    When you said Passamaquoddy I thought of Pete's Dragon the original movie. Love everything you're working on and very pretty new yarns. ✨️

      Thanks for stopping by- Passamaquoddy is not a word that many people know outside of NB- it does conjure images for me. Happy knitting!

    I love the title of this episode! I’ve been having some crazy life stuff happen lately with lots of hospital and waiting room time to knit - this whole episode just really resonated with me. Thank you! Lovely to see some commercial and Canadian based yarns for when you just need something nice and easy to keep calm and knit on! 😊

    Hi. My name is Audrey and I live in southern Ontario. This is the first time I have watched you. I enjoyed knitting as we chatted. A few years ago I went to Nova Scotia with a friend, and driving through New Brunswick, I was amazed at how many trees there are. I hope that I get to visit Mary Maxim in Paris, as I now have family recently moved there. Without a car, I rely on GO transit, which will get me to Waterloo and no further. 😮 I am 72 years old and have been knitting and crocheting for well over 50 years now. I work on something every time I sit down. I don’t think that I can sit without working on a project as I do. I loved seeing your acquisitions. My Mum died 5 months ago and to help me cope, I have been purchasing yarn like crazy. Mum taught me to knit and crochet. She must have made a dozen Mary Maxim jackets, lined most of them and attached a zipper. Mine was Ramblin’ Rose. My dream is to knit that pattern again for myself as mine, when I was 10, met with disaster in the wash. I don’t know who was more upset, me or my Mum. I can hardly wait to catch your next video. God bless you. Audrey. ❤️🇨🇦🧶

      Thanks so much for stopping by. I am glad you enjoyed our visit. I agree public transportation does not make it easy. You need a knitting friend who lives close who also wants to do a road trip. I have a group of ladies locally who road trip for various festivals and yarn sales etc. Some don't drive, some don't drive long distances so a couple of us just load up our cars and go.
      Happy New Year!

    I know you’ll understand when I say that “real life” got in the way of my knitting and podcast watching. BUT I’m back. Loved catching up with your episodes - 1 more after I finish this one. I loved the variety of all your finished projects, your WIPs, as well as all your yarny talk about things you received and/or purchased. I’m busy on knitting on some of the socks I give to various charities. I use lots of true “work-horse” commercial yarns and knit plain ribbed socks - works a charm every time. I’m off to watch your lates video. Thanks for making these videos of our enjoyment. Salam wa sa’aadah

    This is the first time I've watched your podcast. It came up in my feed but yes, I did get the feeling of listening to a friend. Very cozy podcast that I very much enjoyed. I've never knit anything Steven West, but wow that shawl looks amazing. The headband was also really cool. Yep, if I was stuck in the airport and had coffee, a podcast to listen to, a knit or crochet project and/or a book, I'd be good!

    I learned a long time ago to grab an end of the yarn. Give it a tug on the end. If it breaks fairly easy, it’s wool. 👍

    • @thefrontporchknitter8112
      @thefrontporchknitter8112  ปีที่แล้ว

      That works for most things- however, if it is a silk mohair blend the silk would be quite strong. Because it is so squeaky ( is that a thing?) I suspect if it is mohair that it may be with a nylon thread. Thanks so much for stopping by.

      Thanks for stopping by. I think that tools are important but as all things in life- buy the best you can afford. Our craft is one that does not have to be costly. some of my DPN's came from a local dollar store and I have quite a few fixed circulars that came from charity shops.

    I’m so Jealous!!! Yarn It! In Cobourg is my LYS (even though I have to travel 30 mins to get there). I wasn’t able to get to the grand re-opening because life got in the way. Love the Soeurs au Laine that you got! I won’t let myself stop at The Knitting Loft when I go through Toronto, I’m afraid what I might allow myself to buy 😂

    • @thefrontporchknitter8112
      @thefrontporchknitter8112  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My LYS is 30+ minutes away too- that is why it is so much fun to stop at other shops along the way. Costco and yarn shops are dangerous for me.

    Looking at my finished loveseat skirt and my simple shawl which is 3/4 way done. The two projects I’ve been working on for two months. 😂 You have a kazillion lovely finished objects and on the needle projects going. Love all your acquisitions too.
    I’m looking forward to some yarn purchases in 2023. I’m proud to say I completed my no buy yarn 2022! Everything I made in 2022 was stash! So I’m really drooling over your acquisitions! Happy New Year!

    • @thefrontporchknitter8112
      @thefrontporchknitter8112  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations on your 'no buy yarn' success.! I would be a failure for sure. Typically my stash is single skeins or sweater quantities that I have taken a skein or two from to make other projects, making the remaining quantity hard to use up. Happy New Year!

      @@thefrontporchknitter8112 never a fail! I too love to buy yarn and simply wondered if I could do it. It wasn’t a hard rule but it encouraged me to check my stash and I found so much lovely yarn I had forgotten about!

    Cottage crafts yarn is milled at Briggs and Little. The yarn weight is dura sport 100 percent wool. One of the colours you held up was fundy fog not sure on the mustard colour. Love your podcast.
    Another yarn store to check out in NB is Brigadoon fibre farm in Blissville about 30 minutes from Fredericton

    • @thefrontporchknitter8112
      @thefrontporchknitter8112  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Angela! I think I assumed it was milled at B&L just from working with it. I know where Blissville is so that sounds like a nice little drive on one of my adventures. So glad that you could stop by.

    I looked at your comments and don’t see the pattern for the hats and socks. Did I overlook them!

    • @thefrontporchknitter8112
      @thefrontporchknitter8112  ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably my error! Thanks for the catch. The socks are mostly a vanilla out of my head standard sock so no particular pattern. The hats were a free pattern from Purl Soho- www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/classic-cuffed-hat. I will correct the notes also.

  • @roxeyserckie5414
    @roxeyserckie5414 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do you suggest to get started knitting socks with no knowledge of "how to"?

    • @thefrontporchknitter8112
      @thefrontporchknitter8112  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roxey. There are some great patterns for newbies this is the one I recommend: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rye-4. Tin Can Knits do a great job of itemizing the steps. I also suggest worsted weight as it will make it easier to learn the skills than fingering. They end up being more 'house sock' but perfect to learn on. As I said in the video- figure out which type of small circumference needles you prefer and go for it- they are not really all that scary.

  • @melissalampman7214

    Hi, could you tell me what weight you think Briggs and little heritage and regal are, they say they are the same weight, but I know regal is thinner....,what do you think, I have a tone of it,and I am appreciating it again, I always wove with it, but now I am into knitting and want to knit with it, do you think regal is dk,and heritage is Aran?thanks,Melissa.

    • @thefrontporchknitter8112
      @thefrontporchknitter8112  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think of Regal as a heavy DK or light worsted and I just did some math and comparison and the charts agree with me. Heritage is a medium weight worsted and the Aran is a heavier worsted. I always swatch since many of the yarn weights are a range not a precise number. The B&L yarns really bloom when blocked so keep that in mind as well.

    • @melissalampman7214
      @melissalampman7214 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I am excited to be excited about Briggs and little,as it is the yarn I have used the most! Just not in knitting I did knit a baby sweater years ago,with way too long sleeves,but excited to try knitting with it. I want to try the thumbed mitts,maybe for next Christmas,I have the pattern from them. Take care,Melissa.
