  • British GT is back! It 2023’s live coverage begins with four 10-minute qualifying sessions that decide the grids for Easter Monday’s two hour-long races.
GT3 and GT4’s first sessions determine the Race 1 grid, while the second… you get the idea!
Shaun Balfe and Jules Gounon set the overall pace last year, but neither of GT4’s pole winners - Richard Williams and Darren Turner - are amongst this season’s contenders.

Too many Mclarens, it’s gotten like Blancpain aka Audi R8 cup.
I’d like to see some over representation rules.

I mean, it's not the worst car to be overrep'd but the numbers do seem excessive. Kind of odd too considering they don't have huge entries elsewhere

@@chrischan5168It's not that bad this year. 11 out of 40 cars are Audis this year in Sprint.

More Mclarens will speed up development of the car.

You see the domestic brands overrepresented in all national championships - DTM and ADAC GT Masters are full of Mercs and BMWs and Porsches with a handful of other cars, the Italian GT Championship is mostly Ferraris and Lambos, the French GT Championship still has the Alpine GT4 that has vanished everywhere else; when Chevrolet start selling their Corvette GT3 car that'll be all over IMSA's GTD class and World Challenge America. That's why British GT has a bunch of McLarens in GT3/4 and Ginettas in GT4, people want to drive the local car and it makes sense for McLaren to support a bunch of cars here to get future factory drivers for their other GT3 endeavours (especially if they are thinking about Le Mans in the future when they move to GT3)
All 'over-representation rules' would be doing is telling people that they can't enter a race that they are able to enter and have the money to run because other people bought the same car they did perhaps years after they invested time and effort in the car and the setup; and in a series that is designed to be affordable to run it sort of goes against the spirit of the thing. BOP already means that no one brand has an advantage over the course of the season so you've not got an incentive for rich teams to buy the latest hot car that runs quickly so other factors like getting factory drivers or representing the national car companies or the coolest car takes over. Its not good when one brand dominates but you also aren't really seeing that: its not like there's 35 McLarens and 3 of the other cars in the field.
