- This is my cleaning process. The video is basically a description of how I go about cleaning with some tips. I show what the machine looks like after each step. I'm a little obsessive about keeping my 299D3 clean and maintained. I recommend checking your air filter frequently if you are working in dusty conditions, they get dirty in a hurry. I also believe it's best to have everything clean prior to changing any of your fluids and filters to avoid contamination.
These machines should last years with clean air, fuel, and oil. Keep it greased every 8 hours and keep the interior clean and it you will enjoy using it everyday with few signs of wear.
First thing I did was grease those cab bolts. Made it so much easier!
They are definitely time consuming to remove without it.

Short answer YES. I have received a number of messages about them being difficult to service, but they are always referring to a smaller machine. The 299D3 is a breeze to service, everything is easily accessible. My 100 hour review video is long but explains my thoughts of CAT CTL's 15-20 years ago (I hated them). I've had a few minor issues with this one, but haven't taken it in for them to fix (short in headlight switch, ride control seems to be functioning slightly different). Damn , it does take a long time to clean spent 6 hours on mine the other day, i use mask with filters and pool googles. It keeps out of my mouth and eyes.
