Had the disease when was 7, parents wudnt belive until i was 8 and started limping. back then nasty doctors told me id get surgery in my early twenties, id always be last in everything, and shouldnt even try. My mom protected me from even going outside playing with my friends... when turned 15 i started looking at girls and wanted to look better so obviously lost a lot of weight. BIG SUPRISE hips got better... looked like i won the fight doing a job until my late 20ies where i carried a lot of weight everyday for hours. now 37 and on schedule for both hips surgery. but dont let anything stop you

I was diagnosed when I was 8, but took my parents a year to believe me too. I was 7 when I knew something wasn't right.
I had the surgery to correct and protect, but I'm 39 now and man am I suffering hard!
I've had a left leg rhats been shorter than my right leg ever since that surgery, and over time the difference in leg length has increased. Currently a difference of 2 inches. My gate is extremely strained, not to mention the persistent problems I have with my right knee now for all the over compensating I've been doing.
I've tried corrective shoes, but this just causes extreme lower back and pelvic pain because its just a temporary fix so to speak. My hip itself isn't actually painful, but it's the difference in the length of my legs thats caused major issues over time.

I had this when I was 8 years old. Had 3 surgeries, and had to wear that leg brace that kept my legs apart. It was an interesting childhood but I skipped all of second grade which was neat lol.

Did those surgeries cure you? In the 80’s only thing they did was give me a lift to go into my right shoe and told me not to play sports

My one leg is shorter than the other because of it but I still weightlift, play sports and can go for a long run no problem. I think it affected my spine and posture over time though so I make sure I am adamant about sitting and standing up straight.

Commenting for myself - Perthes Disease - sounds like "paratha" which you eat as a child 5-10 roughly. google - Read the full fact sheet. Perthes' disease is an uncommon condition that affects children between the ages of three and 11 years. Blood supply to the head of the thigh bone is disrupted which causes the bone to deteriorate. This can cause pain, limping and limited movement of the hip joint.

Mine was misdiagnosed as growing pains cause the pain was focused in my right quad
It was only after I fell and couldn’t walk I was taken for X-rays
No surgery just the spread legs cast with bars between ankles and knees to hold them apart and reform up in the socket
After the first cast came off physio was really hard so before they put me in the next cast dad asked if they could bend my knees just slightly, enough to engage the leg muscles , I played sports all through highschool and into my late 30s. Very minor range of motion issues but stretching helps a lot. I can tell when rain is coming too

@@mattrohan7274 @mattrohan7274 very interesting and kudos to your dad man. Rare diseases are bound to be misdiagnosed initially I suppose.
