    It's great to see the progression of your riding Brent. I'm an Aussie living in California and just bought a BMW R1250GS this year. Have been inspired by your earlier trips on the GS to take that super expensive bike off-road (I also have a dirt bike so have off-road experience) and will probably start with the Idaho BDR. I completely understand the move to the Huskie though, as the GS sure is a big beast. I will retire soon and do lots of trips around the US and Canada (maybe even to Mexico and then to South America), will be interesting to see how long the GS lasts before I too go for a lighter bike ;-)

      I"m loving my 701. Heading out on it again on Wednesday... It is just so much fun to ride.... and that is the difference... The GS bikes are capable and can go many of the places I'll ride the 701, but when you ride the 701, your smile is from ear to ear and you are having fun (vs shitting yourself half the time on the GS).

      @@brentbat That is great to hear. Looking forward to following your rides and updates on the bike. I just got back from one of my local shops and I am pretty sure my next move is the KTM 390 Adventure, which I plan to invest in making a bit more off-road worthy. I love the size and weight of it as a shorter rider and I am impressed with what people have been able to accomplish with it off-road. I looked closely at 690 Enduro/Husqvarna 701 and it came in a close second place. The new KLR, Yamaha Tenere, KTM 790/890 Adventure all felt too big for me.

    Thanks for all the videos Brent. I have enjoyed them very much and learned from them as I mature as a rider. I also bought a husky recently and I am looking at Lynx flairing and wanted to get your feedback after 2 years. Did you experience any buffeting and are you happy with the windscreen ? They are quite pricey and I have not seen much feedback on this so a bit concerned to buy it. Coming from 1250 GSA, I think the wind is a bit too much and looking at solution to get this sorted for longer freeway rides. Any feedback on this will be great

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there
      I also transitioned from a GS. The Husky without any sort of fairing gives you a ton of wind buffeting. When I bought the Lynx, I. bought both versions of the windscreens and I swap them depending on the adventure I'm doing. If it's mainly offroad then I keep the smaller screen on, which gives me enough protection on road sections, and then I slide it down for offroad. If I'm doing a big multi-day tour with more highway riding, then I put the touring windscreen on which is great. It's not quite as good as a GS with the windscreen wound up, but it's pretty good. Makes long days in the saddle so much more comfortable.

      I swap out to different tires all the time. If I've got a trip with a fair bit of road riding, then I like the TKC80s because they are quiet on the road but still give you reasonable traction on the dirt. If I'm doing harder more technical trips (like my trip this week to the Victorian High Country) then right now I'm using the Motoz Desert HT on the back and a Pirelli Scorpian Rally on the front.

      On the Flinders trip I did two long legs (probably 60% tarmac and 40% dirt). They were 500km legs and 750km legs. The way I have the bike set up (windscreen/fairing, cruise control, heated grips, steering dampener and Seatcomfort seat), it was really comfortable to ride.
      I sold my 1250GS and I only ride the 701 in Australia... but I tend to ride much more technical routes now that I'm enjoying so much more than the GS.

      @brentbat  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of questions...
      Yes, I've ridden the bike at night and the lights on the Lynx are excellent. REally good coverage.
      I chose 701 over T7 because it is 50kg lighter and it is more off-road capable. I prefer the high fender for offroad. But weight was the major driver.
      701 is almost identical to the 690, same chassis, engine and equipment, I think the 701 is a bit taller, but bottom line... I don't look good in orange ;-)
      Cruise control system is linked in the description above.

      Hi there... My drone is a Skydio 2. It is charged from the 12V cigarette lighter port on my dashboard. It needs a high power output (about 65W). So I use something like this www.amazon.com/Charger-Cigarette-Lighter-Adapter-Chargers/dp/B0932YK6RW/ref=sr_1_10
      Then the USBC cable runs into my Mosko Moto tank bag where my spare batteries are sitting on the charger being charged as I ride.

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Rafal, when I flog the bike on hard technical track I've been getting around 300km range on the internal tank. However, I've had reports that the newer model 690s / 701s are regularly getting 380km range when touring.
      I'm probably going to end up fitting the Rade Garage 5L tank under the seat which will give me tons of range. I'm not keen on fitting safari tanks on the bike as this will add too much weight and bulk and defeat the purpose of getting a light-weight advernture bike. If I need extended range, then I'll use a bladder.

      Hey Jason, I'm assuming you mean steering dampner. It was recommended to me by some 690 riders, and in my first few rides with the bike I could see what they meant... I had a couple of little "head shakes" that I didn't like on the bike. The steering is very very loose without it. But I need to do some testing with the dampner to get used to it.

      Hey Michael, I was tempted by the LR, but it has been discontinued. You can't buy an MY21 LR. But you can get the LR kit and fit it, but it is $3,000 for the kit then there is installation which would be easily another $1,000+ if you paid to get it done. So it wasn't worth it. Right now I'm riding with standard tanks, I have carried a bladder for a couple of long rides with no fuel. This is so beautifully clean. Well done on the parts choices. I am looking at making the jump from F850GS to a 690/701, and like you, I have some things I don't want to lose (cruise and heated grips!). I really hate having crap bolted on all over the place, you've made it all very nicely integrated and seemingly achieved the unicorn bike.

      Hey Tom, I tend to do more technical adventure riding. I seek out dirt whenever possible, and I don't mind the rougher trails.... challenges. So the 701 is just perfect for me. With the retractable windscreen, cruise control, heated grips and Seatconcepts seat, I've got comfort as well as performance. It's still not as comfortable as a GS, but when you get into dirt, you just can't wipe the grin off my face. I love it. The best bike I've had by far, because now I can do REAL adventure riding and enjoy it. With the GS I'd shit myself whenever we hit sand or anything reasonably technical. With the Husky, I just wind open the throttle and let the bike do it's thing. Yes, I've put a real focus on keeping the bike clean and uncluttered.

      Hi Elliott, I'll confess that a lot of the recommendations came from a 690 rider I met earlier this year. He was in a group of about 10 690 riders and they have been riding the bikes for years. So when I mentioned I was getting a 701, he sent me a list of what they collectively had agreed was the best combination of after-market parts to turn the 690/701 into a killer Adventure bike. The Wings seems to have a very strong following, is sold locally, it's reasonably priced, sounds great and is very light and runs cool. Also there are 3 different sound reducing options, so you can make it as quiet as the stock exhaust if you want, or as obnoxious as hell.

    2) for the Zumo xt mount, did you purchase the mount through Brittania with the lynx fairing? Or buy it separate?
    3) are the heated grips wired straight to battery? If so, have you had any issues with accidentally leaving them on and flat battery?

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Thom, happy to help with any questions you have. To answer your 3 questions.
      1) Yes, I bought high output lights, I haven't yet ridden with them at night... we have been locked down here with Covid for about 120 days, so I have only just started riding again. (Heading out tomorrow for another run, then a 2-day camping trip the weekend after). So I can't answer the question on glare.
      2) Yes, I got the mount through Brittania with the fairing.
      3) No, the heated grips are connected through one of the three switched circuits on the back of the fairing, so they go off automatically when the ignition is cut. You get 3 switched circuits with the Lynx and one continuous circuit. So Iave the following connected to the switched circuit.
      1) Heated grips
      2) 12V cigarette lighter port
      3) GPS
      On the continuous port I opted for their double USBV port. This way if I want to leave my phone charging while the bike is off I can.

    Hi Brent, the tower and the motorcycle in general look great. Have you tried the tower at 130 Km/h - Do you have any wobbling at higher speeds?
    I also prefer the mobile option with the navigation apps and the headset for instructions, calls and music. The original seat is an insult to customers, a real nightmare. I'm planning to upgrade to the Seat Concept I've tested - it's really comfortable. the downside is delivery time. Hey there Dror
      I haven't tried the lynx fairing at 130kmh yet because we are still in Covid lockdown here and I can't ride my bike more than 5km from home or I risk big fines. But I'm pretty confident it will be rock steady. The Lynx was recommended to me by a group of hard-core 690 riders who have tried a bunch of stuff and arrived at their recommended build (that is what guided me largely). I also fitted the steering dampener. When I rode the bike without the dampner, There were a couple of times where I did get some slight wobbling (once on highway and once on sand), So I think that the dampner will help big time. Regarding seat, I can't get a Seat Concepts XL Comfort seat for my bike yet (they don't have one that fits the MY21 Euro version which is different), but I've found an Australian company that builds identical seats and they have great reviews and they are half the price, so I'm going to get my seat done in October when I'm away.

      @brentbat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Jack, First of all, if you haven't seen my 3 Flinders videos, check them out, because I talk quite a bit about the bike on that ride. To answer your question, I'm extremely happy with this bike. It is my dream bike. I'm selling my GS in Texas and buying a second 701 for over there as well. From a reliability perspective, I have not had a single thing go wrong with the bike. I do look after the bike properly (get it serviced and do the basics myself).... I actually enjoy tinkering with the 701 because it is so simple to work on compared to the GS (which I never touched). The light weight and offroad handling will fill you with confidence, and it will also just put a big smile on your face. It is just so much more enjoyable and easy to ride offroad compared to the big bike. Now riding it on road... the answer is Yes, but you must set it up correctly. To make it comfortable for road legs, then I think at a minimum you need:
      * Something to cut the wind on your body - I love the Lynx, but would probably also look at the new Aurora light fairing.
      * Bark busters with weights on them to reduce vibration
      * I like the bar risers, they make the ergonomics right for me
      * Seat Concept seat (this is a must have)
      * Wider pegs
      * Steering stabilizer
      I think those are the important things to make the bike really enjoyable to ride on long road sections. In addition I have also added
      * Heated Grips
      * Cruise control
      * GPS
      My bike is now fantastic for both long riding on road (I did a 10 hour 700+km stretch in the Flinders and felt fine after that) and it just makes me smile offroad.
      And for the record, I turn 60 next month, so I'm in your age group. :-)

      @brentbat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey John, yes, I'm happy to answer this question.... First of all, I'm not sure if you saw my video about moving from the GS to the 701 th-cam.com/video/OfxAOrbUv_Q/w-d-xo.html
      That has some of the answer as to why I changed. But I wanted something dramatically lighter from my GS. The T7 was about 50kg lighter, but the 701 was about 100kg lighter. I found that I was enjoying the more technical adventure trails more and more (as opposed to just dirt roads), so I decided to get the lighter bike and make it more comfortable on the road (fairing, heated grips, cruise control, comfortable seat etc.).
      I did some pretty big distances on my Flinders trip (check out those videos if you haven't seen it yet)... where I rode for 8 days solo over some pretty tough terrain. I ended up doing over 700km on one day and while a T7 would have been more comfortable, the 701 was definitely comfortable enough for me the way I have it set up. So I now have a pretty capable long distance adventure bike... but it is an absolute weapon and a joy to ride in the more technical stuff. There is something quite confidence building knowing that you are on a really capable light-weight adv bike when the going gets sketchy. I hope that answers your question.
