the best music venues in the country!
It's Dawes....what's not to like?

Amazing! I love Dawes!
Came Cause Of Vsause Stayed After That Harmonic That Just Sold Me
Awesome song !
If she listens very carefully to a room of conversation
She can feel the planet orbiting through space
She hears pieces of arguments, beginnings of jokes
And the odd lines of a song she cannot place
And it all makes up an image that resists interpretation
Which is lately how she likes to see herself
How she does not believe in accidents, doesn't disagree out loud
And falls in love with every man she cannot help
And she thinks "Most people don't talk enough about how lucky they are
Most people don't know what it takes for me to get through the day
Most people don't talk enough about the love in their hearts"
But she doesn't know most people feel that same way
If she focuses her energies on just walking through the neighborhood
With depths and shallows nobody could sound
Like January Christmas lights under billion year old stars
She comes up with more of what is lost than what is found
So by the time that she explains to me just a glimpse of what she's understood
She betrays the meaning putting it in words
So she smiles at me lovingly and says, "just let me hold your hand
So far it's the only way I can let myself be heard"
And she thinks "Most people don't talk enough about how lucky they are
Most people don't know what it takes for me to get through the day
Most people don't talk enough about the love in their hearts"
But she doesn't know most people feel that same way
And she thinks "Most people don't talk enough about how lucky they are
Most people don't know what it takes for me to get through the day
Most people don't talk enough about the love in their hearts"
But she doesn't know most people feel that same way
And she thinks "Most people don't talk enough about how lucky they are
Most people don't know what it takes for me to get through the day
Most people don't talk enough about the love in their hearts"
But she doesn't know most people feel that same way
Yup, those r the lyrics
Awesome song. I hear a tinge of Rick Davies and of course the originality of Dawes' folksiness.
Amazing song, love it!
They're even better live...
Most people feel that same way
awesome!

Lovely
Very positive song I like it
Damn good band
THIS song reminds me of Jackson Browne.
RIGHT!? this band as a whole does remind me of Jackson Browne!
the Dawes actually played along side of Jackson browne at a few shows
Many of them do ...
yeah, it also reminds me of Jason Borne the special agent, who lost his memory, just loved that movie.
Jerry the Grape Catcher at :40 seconds! I talked to him in Birmingham and Memphis (10/20 & 10/22 2013). Super great person!
Second song I've heard from them! I'm really enjoying this band. Any other song recommendations??
From a window seat
"Time Spent In Los Angeles"
Am I the only one who feels like this song is hauntingly reminiscent of CSN?
so damn good
Love this song!! :)
