  • Another day and another time being told not to film in China -
    WAY more politely this time. The Chinese police here were actually very cool - not like the fireman who was more on the rude side just a day before
    Today we're checking out Wuhan's Police Museum plus heading to Qintai for a story of a great lute player

    My wife had exactly the same problem. When we moved to France she had to register herself at a police station and all the formalities were done in French which she couldn't understand at the time and I wasn't allowed to be there to translate. It was a bit of a bureaucratic nightmare.

    • @TwoCentsOnTour
      @TwoCentsOnTour  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      France do that too eh? Yeah it's not really the first thing on your mind when jetlagged and trying to find your way around - but it has to be done.... Or else 😅

    • @peteruren2050
      @peteruren2050 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was only just the beginning of it! After that she had to “integrated” OK! Brainwashed by the French state, but nicely so with the finest Savon de Marseille that left her synapses feeling squeaky clean and French.
      She had to go to courses about how awesome France is, language courses, republican values courses, have a full medical where she had to strip naked and finally she had to sign the republican contract saying that she would adhere to the values of the French Republic. France can be like an intense overbearing parent sometimes. But almost ten years on she has a shiny French passport and because she's American, most importantly FREE HEALTHCARE! (OK it's not completely free but just a small deduction from your paycheck for complete coverage).

    • @TwoCentsOnTour
      @TwoCentsOnTour  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lol man that does sound pretty intense! I also had a medical before my China trip, but I don't remember getting naked (maybe I just blocked that out 😅)
      That being said becoming Chinese is virtually impossible for foreigners, so at least France has that door open - even if there are a lot of boxes to tick
      And yeah woo-hoo for free healthcare! My old man had leukemia years ago and would certainly not be here today without that healthcare

    • @peteruren2050
      @peteruren2050 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah treatment for leukemia in the US would be enough to bankrupt most people. Glad Gazza got over it, the other channel wouldn't be the same without him.

    I'm a big Ireland and Leinster rugby fan who happens to be thinking of moving to China for work next year. I've been enjoying your rugby content for a while and now bizarrely it seems you've got me sorted for China vlogs too! Seeing you walking around China in a Leinster jersey is the cherry on top :) keep up the good work.

    Same in Turkey, mate, though they are less time conscious. On one occasion, I went down the population bureau, and the clerks were useless. In the end I asked one of the polce there to take me to the manager. She was a pleasant, middle aged lady. I said,"Your staff don't know what they are doing." She smiled and replied,"You're telling me??"

    nice non-touristy tourism video, going where locals go and not tourists. Really like it. Spotting the bird spotters
    sporting the leinster colours again ... no wonder they did not let you film
    funny that most countries have these rules. Most of the times we are not aware of this, as people stay in hotels and the hotel does it for you. The problem is if you do not stay in a hotel, then that is when you are suppose to know where to register and how soon. You only make that mistake once though not to find out.

    • @TwoCentsOnTour
      @TwoCentsOnTour  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah man there were only a handful of other visitors to the Police Museum and nobody was feeling chatty - maybe it was the Leinster colours 😅
      But yeah exactly right - staying in a hotel you don't even think about the police registration thing, but working or staying with relatives it's one of those jobs you need to get done while feeling jetlagged and would rather be anywhere else 😅

    I've been to China a couple of times, 2010 and 2017, stayed about 6 weeks both times and spent time in 2 major cities and a few smaller towns... I remember seeing a sign advising that foreigners needed to register but was told not to bother and I never had a problem... I'm planning to go back sometime next year and now I'm worried lol... any thoughts on how much tourists need to worry about this? It's seems impractical/unenforceable/a logistical nightmare that every single tourist that visits China would be expected to visit the local police station of every city they stay in but yeah, keen to hear your thoughts.

    I’m thinking of starting my own travel channel soon, I was wondering what filming setup you use? The audio quality is pretty good too. Do you use an additional microphone? How long can you film for before the battery dies or memory runs out? Thanks man!

    • @TwoCentsOnTour
      @TwoCentsOnTour  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey nice one man! This is just the inbuilt mic on my old GoPro which does alright. I took three batteries with me but most times I only needed two on a given day. I did buy a wind cover for the camera because I wanted to turn off the auto wind reduction setting. I was using a 128gb card and never ran out of space - but I was filming in 1080p rather than 4k

Most Chinese, unlike myself would not pay any attention to this type of statements, because they are already indifferent to Western smears, or are culturally too polite to make a statement. I am not trying to pick a fight here, but there are other ways to attract viewers to your vids.. these type of statements simply attract a large audience of "haters".

      @@hclau218 well man yeah the Western media definitely does a pretty awful portrayal of China. Sadly most of the TH-cam content I see here doesn't help that because it is very polarised - either saying China is paradise or hell on earth.
      Part of me starting this channel was to try and show a bit more balance. I definitely have my own biases, but I think I have a knack for calling things down the middle (sorry if I'm blowing my own trumpet here). I've had quite a few comments saying "I thought China was *blah blah bad stuff*, but it actually looks nothing like that" - which hopefully means I'm doing my job.
      If one person clicks on this video thinking it's gonna confirm what the media has told them about China - and comes away at the end of the video with questions for the mainstream narrative - then I'll take that
