Being familiar with Inkscape, I really liked the fast-paced run-through and not having to sit through the handling instructions, for example, "click...in the menu and go to... then you'll see in the panel on the right.. click and hold the slider to adjust..." etc. This streamline approach is refreshing and a great time-saver for intermediate Inkscapers. Thanks!
Being not so familiar with inkscape, Ive watched all the beginner videos but Im still unsure how to create a path with that many nodes using the bezier tool, any chance I could get some insight?
@@tylerellis6664 With the bezier tool you basically create a node with each clikck, then the tool connects it to the last one. To complete the shape you either click on the very first node, or simply right-click (this results an incomplete shape you can continue to draw later if you want). So you can have pretty much as many nodes as you want.
Thanks TJ! I've been using Inkscape for years, but I've learned a lot of handy tips during this series. But this video, where you apply that knowledge for an actual picture was the most useful so far. More of this type would be great.
That was so cool! I liked this because it shows what can be made using the Inkscape tools that you taught about in the tutorials. It is great to see another tutorial on this.
Friend, I’m very glad to meet you and collaborate. I have been subscribed to your channel for a long time, but I couldn’t even imagine that my works would be published on such a wonderful, useful and popular channel as TJFree. I am grateful to God and the channel administrator for this fruitful cooperation and new opportunities! Good luck and God's blessings!
This is wonderful timing! Today I got it into my head they I wanted to do some simple kata just like this one to build on top of the wonderful Inkscape videos that TJFree put out a few months ago! This is perfect, thank you!!
Amazing - And no, you are not going too fast- rather fast and be able to reduce speed/pause - than falling asleep long winded videos! Great stuff need more!!!
Wow! I can see I have a lot to learn. I am just amazed by how quickly you accomplished this task. I look forward to many more draw vector graphics videos. More than happy to share them too.
Great tutorial as always, enjoyed the fast paced video, as it shows the capabilities. I do enjoy your slower tutorials though as I'm still a beginner but as I progress I'm sure I will appreciate the time saved! I look forward to more content, thank you!!!
Fantastic video. I am an Inkscape newbie and have been working through all TJs videos - but this is where it all comes together and really gts me thinking about what I can do with it. I am interested in creating my own SVGs for use with my vinyl cutting machine and my mind is whirring! Thank you.
Good tip, thanks for sharing! I've noticed the path operations ( Path > Difference, Union, Exclusion) can be a little difficult to get the hang of at first. Watching different peoples methods and testing them out for yourself is a good way to gain confidence using them.
@@tetedanco If the objects are grouped, the path functions like union, difference, etc.. will not work. Even a single object or path can be converted into a group. It sometimes helps to right click on an object and go to Object Properties. Check the object ID, it will tell you if the selection is a group, path, text, etc...
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I tried to recreate your watermelon but had problems with the Bizier tool. The problem I am having is that my lines are straight, with no curvature. The more I try, the more jagged they look. What can I do to change that? Thanks again.
Hi Ezzy, good question! I'm not sure why they are drawing straight. After its drawn, you should be able to go into the 'Edit Paths by Node' (F2 shortcut key) and left click and hold on a line in the path to bend or arc it. You might also play with the settings along the top while in the Bezier tool to see if anything there makes a difference.
TJ FREE My husband, observe my steps, and saw that I was holding down the right key. I corrected my error but I continued to find that I was making more errors. I think it would help me if I had a copy of the watermelon you created. I tried to download it, but I could not. I also asked someone who has a master's in computer forensics, and they could not. (that made me feel good). Thanks again for all the work you do. Would it be possible for me to download a copy of the watermelon?
@@EzzyDT Hi Ezzy. Yes, to download the SVG file of the watermelon, follow the link in the video description, then right mouse click on 'Original File' and go to 'Save Link As'. This should download it to any location you choose on your computer. Good luck!
When you intersect you loose both the objects you use in the intersection, so you duplicate so you can have one for the intersection, and the other to remain in your drawing.
I would love to learn how to do floral patterns in Inkscape! I just don’t know how you do it, like, how do you decide where to light reflection go and the shape it should be.
I managed to get past the 1.22 mistake, but then the difference function just left me with a tiger-striped mess in the 3 minute instructions to create a glassy effect.
idk if you know this already but if you slow down the video you can see he duplicated the circle twice and than used the difference function on the circles he duplicated
One thing I am gonna tell anyone who makes tutorials. While "dark-mode" is really nice to use personally, it sucks for tutorials, as it is very hard to see the toolbar icons.
This is fantastic! Very good work. I wish I could do this too... and I followed along until as much as I could, but I must have a setting wrong (or not the same as you) because I got stuck... LOVE these videos! Please do more basic tutorial stuff in Inkscape❣ 👍👍
i repete the vedio about 5 times and then made it slower ×.5 to know the problem ... you made twice dublicate so fast and dont mention it so i did not note it .. any how .. you are a good teacher and i learned alot from you .. but please mention every steps
It's because there is a mistake in the video. In the 1:22 he is duplicating the circle, not the path. And the comment is wrong: It should be "select the new circle (duplicated, on top) and the path, and then intersect". This way it works
Infographics would be great, I'll see what I can do. I'm playing around with Sozi right now, its like Inkscape/SVG animated presentations, and would pair nicelt with a well designed infographic.
Compared to its adobe counterpart, inkscape is faster and simpler, my favorite feature is that editing paths is much easier and less confusing compared to AI's one million tools for editing paths. The only downside of inkscape for me is it doesn't have AI's equivalent to shape builder tool. Union, intersect, combine, division etc are really suck and not so practical especially when you are working with a rather complex design.

You're welcome, that's really what i was trying to go for. Once you know the basics, you can learn so much just by watching someone's process.

When I do the intersection part the whole circle disappears only the lines remain.what is wrong?

The way you intersection the paths is not working how to do this plz plz plz guide me
if the part of intersec the first black lines does not work for you, try duplicate the circle and not the bezier curves

Unable to understand the logic behind duplicating the circle before intersecting. Can anyone tell me why we did this
When you intersect you loose both the objects you use in the intersection, so you duplicate so you can have one for the intersection, and the other to remain in your drawing.
Really neat! Maybe I'll figure it out someday.

Thanks for the video sir. As a beginner this video is somewhat intimidating, but I have completed this video in 2 days. 😀😁😴👍🏻

Marvelous! Thanks. I guess you can make it more realistic by distorting geometric shapes subtly.
not working for me every time i hit path intersection all i get are those lines in green with white spaces in between. no more circle

i could not get the intersection command correct. i just get the strips not the melon with the strips as shown in the tutorial. @TJFREE
@Dr.Najeeb Lectures You need to duplicate the circle, not the lines.
