This appears to be a regular problem. I used to walk my dogs along an ancient ridgeway, which was suddenly blocked off by a local landowner some 20 years ago. The fingerpost disappeared and old barbed wire, machinery was dumped in the entrance from the lane. Not wanting to risk injury to my dogs, I walked them through to gated farmyard, whereupon I was challenged by to owner. I advised him that I would continue to use his yard as an access to the ridgeway until the proper access was made safe. He then made a fuss over my dogs being off lead. This was despite them being trained gundogs, behaving perfectly in the presence of his livestock.
Since that time I have noticed several attempts to close local footpaths.

My late Mother used to belong to the local 'Ramblers Association' and this was a common thing they often encountered on walks. Primarily it was farmers putting barbed wire and posts to block footpaths or removing a hedgerow with a parallel footpath to make 2 fields into 1 big field but the footpath now ran thru the middle of the 1 big one. House owners were also complicit in extending gardens to incorporate part of a woodland or a river at the end of their garden and blocking off either side. My mum used to say that all the people who came out aggressively new they were at fault and had been found out, whereas the ones who said they didn't know their was a footpath possibly didn't or had forgotten what their solicitor had found out during 'searches' prior to completion of sale.
A property (semi detached) I purchased recently had no fence at the rear dividing the properties, but it was quite clear from the rear bed window that the neighbour had encroached 1 mtr over the boundary line. He claimed it had been that way for the last 40 yrs but after showing him the 'Land Registry Deeds', + a large scale O/S plan he reluctantly moved his greenhouse back to where it should have been in the first place. People will try it on to see if they can get away with it.

Ace, suspect Council Planning oversight in developing the housing estate on the east half of the footpath.
The Public Footpath Glossop FP 81 was along the drive when the property was Travis Perkins and no apparent footpath signage back to 2009 street view. Glossop Caravan staff may not have been aware or long since forgot if the signage was missing - but - likely been in documents when purchasing Travis Perkins lot. Suspect at some point in the past Travis Perkins (or Council) removed the signage to secure their rear yard.
Also the Council and Footpath maps show the footpath leading to a park to the east before the housing estate was constructed. Appears Council never revised the route of Glossop FP 81 or posted new signage. Need to check the housing estate plate planning application (early 2000s ???) for any revisions or closure to Glossop FP 81. When Travis Perkins owned the property, if fencing was added the footpath should have been addressed in any planning applications.
    Glossop FP 81 route:
Public Footpath 81 went from Wooley Bridge Road along Travis Perkins drive and across the yard behind the building.
Path entered the trees and connected to the cycling trail NCN 62.
Path continued through the woods and beside 22 Wharncliffe Close in the housing estate.
On Wharncliffe Close the asphalt public footpath is clearly visible and maintained 2009 and 2023 street view but there is No public footpath signage and appears on the Derbyshire Council definitive map as a gray walk between homes.
The Council definitive map still shows the purple dash footpath south of 23 Wharncliffe crossing several gardens to the park to the east.
Could also check if Council intended to reroute the west half of Glossop FP 81 from NCN 62 to the street behind the terrace cottages to the south of Glossop Caravan/Travis Perkins. No street view available. Regardless, definitive map needs updated.

Hi there i was just looking at your video and i noticed that when you looked through the green gates on the bottom left hand side you can see Double yellow lines which extend about 25 meters to where the other companies gates were, as can clearly be seen on google maps this might mean 25 meters of Highway may have been fenced off as well ??? good luck on your Endeavours keep up the good work.

So, an obstructed path is one where something is lying (or has been placed) across the path which physically prevents you from using that part of the path. It is a criminal offence, under section 137 of the Highways Act 1980, to obstruct the whole or part of the width of a public path . This should be reported to both the police and local authority and needs to be opened. Full stop.

So the company is willing to wait to get a legal enforcement notice from the council rather than be proactive and fix the issue themselves. So instead of getting praise for acting properly, they project a negative light about how they handle everything. How will they fix faulty caravans?

this company already have a shit name for selling caravans that are complete rubbish, the ysell old damp rubbish and pretend its a one owner or carefully looked after etc.. if someone phones up about one and arranges a preview they quickly wash them.. look at the state of the roofs on all their vans....... anyone who wants a van this place is to be avoided big time.

Glossop caravans is 2 miles from me, my son worked there but unfortunately passed away, his job was fitting carpets in the caravans, the boss Nick is a very good boss that couldnt do enough for his staff, my son thought highly of him, to be fair those caravans you see in the video are not for sale, thats the service area where they're refurbished before they go on sale at the main forecourt which is half a mile down the road, everything is ripped out to a shell before all new is refitted internally, they do have a small selection of old caravans for sale that arent refurbed, that are bought as seen but most are refurbed, this company is the largest caravan company in UK and been open since 1976, it's a family business, his father owned it before Nick, I'm not one to comment on these auditing videos but felt I had to on this occasion, Nick is a kind fair boss with a very successful company, I think you're comment it unfair to the company, as a quick Google search for reviews will tell you most customers are happy with the caravans/motor homes they've purchased and have 4.1 on trust pilot, I've never met the owner of Glossop caravans I just know what my sons opinion of him was and how much he loved working there

Just a thought on this, but have you tried to access the footpath from the opposite end where it connects to the BridleWay? It would be interestingly see how far you can walk down it until you reach some obstruction or barrier. Bit late to the party here but, I would have thought that Caravanning and Rambling are quite closely linked and would therefore think that someone who sells caravans would have some empathy regarding public right of way, not necessarily from a personal point of view, but it makes good business sense now that the cat is out of the bag.

Accessed google street view today 31st October 2023
On google street view only some of the footage is updated - this is due to the gate/fence being erected after 2016. The reason I say this you go where Ace starts her video and the fence is their data taken 2023. You click to follow the line and it changes to 2016 - Travis Perkins in operation as cement mixers outside for hire etc and no fence. Also look at the colour difference darker green not he newer fence. Then man is lieing saying it has always been like that when it clearly hasn't and is freely viewable to all the world on Google Street View

Great start to your investigation. The caravan man wasn’t to proactive, me thinks he will have to stump up some money to reinstate the footpath stolen from the public. Question: is there a statute of limitations regarding ownership of the land the footpath should be on?

    • @kevinmulligan9055
      @kevinmulligan9055 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

No statute. Will change ownership I should think without a application to change ownership. At which point the caravan business owner would have stated this. Its a bit like the council don't need to declare a footpath as their own at anytime and no-one can then just declare it as their own just because no-one used it
