That's a hell of a flex she has, right? I think she was sick that day, too. She normally doesn't have so much squeak bleed into her clean vocals. She's AMAZING no matter what. :)
I don't think she was sick here, I think (as you mentioned) she just chose to utilize a fair amount of grit in this performance. But if one listens to the way she seamlessly switches back and forth between the gritty passages and the pure-toned passages, it's a masterclass in vocal cord closure.
