Definitely the best rendition of this tune on TH-cam to date. Played so expressively and beautifully arranged. I am learning to play this on a Wheatstone English Concertina and this has inspired me to try to recreate the emotion I feel when I listen to this version. Thank you so much for posting. Lovely. . . . and doesn't it just bring back the memories of the early seventies for me. Out lobster fishing in an open boat, plying the south coast between Kildonan and Lagg. Sometimes venturing as far Blackwatersfoot. Aye, Twin Crawford of Bennan Head was a hard taskmaster so he was, but his local knowledge and the ways of it could not be bettered.
In the late 80s I would stay up late Sunday night and tape-record a Celtic radio show that came on in the Dallas area. This song was on the playlist once. I loved the darker, moodier Celtic music. This was one of the first songs I learned on my D pennywhistle.
I don't see this album or tracks on iTunes. Someone should ask Phil if it could be released digitally. I've just acquired a digitizing turntable and will convert my vinyl copy. Silly Wizard's "Live in America" really needs to be heard too. RIP Johnny.
No - Arran is an island off the South West coast of Scotland. The Aran Islands (note the different spelling) are a group of three islands in Galway Bay.
@@tullochgorum6323 Oh, so it is part of Ireland. Well, thanks this is good to have straightened out. And Inisheer is part of these islands, yes? I have made a mini set on the whistle of Aran Boat and Inisheer and want to be sure they belong together.
@@soslothful Nope - you're still misunderstanding! Arran is a Scottish island. The Arran Boat Song is an air that's a lovely example of the West-Scotland Gaelic tradition. This is related to Irish Gaelic music, but has its own distinctive character.
@@tullochgorum6323 Ah. One r in Aran and Ireland. The tunes fit nicely musically, if not geographically. "Skye Boat" might be a nice addition. Are you in Scotland?

Are the Arran Island claimed by both Scotland and Ireland? I cannot recall the source, but it is my understanding there is some dispute.
