VIFF Masterclass with Ben Wheatley, Director, High-Rise

Vancity Theatrre is delighted to welcome Ben Wheatley to discuss his must-see movie High-Rise and a career that has seen him rise from low-budget independent to one of the most dynamic and exciting filmmakers working in the contemporary film scene. A VIFF favourite, Wheatley has directed five features in just 6 years: Down Terrace (20909), Kill List (2011), Sightseers (2012), A Field in England (2013) and now High-Rise (2015). His debut feature, Down Terrace, was compared to both Mike Leigh and Quentin Tarantino for its singular combination of British domestic comedy and murderous mayhem. He's an acute satirist of English manners and mores, but with a darker vein of intent than Alan Bennett or Leigh, and a more visionary, cinematic bent. Presented by Thunderbird's Soda Pictures Canada, High-Rise screened in a late night preview on April 15th .
