I completely agree. He clearly moved as if he still had pain. I had the same problem and was unable to hip escape, push kick, side kick, and even hitting someone in the belly with my knees was paunful. If he still is that hungry as when he first fought Jones, he could beat Jones now. But the competition has become fierce.

Gus did have a break Chael lol. There was a 11-12 month gap in between his losses to Lionheart (and an 11 month gap after this fight for Smith to fight his next fight as well) and Werdum and not to mention he took that Werdum fight on like 2 weeks notice I don’t think it had anything to do with needing a break lol after he lost to Lionheart Smith he actually announced his retirement and cried then left his gloves in the cage as well. so Gus fighting Werdum made as much sense (even less so) as OSP fighting Rothwell on short notice, the quarantine UFC era in the first few months was pretty “unorganized” compared to regular UFC standards.

I don't really understand his take here, the break between the Lionheart fight and the Werdum fight was over a year, its not even been a year since he fought Werdum which is less of a rest period. Gus is one of my favourite fighters but it seems like lazy rationale to say he's gonna be better because he's had nearly a year off, he already did that and lost.

Gus at heavyweight makes no sense. If you look at him at LHW his biggest struggle was with guys with power (Rumble Johnson). Based on that he doesn’t stand a chance against Derek Lewis or Francis.

Volkov is going to be the next light heavyweight champion. That spinning elbow, he did on Dominick Reyes was one of the most disgusting moves I've ever seen MMA. Gus is coming back too a crazy division.
