Korean Bhai your friend was wrong about Eid. Sacrificing animal doesn't wipe out any sin, donating food/clothes/money to less fortunate is a good deed in Islam. If any non Muslim takes their shahada/accept Islam at that time their all previous sins are wiped out. But after that we'll be accountable for every sins and good deeds. Hope you'll find it helpful!

And moreover those who are poor who cannot buy meat at the price of meat can also eat meat. And on Eid-ul-Fitr, those who are rich help the poor with money, clothes, food, which is said in Islam. Islam is a religion that spreads love and happiness through festivals and encourages making sure your relatives and neighbors are well. And helping the poor is repeatedly said. Allah will reward those who do charity, sacrifice and other good deeds with a pure heart. Donating will reduce the problems of the poor and those who are poor cannot eat good things all the time so they have nutritional deficiencies and meat has many nutrients which fill up their nutritional deficiencies. I request those who think animal sacrifice is cruelness to think properly and you will find logic in the whole system.

Background of Khubani. Khubani tradition started with prophet Abraham (Ibrahim ASM). When he was commanded by God (Allah) to sacrifice his beloved son by the name of God to show his will, devotion and resolve towards God. When Prophet Abraham was ready to sacrifice his son arch angel Gabriel (Zabriel in Islam) appeared and told him to stop. Instead, a white lamb appeared on top of the mountain and both father and son sacrificed the lamb. Some Christians believes sacrifice is already done and we have no need for sacrifices. Other Christians believes Jesus (Isa ASM) was sacrificed so no need for any sacrifices. In Islamic tradition Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did animal sacrifices mainly lambs. There is a strict rule regarding animal sacrifice in Islam. Rules are (1). If animal don't want to be slaughtered, you have to let it go. Try next year and year after another. Let the animal go free for good. (2). You have to be humane not to hurt the animal. (3) Best way without pain should be considered and animals must have flexibilities. (4). Animal should not know that it will be slaughtered. (5). Aggressive behaviors not permitted. (6). Cannot slaughter multiple animals in one place where animal will be scared. (6). You cannot show another animal slaughtered and cannot show knives. (7). Animal should be calm. (8). Ritual sacrifices should be done in 2 and 1/2 strokes meaning in less than 2 1/2 seconds by trained individuals. If you use more or take more time than the sacrifice becomes haram. Islam stipulates that we have no right to take any one's lives. It permits only to consume to survive but in a humane way. If you don't follow the above rules than the sacrifice is not accepted by God (Allah). It becomes haram. In Bangladesh commercial chickens are slaughtered in humane way. Hopefully one day they will do to other animals. God bless.
Some people explained eid ul azha (kurbani) beautifully. Kurbani is not related to sin. It’s just a good deed. The purpose of it to remind ourselves that we are sacrificing animal for pleasing Allah when necessary we will also sacrifice our lives. Our sin is only removed when we sincerely apology to allah for that sin and made promise not to do the same ever again. If we sincere enough allah may accept our apology and remove the sin.
