Padeniya Rajamaha Viharaya || පාදෙනිය රජමහා විහාරය

This historic Padeniya Rajamaha vihara, located at Padeniya junction, about 4 km from Wariyapola town on the road from Kurunegala to Puttalam, belongs to the early period of Anuradhapura. It is said in history that there was a yojana stupa built by King Dewanampiya Tissa in this vihara. The giant Theraputthabhaya, who was in king Dutugemunu's Ten giants, lived as a monk for the second time in this Padeniya Rajamaha Vihara. During the reigns of different kings, the forest has undergone renovations from time to time. According to the renovations done by Meegasthanna Adikaram during the reign of Kirti Sri Rajasingha during the Kandy period, the present statue house has been built. The roof is built on 30 wooden pillars with beautiful carvings. The wooden porch at the entrance is one of the largest wooden porches in the country. Inside the idol house there is a sitting Buddha statue and four standing Buddha statues and a Vishnu and Natha god statues. The bodhi tree, which is considered to be a plant of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, is protected by three golden fences on three stone-lined courtyards.
කුරුණෑගල සිට පුත්තලම මාර්ගයේ වාරියපොල නගරයට කිලෝමීටර් 4ක් පමණ දුරින් පාදෙනිය මංසන්ධියේ පිහිටි මෙම ඓතිහාසික පාදෙනිය රජමහා විහාරය අනුරාධපුර මුල් යුගයට අයත් වූවකි. දෙවානම්පිය තිස්ස රජු විසින් යොදුනක් පාසා කරවන ලද යෝජන ස්තූපයක් මෙම විහාරයෙහි වූ බව ඉතිහාසයේ සඳහන් වේ. දුටුගැමුණු මහරජුගේ දසමහා යෝධ සේනාවේ සිටි ථේරපුත්තාභය සෙන්පතිතුමන් දෙවන වර පැවිදිව වැඩවාසය කරන ලද්දේ මෙම පාදෙනිය රජමහා විහාරයේ ය. විවිධ රජවරුන්ගේ පාලන කාලවලදී වරින්වර වල් බිහිව නැවත ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණයන්ට ලක්ව ඇත. ඒ අනුව මහනුවර සමයේ කීර්ති ශ්‍රී රාජසිංහ රජ දවස මීගස්තැන්න අදිකාරම් විසින් කරන ලද ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණවලට අනුව වර්තමාන ප්‍රතිමා ගෘහය ඉදිකර තිබේ. අලංකාර කැටයම් සහිත දැවකණු 30 ක් මත වහල තනා තිබේ. ප්‍රවේශ දොරටුවේ ඇති දැවමය උලුවස්ස මෙරට ඇති විශාලතම දැවමය උලුවහුවලින් එකකි. පිළිම ගෙයි ඇතුළත හිඳි බුද්ධ ප්‍රතිමාවක් හා හිටි බුද්ධ ප්‍රතිමා සතරක් ද විෂ්ණු හා නාථ දේව ප්‍රතිමාවක් ද වෙයි. ජය ශ්‍රී මහා බෝධීන් වහන්සේගේ අංකුර බෝධීන් වහන්සේනමක් ලෙස සැලකෙන බෝධීන් වහන්සේ ගලින් බැඳි මළු තුනක් මත රන් වැට තුනකින් ආරක්ෂාව සළසා ඇත.
