I have a theory but I’m not sure if it’s true… it feels that now football teams are so system oriented, that when an individual injury happens to a key player in that system, it all falls apart. That’s why a lesser “team” that has its system “working” can beat a team of much better “players” that has one or two pivotal players injured.
Teams with mavericks don’t work anymore. Feels like footballers are lost when their system isn’t functioning properly.

Good shout. I think it works both ways as well. You can also say that Brentford, Brighton, Liverpool, etc. (generally speaking) can point to the system being taught to EVERYONE at the club being hugely important to their successes in the last how many years. It's the reason many academy players are able to fill in with some legitimate credit to their names while their top players were out.

I guess the difference between Guardiola and other big Coaches, like Anchelotti or Klopp is that... Guardiola doesn´t know how to lose, this is a guy that is a perfectionist (To a manic degree even) in every single club he went, so... for him having a season in which things aren`t going according to his plan, must be nerve wrecking for him. Man City has reached it's peak when it comes to performance, and now they are going through a bad period, every big club has those.

I’m starting to think Pep will leave City how Fergie left United- A champion. He’ll come back and storm to a title next season; however, he’ll also leave the next manager a squad desperately in need of a rebuild and lacking the financial freedom to sign whomever for whatever moneys given the on-going court matters and the new, more stringent FFP rules in place by UEFA and the English FA. City’s organization is obviously better than that of United- at least in the moment- but it may be a few years until City can properly reclaim the aura and reputation they have enjoyed in recent seasons.

not to mention that replacing him would be an impossible task and whoever does will probably fail as well. I think the reason Slot did so well was because Klopp already did the rebuilding in previous years and this year it wasn't needed, the only question mark was defensive midfield but since that's been dealt with, he has had no significant issues. That will be unlikely to be the case if Guardiola leaves soon

Add to that, Haaland as good as he is, he is a very one dimensional player and City are having to play differently to what they did before Haaland went there and I believe that’s having an effect of things too, with Pep not fully committing to setting up the team to maximise Haaland’s strengths

I have a huge respect for Guardiola, but when you look at the clubs he has managed the players at his disposable, his teams were always going to compete for top honours ( I mean he has never been in position like say Luciano Spalletti was in Napoli whereby bit by bit the club created a championship winning team through shrewd signings).
The fact of the matter is the reason why currently City is suffering (as I am sure people in this comment section have pointed out) is that players are getting old and they haven't refreshed the squad. But the most important factor is Rodri's injury.
Most people (including myself until this season) just didn't know how important Rodri is to City in terms of stats (City with Rodri only lose 2.6% of games and without Rodri they lose 33% of games).
For me the idea that City would effectively been considered a one man team is totally incomprehensible, but this current run is proving how crucial player Rodri is.

As a city fan I saw this coming from last season.
    1. The recruitment: since 17/18 it feels like they signing players for the sake of they don’t fit the system. The moment they don’t get their target player they panic buy . Last season pep was complaining about Rodri playing a lot of minutes and they didn’t sign a replacement that fits his role. Letting players go without signing their replacements. E.g Alvarez
    2. Playing style: When KDB is in the squad he is all about transition while he is not there the players are more possession oriented. Players not overlapping when the team is attacking. Wingers find themselves in 2v1 situations. They can’t press players
    3. Pep being stubborn . Players are playing more games both nationally and at club level. Yet he wants to run these guys into the ground when they are jaded by having a limited squad and also not making subs 😂😂

Man City should have 2 players in every position ready to step in, with 3 “extra” players so say an extra CB, extra CM and an extra versatile forward player and should really be rotating so players get game time and other rest, keeping everyone as sharp as possible but they don’t do that.

Guardiola turns up his nose at players that the other 19 EPL managers would be eager to "fall back" on when things get difficult. Pusey and Wilson-Esbrand are the kind of players Jurgen Klopp has won cups with against big clubs.
Pep is a great manager, but he has weaknesses, weaknesses that he has no coping skills for except to write a lot of big checks. That narrative is never going away because it is simply true, and this crises is a big reminder in bright bold letters.

this is the hangover from the treble setting in, txiki & recruitment failed to sign any top players save for gvardiol, doku, and potentially nunes/savio. interesting take on saying that pep was trying to focus on the attack, as it seems pep’s biggest weakness has been figuring out his defense without ruben, ake, stones, and walker fit for a few games. the attack has mostly been filling holes with formerly reliable ball-carriers, but no kdb also caused a big issue with creativity like u mentioned. pep should take some notes from u lowkey, great analysis

Only issue is injuries. Ok I guess but that’s not the only issues. I mean if he could just say like yes we are going to focus on reducing turn overs. That would be more comforting lol. Common city. When Liverpool won the title under Klopp, City fans were making excuses about the Laporte injury. Two injuries (Laporte and Mendy) and Guardiola's literal >350M pound cupboard of defenders is bare? Keep in mind that 350M is the ballpark nominal median value of a PL club.
Rival fans joked: "Do not worry; Pep will spend 150M to fix the problem!". What happened? Pep spent 150M to fix the problem.
At Anfield this Sunday, there was a 100M fee player sitting on the bench. Is that really an injury crisis? And with KdB, Silva, Gundogan all looking long in the tooth, wouldn't it be wise to give Kalvin Phillips another chance? Guardiola turns up his nose at players the other 19 PL managers would be eager to put on the pitch.

I think it's rather simple. And I think most people are overlooking this. Before Pep could threaten players and be stubborn because they had the players to step in and take their place. Now he can't do that. What do you do when your top player is outta form and the backup is outta form too or just isn't good enough? Or what about when he falls out with the clear best player and he has the play the guy who can't tie his boots? That's what's happening at City right now. This squad isn't as strong as it used to be.

The fact that this season many players seem to be "off" and lack hunger cannot be attributed to Guardiola. It is down to the players that after so much success, have lost hunger and focus. The solution here is "simple": Out at the end of the season and bring in new younger hungrier players. Txiki and his replacement, Hugo Viana have a lot of work to do in this regard. And depending how well they do it, it will determine if Mancity will remain at the top or it will drop down the ranks and lead to Pep leaving eventually putting a end to a golden era in ManCity history.

My impression is that various interconnected factors have arisen simultaneously, particularly in relation to risk assessment, unintended consequences, and unforeseen circumstances. This ties into your point about operating with a smaller squad, which has historically proven effective. A smaller squad can create a better balance, minimizing the number of players who may feel underutilized or dissatisfied. When there’s a conversation about players like Phillips not receiving opportunities, it's essential to recognize that chances are extended based on performance merit. One should examine the data to determine if he is currently exhibiting performance that warrants being selected. Moreover, who could have anticipated his sudden decline? This aspect is crucial to the narrative, as he was a significant investment for the club, and it’s fair to say few believed that signing would have negative repercussions-many even expressed envy at the acquisition.
When analyzing the data regarding the impact of key factors such as sports science, it's notable that Premier League clubs often face different challenges compared to other top UEFA leagues. Despite their advantages, those leagues tend to be more forgiving, in part due to a lighter schedule with fewer intense matches. This also helps explain why the Premier League has not been as successful in the Champions League; increased travel, a demanding fixture list, and intense minutes can lead to player fatigue over time. Both Pep and Klopp have infused a high work rate into their teams that, while effective, may wear players down if not managed carefully. For example, Liverpool experienced a situation where their midfielders collectively faltered in a single season, leading to significant performance drops. Similarly, it seems some of Manchester City's key players might currently be experiencing their own struggles, particularly in the absence of Rodri.
Additionally, emotional and physical fatigue appear to be increasingly impacting younger players due to the demanding schedule. One reason for Foden's limited appearances may relate to the broader concerns around player burnout, a prevalent issue in England. The cases of Wayne Rooney and Raheem Sterling illustrate how early extensive play can take a toll on athletic performance.
An additional point worth mentioning is the ongoing legal challenges facing the club. These circumstances can affect not only the players’ morale but also the broader strategic outlook of the organization, including Pep's recent contract situation. It seems there may have been intentions from him and Txiki to transition out of their current roles, which did not materialize, complicating their plans and affecting their purchasing strategy last summer, evident in their pursuits for players like Jude Bellingham. The same applies to their interest in Declan Rice. Meanwhile, Nunes has begun to show promise, much to the surprise of many who doubted his initial fit.
The loyalty Pep demonstrates toward his smaller squad, relying on players he trusts, may inadvertently contribute to some players’ challenges. With the high volume of matches, travel, and the intensity of competitions, winning titles has never come easily for Manchester City. Recent victories have required substantial effort and significant emotional investment, as noted by Kevin De Bruyne's candid remarks about the pressures of the season.
Lastly, there are ongoing discussions surrounding Foden's recent placement on the bench, with speculation not suggesting there might be various factors at play. Following his performance with the national team, he faced notable criticism, contrasting sharply with the praise received by Jude Bellingham. While Bellingham is undoubtedly talented, some have noted his less favorable performances relative to the acclaim he received. The pressures surrounding Foden might have a more substantial impact on him given his current circumstances, especially compared to Bellingham, who hasn't faced the same scrutiny due to living outside of England and, consequently, the incessant media attention that often surrounds Premier League players. The comprehensive schedule of Premier League teams complicates not only player management but also exacerbates the difficulties faced by clubs striving to succeed across multiple competitions, highlighting the competitive depth of the league and ultimately placing additional strain on all involved.

    • @prezike6683
      @prezike6683 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

I overlooked mentioning the new Champions League format in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which, as Kevin De Bruyne pointed out, involves an astonishing number of matches that players are required to participate in. This new format is indeed causing challenges for many top clubs, including Real Madrid, which is experiencing its own difficulties.
In the past, teams like Manchester City could navigate a couple of games with less concern, but that is no longer the case. The competition in the Premier League is fiercer than ever, and it's noteworthy that Nottingham Forest is now considered to be at this level-something unthinkable just three seasons ago, highlighting City’s notable decline. This shift is not solely due to their struggles; many talented teams are now led by competent managers who are efficiently running their clubs.
There seems to be a systemic effort to target City through these charges, which could be a strategy to weaken them and facilitate other clubs' chances of winning the league. From the Premier League's perspective, it’s unclear if they ever anticipated facing all 115 charges; it may be seen more as a tactic to tarnish the club’s reputation. It's important to note that while the number feels substantial, scrutinizing the specifics reveals it may not be quite as overwhelming as it appears. Nonetheless, there is concern regarding how this will affect the club's morale and performance, especially amidst ongoing issues related to third-party club ownership and the previous situation with CAS. The continuous upheaval leaves little room for the club to operate with a sense of stability.
Regarding Pep Guardiola's commitment to the club, he previously stated that his contract is "just a piece of paper," a comment made during a U.S. broadcast, potentially by Lee Dixon, which should not necessarily be taken at face value. He often expresses such sentiments for various reasons.
I do not believe he will leave or be dismissed; rather, he is likely trying to assist with the transition. The situation was compounded when United acquired their manager, similar to their previous signings like Sánchez and Fred. It raises the question of whether Omar Berrada had established a relationship with him last season, which may have facilitated the midseason move. This development may have disrupted City’s plans and could account for some of the turmoil related to Pep's previous uncertain departure. However, the specific implications are worth considering.

Love Pep, but his hubris and perhaps even arrogance along with the board and Txiki have really let the team down starting with their poor transfer strategy the past 2 seasons. Yes injuries have been a huge issue, but they’re huge bc Pep, Txiki and the board didn’t take the Rodri issue as seriously as they should’ve. I mean the guy has made public statements for 2 summers now saying how much he needs rest and it fell on deaf ears.
Now with the injuries, Pep seems to making things worse by playing tactics that his available personnel simply cannot execute and yet he persists with it making minor tweaks there and there but the outcome is still the same: failure. I’ve been screaming about our absurdly high backline since he went with a wingback system last season where we were countered down the flanks - especially the right side - by nearly every team we played and conceded 133%+ more goals from counter attacks than the prior season. That should be a red light flashing, but Pep seemed not to care
This season it’s even worse and Pep still continues (based on how he’s played) to not give a fig about fortifying the defense even though we’ve conceded 19 goals in 7 games and have already conceded more than 50% of total conceded PL goals from last season in 13 PL games. Yet Pep still doesn’t seemed concerned which defies logic.
Pep’s slow buildup play which was a hallmark of last season’s tactics, imho, have had a deleterious effect on our attack as well compounding problems even further. Slow buildup allows the opposition to completely reset their shape abs flood the box sucking out all space for Haaland to operate in which makes it even more difficult for him to convert a chance. Likewise, it also makes it more difficult for the rest of the attack to create or score with so many bodies in the way, especially when your attack is short on both G&A.
Yet Pep persists with all of it and wonders why he is losing

City beat Forest by the way. This seems to be the City way as in have a run of bad games then something clicks and they go on a run that no one can explain but just sit back and admire. It’s only half way.

When a guy who has been given everything gets found out from the 1st dip I
In form shows you that he's far from the genius these hacks claim him to be...give him a bang average club to manage and he'd be sacked truly in the morning.

Although it made me click, ironically. It's FAR FROM a decline. everyone who know football, know that a dip will come. What is insane wit City and Pep's teams is how rare it is to happen. Especially like this. But there's are NO mysteries about it!
First.. WHY should he change the formula that have given him 40 trophies? He shouldn't.. This is a dip in form, not a decline. You will loose if you bet on that.
City's dip in form shows how CITY, even with all that money, still is a normal football team that can fall victim to the same things as any team can.
City, like so many teams today, are so very dependent on having the core players fit!
City's offensive players have been spoiled. Cause with Rodri in the team they are able to destroy teams without fear of backlashes. With him out though... it's something we wsee with the top teams. They look frightened.
They are SO VERY refined and well oiled machines. Machines that need every of their core parts to function at the 95-100% needed to be at the very top of their game.
Arsenal have this season been the PRIME example of this. It's insane how different Arsenal was with/without Ødegaard.
With him back they just *click* was back smashing!
CITY ABSOTLUETELY NEED TO get a signing in January (to save the season) or ... be patient, and take this season as learning, and come back next season stronger.
''No way you can't blame it on one or a few players''.. .YEs, you can! Cause for any team in PL now.. If you are just at 90%, which still is VERY good, you can forget abt winning any trophies. Esp the league.. cause to win PL now you need to be stable at 95%, and never drop down under it. You also need to be able to - at will - turn up to 96, 97, 98, 99 or 100 when you need to.
It's just that insane the lvl PL is on now.. You see it even with this seasons form teams too. The ''lesser'' teams.. They are exact same.
Take Brentford and Mbeumo, Brighton with either of Welbeck, but especially Mitoma and Pedro, or Forrest with Chris Wood.
I could add Aston Villa with Watkins. I could name so many teams with their key player/players who make all the difference that they play or not, or do well.
Cause these players are the main ppl in their teams. The kinda player that the team is built around, and when you MISS the very thing you build around.. the foundation isn't as strong.
So... yeah.. Rodri.. Trust me, when he comes back, and get back into his normal self. City will be back to. Though.. I think this is only gonna make City stronger in thee end. Get them more humble, to know that they are not invincible at all, and are humans like everyone else.
