- This is part 2 of my Janis Ian tutorial - how to play At Seventeen in CGDGBE. I mumble a lot and explain a little about what I'm doing, see notes below. This arrangement of hers is just so brilliant. The song is a masterpiece. It has everything. I have no written tab, but I hope this helps, if you can't follow what I'm doing then find an easier song to learn :D
Chords (I think):
G9 G GMaj7 G6 G
I learned
Am7sus2 Am7 AmMaj7sus2 Am7
That love
D7 (run)
And high-school

And those
Am7 D6/9sus4
Lacking
Gm7 CmMaj7
Desperately
Gm7 Cm
Inventing

It isn't

Brilliant tutorial. Total altruism to put this out John,...something I really admire, as well as the knowledge and ability. Great song anall'-one of the anthems of the 70s as I recall!

This song got into my head for a week's. I love Bossa nova so this appeals to me. There's nothing remotely like it especially the acoustic version. Thanks.
Beautiful chords! Many thanks for putting this classic together. Working on this over the holidays
Wow! I've been looking for Seventeen tabs for so long, but could never find any good ones... until now of course. You are so so so ace, thank you so much! :)
Cheers, Ian. Yes, definitely one of the classics of the seventeen, great tune, great accompaniment and great lyrics, although I still needed a dictionary to understand what 'debentures' were. Thank goodness I managed to find the lyrics and didn't have to work them out by ear :o)
Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
John
You're fantastic. :) I've been struggling to find a great lesson on this song, and I'm so glad to have found this. Thank you!
Thanks :) You've very welcome. Classic song and excellent arrangement. I think I've got it just about right ;)
awesome, I'm not sure about the exact chords, but, I can watch your hands, you are about the only one on here who can play it right. I use a classical for this one, thanks tons....:-)
Thanks again, you are really incredible for showing us how to play this song!!!
Cheers, Damian
Great song - I really thought it was worth a tutorial.
Good! I'll refer everyone to your video now when they ask me for tabs. ha ha :)
Well done
Really cool arrangement. ..alot simpler and beautiful tone...
Nice singing too man😊.
May take awhile to get this sorted though😊
Great!
This song needed a great tutorial as this: now i have to ...learn it!
5* of course.
Great tutorial! Thanks so much! Hey do you know poetry man? Another great song from the 70's...Cant find a good tutorial on that one...
Lol, I've had some very strange requests since I started posting - declarations of love, one offer of marriage and a several requests to basically shut up. Overall I think I've been well treated - not too many trolls have found their way here ;-) They're quite recognisable and "Ug!" is probable a sufficient reply.
pretty bright version you have there! so many guitar trolls out there
Cheers, Merry Picking and a happy new tune ;o)
@pennysouix Thanks. I've never tried Poetry Man - I'll have to take a look. There's a video of Phoebe singing and it doesn't look too complicated - either standard or probably dropped D. Saddened to hear the news. Rest in peace and thanks, Harpo's Blues has always been one of my favourites.
@professorbobby Thanks very much, glad you like it :o)
This is a great lesson and your attention to detail is quality....would have been even better if you had played it once through at the very beginning....for context
Nice job
@jaystrings Thanks very much, sorry about the sound - I'm a bit of a mumbler ;o) Anyhow, glad the visual helps.
awesome thx
Cheers and best wishes :o)
Don't worry, there'll still be a lot of people who want the tab in standard tuning ;o)
If you've got a specific question, please ask it. I really don't know what I can add by doing another tutorial :))
hey do u have the tabs for this too? i could really use it as well.
Ah.....an open tuning (CM9). Standard tuning just didn't sound right. Mahalo plenty!
@adup1fc Cheers :-)
You should schmoke some dope to get a little more relaxed and slow down a bit. 😂
I'm sorry, sir- the CHORDS sounded pretty good, but THAT what's the most convoluted confusing, disconnected LESSON I've ever seen... I understand you've probably never tried to give a TH-cam lesson before but you have to have a PLAN. You have to EITHER play the first verse THRU, THEN explain Loudly and Clearly enough, what the chords ARE, or Else, SPEAK the chords UP FRONT, or use Graphics... BUT, to just keep Stopping and Starting arbitrarily, Nobody knows Where you ARE, and can't HEAR you.. Sounds like you're mumbling.. I thought you were speaking German at first, haha.
Sorry, constructive criticism!
