These come in green and orange. Orange for fire, green for water, black for first aid. I really love your videos. Your voice is soothing. Thank you for all your ideas.

Just a tip if you didn't know, your alcohol pad will light with a ferro rod. It won't burn long but you'll get a pretty good flame for a minute or so. I always keep a few x-large alcohol pads in my fire kit since they're flat and take up zero room.

I like the video and the little kit; the only thing I would change would be the ferro rod striker, to me it's big and useless except for the ferro rod. A better option would be a length of hacksaw blade wrapped with some duct tape, sharpen on the back side and grind a point. Then you've added two functions, and to me hacksaw blades make the best strikers. I'm a kit junkie and am always trying to figure out how to put more potatoes in the sack ;-) Great video, fact, I like all your videos.

    My 2 cents...
I would use this as a dedicated fire kit instead. Ferro, few matches, tinder tabs, pice of fatwood, maybe a magnesium rod. Wrap the outside with jute twine.

Very unique kit for a small carry. I think nice job with so limited space. Thank you for the video!!

Nice. The blade would work as a striker. For a small whistle, cut one from the ones that hang on the sternum strap or paracord buckle. You need a larger bag, produce bags hold water and are thin and strong. I enjoy your videos.

Very cool nd practical. This should be the heart of every mini kit. Water, Fire, 1st aid food you have the means for fishing or trapping, shelter is the only element that was left out because of the lack of space. Awesome kit enjoyed it very much. Thank you, I thought i saw all ur vids.

Interesting Kit . Be cool if you can get a mirror inside just like how those orange 5 in 1 whistle/match case's have. Ranger bands could fit on the outside. Maybe a metal cutting saw blade might fit in. Other tool yet still be able to strike your ferrocerium rod with over having your current striker . If you wanted to braid a paracord lanyard on in a quick deploy multi strand . Enjoying your content :D and all the best from CR.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to do update videos on kits that I make to show how they evolve so I'll probably implement a few of these suggestions.

That's what I was thinking, a blade made from a hacksaw blade, and drop any razor blade. Plus you can make the blade as long as the tube and actually have something useful with a handle wrapped in a little tape, and tape over the cutting edge. I stole the idea from this site, so I could make what I wanted to fit my kit container.
      www.m4040.com/Survival/Store/Store_Blades.htm
I would also drop the wire and replace it with 30 or 40 feet of 200 lbs. test braided fishing line and use braided. It's so much better and stronger and compact, but at 200 lbs test it's still getting to were it's thick enough to be useful, at about .030" diameter, and 250 lbs test is .035" or about .89mm diameter.
Last thing I would do is drop the baggie and add two or three breast milk bags. Those do not leak and are very well made. These are really good and hold almost 11 oz. each if you really fill them up to the max. Of course you have to divide up your water tablet accordingly, but that's no big deal if you do it while it's still in its wrapper and then open it.
      www.amazon.com/dp/B01FD6OHDG/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01FD6OHDG&pd_rd_w=PKu4w&pf_rd_p=48d372c1-f7e1-4b8b-9d02-4bd86f5158c5&pd_rd_wg=7Kz6e&pf_rd_r=X6NVTNVPQ34MQT9SXV5F&pd_rd_r=1dc74268-f860-4c43-9c51-d91ead24a77f&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyUEtZN0xKVUE2OFlYJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDk0ODc5MlJMRkdOVVpCWlI2OCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTIyNjA4MzRXM0RKQ0c4R0tORCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbCZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
I've made a few of these tube type kits over the years, and I have found that if you build it with the mind set of storing items that sit side by side, you get more in the kit, and the items are easier to access. Think like a box of straws and how they're stored side by side.
Like the braided fishing line, I place two nails in wood that are the distance of the tube length and wrap the line around the nails until I get the amount I want and then wrap more line around the entire length nail to nail and now it's shaped like a dowel that's the length of the tube and fits right in it easily.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the future for this type of kit. I'm sorry for the long post, but I really enjoy and get into making these kits and learning from others like yourselves. Keep up the great work.

Replace the wire with 10 feet of kevlar kite line, you can order it from Amazon, works in small kits almost as well as paracord without the space.

Great! Home made survival kits are always better than those China-garbage-filled premade ones. Can’t wait to see your bigger survival kits! If I could make some suggestion, I’ll add a Friendly Swede magnesium ferrocerium bar, which is small, cheap and can conveniently take the place of the old type ferrocerium/cotton tinder/fatwood stuff. See you guy! :-)

Very true, but in some environments you can get by with a lot less. I lived in Minnesota for a few years and while the winters were bad the summers were fine. If it was hot in the day time it would probably be fairly warm that night. A small PSK would be fine there, heavy on bug repellent and water treatment. However, when I moved to the panhandle of Idaho I was in a different world! It gets cold up at elevation; you can sweat in 85 degree heat in the day but be subjected to freezing temps at night. My PSK got a lot bigger then! At any rate if you live in a temperate climate you can get by with less kit.

Enjoyed the video. I think you covered as many bases as possible given the space available. As you said putting these kits together is an evolving process. If possible I would slip in a tiny knife like a Spyderco Bug. A knife always comes first for me.

In a kit like that, a surgical razor blade or even a single edged razor blade would be better. Just not enough space for an effectice folding knife.

For such a small container, you managed to store a LOT of very well chosen items. I for one can't really think of anything I could reasonably add or substitute for what you already have. You've covered 3 of the 4 main immediate survival concerns: medical, fire, and water. Shelter in the form of a space blanket etc. wouldn't fit in there. Any knife big enough to process firewood you'd have to carry separately. Everything else is pretty much icing on the cake. In essence, you understand your priorities and you know your ----.

    • @aussiestallion69
      @aussiestallion69 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Fails badly, as you said no shelter, add to that no communication, one of the 5 C’s - so should include a whistle and mirror. Plus no cordage another missing C. Add to all that it’s an impractical container, it seems he found a nice looking container on Amazon and went from there, when in fact you should look at the essential items and then find the most practical container. One that you will carry with you all the time when hiking, etc.

I guessed the aquatabs, tinder, button compass, tiny knife, meds, bandages, ferro rod and ziploc. I missed the alcohol wipe, fishing kit, duct tape, snare wire, tin foil and glow stick. I thought you might add one of those tablet towels, a trick candle or mini flashlight, waterproof matches and bankline or mini paracord. I have doubts about how useful snare wire is, but that's because I've never used it. But I also question the point of having a glow stick so small, except in extremely dark situations.

I've commented on enough of your videos for you to know my opinions. ;-) That seems a little too minimal, at least for me and my AO. I don't recall you ever mentioning where in the country you are. I'm in the western side of Montana at about 5,000 ft where the nights can be pretty cold even in the summer and the summers are brief. IMOHO any kit worth carrying should have some kind of shelter component, a means to store water, a means to make fire and some cordage at a minimum. Of course, if the tube is just one part of a larger system I could see the usefulness. Even in a small kit like that you could probably fit a few matches and some striking paper. I suppose it's about as good as you will get for such a low volume of storage. Personally I like what you did with the S.O.L. Scout kit a bit better.

    • @KitbashedSurvival

The size limits what I can put in there. I'll progressively move up to larger homemade kits as time goes on. For this one, it's about the challenge of what you can fit into such a small space. :)
