  • The world should abandon its constant race for economic #growth. That's the idea behind a new book written by the UN's Special Rapporteur on #humanrights and extreme #poverty. In it, Olivier De Schutter argues that the system is now counterproductive in rich countries and that the Earth cannot continue to provide the #resources we demand of it. "Infinite growth is not possible on a finite #planet," he told us in #Perspective.

The first priority should be to stop the US constantly waging Wars around the World , and spare the resources to
help the poor countries to grow and to help themselves .

Yeah, there's a lot of things we should do and some of the most influential people in human history have been hammering on them without creating much more than a speedbump in the grand scheme of things. As it turns out, getting anything done that requires people to voluntarily supress their base impulses collectively no matter how short sighted, has proved sustainably impossible. For all our perceived magnificence, like all animals we are still quite helpless in the face of ourselves.
To paraphrase Zizek: It's easier for us to picture global disaster (or gunning for a future on Mars, or betting that AI or God will save us), than it is to imagine successfully doing something about our governing factors, even though in reality all we have to do is do it. Though most of us don't realize it, at this point we are in fact intuitively awaiting the collapse.

We collectively suppress our urges all the time. It's a matter of culture.
