I can see this being how a rescue dog would think. It's taken a year for my girl to really settle in. She still has foraging/scavenging/hunting tendencies and gets almost manic when we let her out of her room (kennel) first thing in the morning like she expects us to abandon her any day.

Animals can definately suffer from emotional trauma. I'm sure she loves being in your life and finding safety with you.
