  • Mexico's African history. In this video, I visit several historic sites like the Olmec Museum, Yanga, and an afro-descendant community in Oaxaca Chacahua Mexico to learn more about the black people that live in Mexico and its African history.
Xalapa Museum of Anthropology is located in Xalapa Veracruz Mexico and is the largest collection of artifacts from the Olmec civilization, the mother culture of Mesoamerica.
Yanga Mexico is located in the southern area of the State of Veracruz, Mexico, named after Gaspar Yanga, the cimarron leader who in 1609 resisted an attack by Spanish forces trying to regain control of the area. Yanga Mexico is also known as one of the first free slave establishments in the Americas
The Lagunas de Chacahua National Park is a national park located in Oaxaca and is also the home to a fishing village where a large percentage of the Villagers are Afro Mexican descendants.

The label “what they don’t show you” is deliberately misleading. First, who is “they”. Second, African genetics vary greatly by region, and as a general rule Mexicans have - on average- only 2% to 4% African genetics. My family is from northern Mexico and my genetics revealed 1%. My genetics include 3% Jewish and 1% Scottish but I don’t consider myself either one of them. I’m 70 European, 29 % indigenous and yes 1% African. You’ll find most Mexicans are a mix of indigenous and European. The simple truth is most are not African.

"They" is Mexico Mainstream Media that reaches the world platform please tell Im wrong. We all shall the reaction of Namor the Black Panther character from Mexico's Main Street Media, not looking like the typical European Mexican so please tell me how you don't understand this? perhaps your not fimalar with the situation and commenting based on personal experiences this is why videos like this are important. please look over all the comments you can see several people who did not even know that black people existed in Mexico nor the black history Mexico have you can be mad all you want or throw statistical numbers to me it doesn't matter, videos like these are necessary to educate people. the title is appropriate

Detracting statement. It's not mainstream knowledge. Everytime I ask a South American including Mexican, they know nothing about the black communities in their countries. They always think I'm Cuban or Puerto Rican. This was a great eye opening video and many Mexican people are also saying they didn't know this history or where to find the current communities

Can I ask you a question? Why are so many mexicans resistant to this knowledge? I've had this conversation at work before in an educational tone and I was looked at as though I had an eye in the middle of my forehead. Does it stem from what is perceived embarrassment to be associated with the african race? I'm pleading ignorance and anxiously awaiting your response.

Growing up, I had no idea that there were black Mexicans that had been there for almost as long as the indigenous Mexicans. I was so confused when my mom told me about a black priestess healing me in Mexico after multiple doctors said there was no hope and had discharged me from the hospital to die at home. My mom told me that a black lady saved me and I asked her where she had came from, my mom said she didn't know. Looking back, her ancestors had probably been in Mexico even long before my great great grandparents arrived from Spain, making her more Mexican than myself. African people are amazing. I’m an immigrant from Mexico, and was brought over to the U.S. as a child. I have seen much racism from my older generation family and I am always teaching them that stereotypes are toxic and diversity is beautiful. They deny it being racism, and consider it an opinion. I take every chance to speak up and talk with my family members. Colorism in Mexico is very real
I absolutely LOVE the diversity in Mexico and I have always used my privilege, being a lighter skin tone to advocate for my darker skinned brothers and sisters

He had the curly hair, wide nose and big lips. He's not as dark but i feel somewhere along the way there had to be some mixture. My sister is asked if she's mixed but she just says she's Mexican. But she has the beautiful big lips with a dark tone skin.
