Komodo dragons or other large monitor lizards are another possibility for those animals. The flicking tongues of monitors are probably the source of the "fire breathing" stories of dragons.
Great video! We knew about the Hanyusuchus for decades, but they were just seen as late surviving Chinese relatives of the Toyotamaphimeia machikanensis, until being described as Hanyusuchus sinensis.
Never heard of this crocodilian before! Thanks for enlightening me about a fascinating and little known (to Baltimore Maryland!) beastie. Funky crocodile elevator jazz at 2:40!
Wow. Sometime last year, I learned that China had a culling of birds some decades ago. Now you're telling me they also wiped out a variation of crocodiles native there? I wonder how off has the ecosystem been over there?
Take where I am, for example(china gansu baiying jingyuan)The largest animals in the forest are the rock sheep and the forest musk deer A few months ago, gray wolves were wild in this forest。
By the way, the construction of a dam near us in the past two years will cause the extinction of many fish. Especially a rare fish called the northern copperfish.
They woulda been screwed either way. Cause during the famine in the 1950s they eat everything.. that's why they eat dogs and scorpions and shit now adays it's a hold over from the famine that made it a norm .... My point is they would have eaten all the camin as well... 'not all china people eat dogs, but it definitely is a thing they have festivals every year it's awful' 😢
The Four Pests Campaign (1958-62) only dealt with sparrows and was an ecological disaster. There are still PLENTY of Sparrows (and other birds) in China due to reintroduction and recovery over 50 years. Not sure where you got this impression from?
Panic on the streets of Guangdong, Panic on the streets of Guangxi, I wonder to myself
"Could we get to 3K subs?"
You’ve earned my sub Morrisey
This is probably the Chinese dragons that Marco Polo referred to when he said the Emperor kept dragons and had an actual dragon trainer.
That is one way to look at it but wow.... that really changes a lot of things when you look at it from that perspective.
It may be possible but I reckon unlikely, crocodiles would have been known to westerners. Suchus is Greek derived from the Eygptian god Sobek.

Sure you did🙄.
Yeah because if anything even moderately advanced or successful happened outside the west it must be a lie right? 🤦🏽♂️Just stop man @@yoshijb9428
I think it needs to be remembered that at this time, humans were struggling to survive, so this was one of the fights for survival that we won.
Really enjoyed this docu about the Hanyusuchus - thank you very much!

The dam's name is Heishan Gorge(黑山峡)
The scientific name of that fish Coreius septentrionalis。
Awesome to see your channel growing. Great vid bro!
Still cranking the vids, you so deserve to hit 3k subs 🙌
Holy fgn shiz I felt like I almost died in the rural Guandong region 3,000 years ago in the jaws of the mighty saurian.

Great video! Although I really don’t understand the choice of background music 😂
The croc is terrified more like. There aren’t ANY birds in China.
Wut
Cuz they killed them eith DDT back when the Emporer declared the sparrows were robbing the people of there grain . China always big on poison .
@@harryhanz1690I think it’s one of those weird conspiracy theories 😂
