TROUT FISHING MISSOURI: CATCH OF A LIFETIME!! BIGGEST BROWN EVER(Fly Fishing Current River Missouri)

  • Folks.. I have been fishing this river on and off for over half of my life.. This is where I cut my teeth learning how to fly fish.. I have always seen pictures of big fish coming out of the Current River, but I have never hooked into one. This is one of the bigger spring fed rivers here in Missouri and it can be a big fish factory. Today the water was high and running with a slight stain. Thunderstorms hit all of Missouri hard earlier in the week and I was afraid it would make for tough fishing. I managed to park at the Montauk State Park camping area at the end of the trout park. I was the first angler on the water as the steam was still rolling through the humid air. I warmed up with a few trout park escapees before I hooked into this absolute monster. When this fish hit, I knew immediately it was a monster. This fish fought me hard and had me running up and down the river. Needless to say, when this fish hit the net, I was absolutely shaking.

    Gorgeous butter belly! People think that you have to head west to get into big fish and while the Taylor in CO and the Clark's Fork might be a religious fishing experience, Southern MO can produce massive fish and be just as fun with consistent action.

    I live 10 minutes from the Current.. Beautiful country. Best Brown I've ever seen was on the White River going into Arkansas. A guy canoes up and says " I had a really bad day going when I woke up. I found out my teenage daughter was pregnant. I didn't know what to think after she left, so I came out here" He then pulls out the Brown of a lifetime. It was much much larger than yours. ( not putting yours down by any means ) I believe in CAR but don't blame him one single bit for having that one mounted. It was an absolute monster that made a guys day go from bad to good!! Gotta love these waters in Southeast Mo. Nice catch man!!

    Great fish...I have not fished down there in many years. About 15. Used to live in Mo...Here's a tip...Fish up from Cedar Grove way down below the park...in the late summer to fall at night with crayfish patterns. Or days time with hoppers. Getting up say at 3 am and fishing into the sun coming up...be safe..make sure a storm is not coming on. Um...there used to be times I got very lucky and caught a few lunkers...Ya make me want to take a trip...I hardly fish anymore. Shameful...good job gettin it in.

    • @FLYALLSZN
      @FLYALLSZN  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @loellamarre8388

      @@FLYALLSZN do you tie? Here is my crayfish pattern. Get a gray grizzly rabbit pelt..dye it RIT golden yellow. Use these for pinchers. Get brown and golden yellow craft acrylic yarn. Tie on size 4 or 6 200r tiemco. Rap lead then put strip of lead along that on back of hook. Ride upside down. Take some the yarn that is lighter color into bits to make dubbing from it. Then take a good 5 to 6 inches of 2 of each color to make carapace. Tying it upside down going a back for thorax. Double back towards hook point direction. Then 3 to 4 times in smaller fashion to do the tail. As you add the dubbing underneath. Optional is pheasant tail antenna between rabbit pinchers and eyes with twisted fine copper wire and red to brown seed beads as eyes. I don't think the trout notice that at all. One of the main fisheries biologists of mo used mohair leeches for crayfish look alikes...he swore by that

    It's never crowded until others see you catch fish. That's when the lazy people emerge from their cars. Great video especially catching that big brown
