So happy to hear from a foreigner how beautiful the mountain views are here in Baguio. We hope this will bring more realizations to greedy politicians, those who aim to develope the city by bringing in realtors building more houses and buildings that will soon erase the beautiful mountain views. We don’t need any more buildings, we need more trees.
Enjoying your trip to Baguio! I was stationed at Clark AB there in the Philippines 86 to 91. Camp John Hay was an Air base primarily for recreation. As a cop I was able to do temporary duty there a few times. It's changed alot though. Made it a civilian resort area. Nights are cool there but nice. Take care and Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed your stay. If you think the Mountain views in the city are beautiful, then you are in for a wonderful surprise if you go to the municipalities around and surrounding the city. For instance in Atok and all along the road leading to the neighboring province, literally called Mountain Province, are breathtaking views of mountains, valleys and clouds. Be warned though the temperature there can be cold. Its not uncommon for the temperature there to drop to the the single digits. (And I'm referring to them in degrees Celsius by the way for you out there accustomed to Fahrenheit) In fact the temperature there gets so cold, during certain times of the year, that frost starts to form. So pack your jackets if ever you plan on visiting there. Anyway wish you God speed and happy trails. 😁👍
Great job, Marshall, people think the Philippines are all about tropical beaches, Luzon and the capital are overlooked except by locals like me, there are cold places here too!
You came a long way Mr Butters! I’m glad your channel is growing. I remember you only had 267 subscribers back then. Keep up the good work sir. Stay safe!
I miss Baguio. I stayed there from 2009 to 2018. It's nice to see the places I used to visit before in your vlogs. Hoping to return there after my studies abroad. Enjoy!
Greetings from Hobart I'm loving your adventures of Baguio looks a similar climate to here. Your body must be in a little shock moving from the heat of Manila to Baguio.
Sorry for being nosey here. The name Hobart grabbed my attention. I studied in UTAS sandy bay campus 12 years ago. Lovely city and lovely people. Thank you for bringing back beautiful memories ❤
The extraordinary view of mountains you saw from CJH actually are mountains of Itogon municipality, south of Benguet Province. It is the mining district developed by the Americans in 1905. Indigenous peoples are still doing small-scale mining and two large-scale mine continue to operate.
There's a tour for mining... Forgot the name... You go inside the mining facility... See where they process the gold ores they mined. Then they tour you inside the tunnels... Was fun but scary at the same time. This was way back 90s... Dunno if they still do it.
Other vloggers have gone to Baguio but they haven't taken me to as many places there as you have Marshall. Camp John Hay reminds me of Yosemite and Lake Tahoe here in California.
Hi Marshall. Hope one day you can stay in Camp John Hay and really tell us what it is like, Love the tour. Views in Baguio are one of a kind. Cheers from UK.
There's another secret garden in Camp John Hay at Bell House but is not a restaurant. Nothing to see there really. Very nice to see you enjoying. Mabuhay! No grab taxi here as people do not use the Grab App for a cab, only for Grabfood. God bless
Hmmm youre having a great time dining and discovering the city! Yah!whats a day in Baguio Without a hill just to have your mission accomplished finding Gene's painting!
Thank you Marshall! I haven't been to Baguio since my childhood days before Mount Pinatubo erupted....And I don't recall ever going to Camp John Hay. It's so much like Subic and the USA, where I'm originally from. I can't wait to go.....
"What's a day in Baguio without a hill?" hahaha! That's pretty much our daily thing...walking up and down hills. Also, the way to Manor from techno hub is not a 5-min walk.
Camp John Hay used to be a US Military Base it serves as an RnR for US DOD Civilians and US Forces in Philippines back in 70s to 90s The Facility was handed over to the Philippine Government back in 1990s from what I remember the remaining US Facility within The John Hay Area is the American Residences which is like near more uphill part of the Old Camp but I’m afraid you can’t go there since it’s a US Government Property and Regular Civilians are not allowed unless they have a special permit or some sort. Nice video by the way :)) stay safe Marshall!
Good content Sir Marshall. I ve been To Baguio twice but I havent got the chance to see Manor hotel..it looks nice especially their decoration during christmas. Have you been to Diplomat hotel there? During your stay in Baguio. .. more power..and more travel to Share.
I live in Baguio City just located below Manor but i keep watching your Vlogs :-) Thank you for appreciating our city, there's more to explore next time :-)
Have you've been there long enough or has someone told you how much Baguio changed after the big earthquake in the early 90s? How is the landscape different?
That secret garden looks very nice & relaxing and Camp John Hay certainly has changed for the better since last time i was there (back in mid-90s); I saw a sign (IHG - Int'l. Hotels Group) earlier in the video as you were entering the camp; i wonder if they are professionally managing the camp? 19K already...20K coming in fast! Congrats & stay safe, Marshall!
IHG -International Hotels group that was in the video is one of the Corporate Inhouse Call center of IHG they are not the one managing the John Hay, they are just one of the tenants of the property. So one IHG center is located here in Baguio at Camp John Hay and the other center is in Manila. Im a former employee of IHG Baguio 😍
If you wish to see some gorgeous mountain view, next time you come back sir, i recommend you to go to mines view, to Mt. Cabuyao, or to Diplomat Hotel. I promise you will definitely love it. 😃😃😃
I stumble into your vlog few days ago i enjoy watching your vlog touring Baguio City that I never visited for many years. My hometown just 1 hour and 30 mins away from Baguio city. I may visit once i go back to phils your new subscriber Thanks marshall for touring me to Baguio City.
If only there wasn’t an ongoing pandemic you would’ve enjoyed and made most out of your stay there in Baguio, but its good to see that my home town has been of interest to you and other Vloggers as well. If time permits I hope that you’ll visit Baguio again and experience it’s beautiful at the fullest. This made me miss Baguio so much more.
Visit mines view park and catch the sunrise there. Try hiking to mount yangbew and mt kalugong in La Trinidad. Try some good eats at Arca's yard, too. Go further in Atok, too! The further away you go, the more spectacular mountain views. Thanks for visiting our city!
Enjoying your tour vlogs in the Philippines. You should probably requested for a tour with the hotel. Probably they do provide a small tour so we could also learn a lot from that place and the place will be promoted at the same time. It could attract more tourists. Great vlog. Always stay safe!
Stayed in Baguio City first sixteen years of my life, stayed in Abanao St. then at Session Rd. Studied in St. Louis College graduated high school in 1962. Most of my schoolmates and childhood friends are from Scout Barrio just near Camp John Hay I miss them so especially the best among them George Alvarez and Floyd Zaguirre and yes also Ed Maranan. It's been so long as i am now 75 yrs. of age residing in Metropolitan Manila.
Its A amazing adventure! Not crowded though.👋😀👍💪❤️ You can walk there everyday with A peaceful and pleasant ambiance. 🌞💪❤️😘 Take good care. OVERJOYED your journey Sir!
Go further north and see the rice terraces. The roads and the views leading up to the mountains are pretty spectacular are an experience all by themselves. Btw, the steaks and burger at The Manor restaurant (ground floor) in Camp John Hay are worth every penny.
I just found you on my feed today. I clicked on it cos you very rarely find vloggers vlogging about Baguio or any of our beautiful mountain areas. Mostly it's about our beaches. Thank you for sharing. It's been a while since I visited the north! Love your content. May I suggest you rent a bike while you're on hilly Baguio or Benguet area, the hills make the walk triple the distance.
I have stayed at The Manor at least five times but it was only through your vlog that I realized that I haven't really explored the gardens. There are a lot of other places worth checking out at CJH but you could head there next time. It's quite tiring to go on foot. Anyway, the Secret Garden is one of the must visit restos in Baguio so it's good that you got to eat there. Another nice one is Tsokolate de batirol at CJH.
That Seafood pasta al pesto looks like homemade pappardelle . Anything that wide is not sold commercially ; hope it waa nice n rich!!! Thank you for taking the extra mile to view my mural “ The Flight of Food”!!!at the Forest Lodge in Camp John Hay Manor!!!
I’m doing a marathon of your Baguio trip and from someone who grew up there but haven’t been in years, i say your vlog gives a nostalgic feeling. Camp John Hay is a big place and you will have to walk a kilometre or two from the hub spot they dropped you off to get to the Manor. Too late now but for those who are interested to go there you will want to specifically say Manor Camp John Hay otherwise they will just assume you’re going there for the hub spot.
and be prepared for a lot of walking. from the last time I’ve been there, it’s never that simple to get a ride. Baguio City is located on mountain tops so expect a lot of stairs or walking up hills 😂
Our usual itinerary since I have kids, climb on a Friday. Wright Park for kids horseback riding. Buy pasalubong at Good Shepherd. Tour Mines View Park, Mansion, Camp John Hay. Next day visit PMA though they are close due to C19. Burnham Park. Bencab Museum, Strawberry Farm. Sunday mass, Baguio Market. Get Raisin Bread pasalubong.
tweet: Well done Mr. Marshall, you made it all the way to the upper north part of the country -- Mt. Ifugao. The weather is usually much cooler in the summit; especially in winter -- Dec - January. Good to see you back strolling around Camp John Hay Park -- known once as a favorite place for golfers. Enjoy the rest of your vacation. be blessed. jan2022.
So glad you're enjoying you Baguio stay. It's my hometown though am away for the week. Wished I had known earlier that you'd be visiting as driving you around would have been a pleasure. Maybe your next Baguio visit could be sometime in the middle of the year, the so called "summer" months. It would be a great break from the hot weather of the lowlands.
Hello Sir. Just discover your vlog especially about Baguio. I love watching it as my guide when I visit there hopefully when pandemic is over. By the way from what country are you, and how long you've been going around in the Philippines?
