I'm looking at the x5 osmo video you posted, looks great just wanted to find out.. What format did you shoot in and what sequence settings did you edit in? Trying to find the best workflow for editing.. Did you find any noise on playback I see its better than the previous dji osmo.. Thanks!

Great video! Though if you have enough light available, I would recommend closing the aperture of your camera down a bit so there's more depth of field. It's a little tough on the eyes seeing the gear out of focus while you're explaining stuff.
This may need a 4th axis. You still see the walking movement which defeats the whole purpose of this rig. I bought the 4th axis for my X3 head and it didn't seem to help much. It almost introduced more up and down movement. And yes, as someone pointed out, the silver phone holder annoys the shit out of me!
Hello, what about focus issues? Video seems ok, have some focus issues in video, took a photograph and on iPad it looked in focus then came home and it was all blurry
Handles it poorly. I do aerial real estate shots, and have the Inspire 1 Pro, so I bought the Osmo handle for it since I've been looking to expand into interior video. X5 is good for aerials, but is a terrible camera for interiors. Terrible for all ground shots, really. Awful dynamic range, the autofocus and autoexposure will ruin your shots countless times. If you're working professionally you *should not* be needing to fight your camera just to get a usable shot, which is what you need to do with the Osmo Pro. Here's a really great shoulder-mounted DSLR setup for interior walkthroughs for the same price as the Osmo Pro ($2K): A Panasonic GH4 mirrorless: $1,300 A DSLR shoulder rig that can hold 15mm rods: Probably $50 to $300 depending on what you buy. I found a $70 one on Amazon. 15mm rods: Like $10 or less Rokinon Cine Lens (any focal length): $500 Fotga follow focus: $100 The shoulder mount works better than the gimbal. The Osmo's stabilization is effectively just as good as using footage stabilization in post, there will still be up, down, left, and right vibration. Shoulder mount is far more stable just as long as you learn to roll step.
I really enjoyed your vid very clean not to long and straight to the point very well done I’m a huge DJI and have owned a few myself. The phantom 3 advanced the inspire 1 standard 3 and the 4 pro phantom everything about the DJI in my opinion is great. But again thanks for the review. I am now going to sub.
What would you reccomend to buy, if i would want to use a gimbal to both film videos for youtube, and for livestreaming to Facebook/TH-cam? I really want the Osmo X3 og X5, but i am not sure how i would be able to livestream? The Osmo Mobile would work for FB streaming, but the quality for other uses would suffer i believe. Thank you for informative videos.
Hi mate, I live in New Zealand and watch your vlogs constantly. I have the inspire 2 with the x5s camera . I was wanting to know if you have any tips you could share as to the best settings for the camera when in flight. Sharpness , shutter etc.. thanks
for video 1/60th is the best shutter speed (30 fps) or 1/50th if your shooting (24/25fps) . I always level out sharpness etc to 0. If you are shooting D-log then all ought to be good.
Hi! thanks for the videos, they are great! I have an Osmo with the regular lens, so I wonder if I can use It with the X5 just by changing the lens or do I need some extra gadget to plugged it with?
HI, I saw your video posted on this post but some how I saw video more shaky, can you explain why as I feel using Gimble should avoid such bumps. Please explain.
It stabilizes the video well, but it bounces while walking. They made a z-axis adapter to reduce this, but It's not really working on the X5 camera yet, as far as I know. So the solution is to not walk wit it much while filming and if you do, do it slowly, or use a skateboard. This was a test, so I wanted to find the weaknesses as well as the strengths, I was surprised how well it performed in low light.
Is this camera really all it is cracked up to be? Would you say it's any better than the iPhone 7 plus camera during the day. Obviously the iPhone camera struggles during dimly lit shots but I have recorded u real footage with the osmo mobile
Hope you are still monitoring this, does the X5 have continuous autofocus or does one have to keep pressing the phone screen to periodically re-focus? Thanks.
Do you have the ability to focus with the X5 camera? I had the original Osmo and it always annoyed me that I couldn't for many applications I needed that for.
I noticed the moving/walking handheld shots had a rather bouncing motion (up/down). Is that normal? I would expect a more rock solid and stable image. Thx
Hello I have just installed newest X5 osmo firmware. Are you able to get Panorama or TimeLapse Mode. I can only choose between: single, multiple and interval. Photos in jpg. Kind regards for any answer.
Love the video. Love the osmo, but don't have 2k to spend on the X3 or 5. Debating getting the osmo (without the x3/5) or getting a DSLR like the canon 70d for video. Which would you recommend me to do?
Save your money! I sold my OSMO and the X5! It is an erector set that never stays in sync to your phone! Terrible! I really wanted to like this OSMO and I lost my ass selling it! Get a Canon and be happy! Sorry, great video, but terrible product, and I love DJI, just not this stupid OSMO! Yes, I shoot A LOT of video and photo
The OSMO is great if you already own the cameras for use on your drones. I already had the X5 for my Inspire, so the handle kit and adapter plate were only a few hundred dollars. After the investment in the X5, it was a no brainer for me.
+photoshopCAFE I have the Inspire1 Pro so I had big expectations for the OSMO. What a disappointment! Hard to connect wifi on that stupid OSMO, sound recording is crap and I had to hood up external mic, add this, add that, switch this, move that...... Give me a break! I finally stopped, looked at my stupid creation and said, "ok, now this is just stupid. What am I doing? I want it to work so bad I'm blinding myself of the obvious"
Hi Colin, great video thanks. I got the Osmo and X5 adapter recently and cannot get to change the aperture when in manual mode like I can on the Inspire (only the ISO and shutter speed). Do or did you have the same problem?
I've been thinking about getting the OSMO X3. It costs less than a one-hand stabilizer for my GH4 and it includes the camera. What do you think about the X3 as a camera in general? I'd like to use it when I'm traveling to keep a lower profile than even with the GH4.
Great video and well explained. Looking forward to getting the X5. One question - I guess with a fairly wide angle that it more or less stays in focus but can you use follow focus on this ?
Dear sir I'm a bit like you I have the inspire 1 the matric 100 with guidance and the osmo with my white camera The camera works on all three but I have lost the data of the iPhone. When you go in to app about the version data, camera, controler exc I always have trouble with the firmware up date, can you help thanks Norman UK Liverpool thanks
+Norman Sherrington the firmware can be a bit buggy. You can revert to an earlier version and try upgrading again, that usually clears the issues. also, completely remove the go app from your phone and do a fresh install.
thats bouncy because he walked to record it. profesional film maker use rail to make smooth record / not walking. or u can use skateboard whlie recording.
how much lag is there form the cam to phone screen? there is no wired monitor option? (I use gopro with removu wifi protable screen and thereis at least 1sec of lag not always great for high movment shots) also is the rolling shutter noticably bad read spec it was 11ms so that is pretty rough esp as the x5 is supposted to be pro level gear
You can't. Widest compatible lens is 12mm, costs $800, sold separately. The stock lens does 15mm. You'd be paying $800 for a 6mm effective focal length distance, from 30mm effective to 24mm.
Great to see some test footage of the X5 on the Osmo. I've done this in the opposite way, I have an Osmo with the X3 camera, I'm about to buy the Inspire 1 Pro, the plan being to use its X5 on both platforms. The Osmo seems to work very well with the X3 gimbal, but I've found the sound to be very disappointing. Not so much of an issue when the X3 is bolted to the underside of an Inspire as seldom will the original soundtrack be used, but a fairly major flaw in a handheld gimbal which I plan to use for PTC work. I obtained the DJI FlexiMic (which the retailer originally neglected to bundle with the Osmo) and whilst this is a great improvement, it still picks up a lot of noise from the gimbal motors/X3 cooling fan. I will need to look at some alternatives. Anyway as ever, thanks for the great videos, I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements in quality with the large sensor.
Salve....posso usare nello stesso dji osmo sia zenmuse x 3 che x 5 senza ogni volta aggiornare ? Uso già la x5 in inspire 1 e vorrei usarla anche in osmo
+nightwingsurfer no, it still has to be wifi. The handling is a bit more sensitive than the X3 and requires a gentle touch, i'll still need to fine tune settings, this was all with default settings. there is more weight, but not enough to tire you .
Lol, DJI is better, but NOT by a long shot. The iPhone 7's bitrate is 47 Mbps. The X5's is 60 Mbps. And the X5 has a horrendous setup time and carry weight for what is supposed to be a consumer-level for-fun camera.
***** It's hard to beat iPhone's convenience and carry weight. It's got no setup time, for what is essentially supposed to be "The camera you always have with you". That's apparently what the Osmo was supposed to be. "The gimbal you always have with you". Except you don't. You don't always have it with you, and if you're going to bother bringing equipment, you should bring a proper DSLR or production camera. You should be bringing actual equipment and not toys when you're being paid to put out good work. The Osmo is not a convenience camera and it's not a professional camera. It is effectively pointless. That makes it a toy.
***** Then get a Ronin M or Came-TV gimbal. It's cheaper than getting the Osmo, and it'll work with whatever _non-shit_ camera you already own. Ronin M even works with smaller production level cameras like the Blackmagic Cinema Camera or Ursa Mini. "If you're a casual filmer then you're right... the Osmo and Zenmuse cameras are not for you" What's funny is that it's not for casual filmers, but not for pros either. The quality's shit for ground work, and the Osmo itself isn't much more than a toy. I wouldn't be caught dead using an Osmo for a paid job. The Osmo and Zenmuse cameras are damned expensive, though, to the point where you'd expect it to be near production-camera quality. But it's nowhere near even a DSLR-level quality. The GH4 is way better than the X5 in every way, and you can easily buy a GH4 with a gimbal for far less than the Osmo Pro costs. And the funny thing is, I'm fairly certain a DSLR on a gimbal would be better than the Osmo for run-and-gun shoots. You need to hook up your iphone to the thing's wifi just to see what the hell it is you're shooting! With a DSLR, the screen is already attached to it. No shitty proxy transmitted over wireless required. DSLRs with gimbal mounts have less setup time, and get far superior footage at a much higher bitrate. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm angry at you. I'm not. I'm just angry at what a bad deal all of the Osmos are. I bought an Osmo handle since I already owned the Inspire 1 Pro, and I was floored by just how bad the footage looks on the ground. I'm frustrated that DJI is selling the Osmo Pro as if it's usable as a professional camera, when it's barely above the level of an iPhone.
Hi...if you load the OSMO firmware onto the X5 camera, how does the camera react when connected back onto the Inspire? Do you have to load the latest Inspire firmware back onto the camera, so each application requires a firmware revision, or does the X5 retain both and automatically switch according to the application. Appreciate the response ....thanks
Why does your set-up and use of the OSMO with X5 seem so much simpler than Quentin Visual? He had a lot of issues that were troubling. Have there been updates to firmware?
God its likes assembling a Rifle or something, God for bid you take it apart and then have to put it back together to get a really important shot of a lifetime
You should just use an iphone for "Shot of the lifetime" shots. No setup time. No extra load. And you should just use a DSLR or production camera for professional work. The Osmo Pro effectively has zero purpose. Don't spend $2K on it.
I purchased the Osmo Mobile so that I would have the ability to use an iPhone in the Mobile gimbal; which works fine. I have an Inspire 1 x5, so I bought the x5 adapter plate; but I can't find anything online on how to remove the mobile gimbal and install the x5 adapter plate. Is the Osmo Mobile not compatible with the x5 adapter? DJI is unresponsive and I can't find anything on their website to help me out. Might just end up returning it all... Wondering if there's an expert out here who knows?
seems to me the footage jump a lot when you walk, not the only one with this camera who looks like this all i have seen when the guy walks the image is not enough stabilized or look unrealistic
I can not get my x5 to update to save my life. please help ! I've downloaded the bin file from dji dropped it on to multiple sd cards an nothing. Green lights on camera an osmo . battery always fully charged. I've even bought another adapter thinking that was the problem. Now the light on the x5 is blinking red an the other 2 on osmo handle are green. dji customer service is shit !!!!!! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP please
Return it while you can. The Osmo Pro's so bad for professional video it's not worth updating. Also, you're probably just SOL anyways. Sometimes DJI products will inexplicably refuse to update.
MyFriendlyPup If you don't use the autofocus, the image is blurry shit. There is no manual focus. And because the autofocus isn't continuous, it's pretty much unusable for video. With the autoexposure on most cameras, you can leave it on aperture priority and the video exposes fine. With the Osmo, leaving it on autoexposure will ruin your shot almost every time.
haha, no.. no your not.. I have this setup and the silver was a head scratcher. Though it works great, it's sort of an awkward design, definitely can't wait to see where the platform goes though..
Check out the new DJI Ronin S where you can attach any camera th-cam.com/video/aS-DhYvgDkk/w-d-xo.html

Thanks so much for showing us
Still a great camera
Have you got the x7? 😊❤
I need your help , and thanks for your video , I had the same set up and I was never able to get it to work.
Are you on the the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica? Nice Video, thanks for the tutorial.
Nice Video. Low light performance was great.
I'm looking at the x5 osmo video you posted, looks great just wanted to find out.. What format did you shoot in and what sequence settings did you edit in? Trying to find the best workflow for editing.. Did you find any noise on playback I see its better than the previous dji osmo.. Thanks!
Hi Colin, a couple of questions:
1. After upgrading the FW, were there any issues when using the X5 back on the inspire?
2. Confusion about the tripod - according to DJI, the tripod is NOT compatible with the X5 adapter, is this true?
Thanks!
Why haven’t they made it work with the x5s camera?? Is there not an adapter or a different brand that can be used??
thank for the video, I have X3 and i want to upgrade to X5, but honestly the focal system doesnt make me really convinced
so the question is: X5 doest it have an infinity option? means everything can be focused like X3 or only u have to keep focusing on ur subject all the time?
thx alot again
Love this thank you
Can you do a lens comparison
I love the idea of this camera but two things are putting me off...1. the bounce when walking, I currently have a glidecam and this doesn't happen. 2. can the x5 accept pl filters on the lens and nd filters?
I dont why but this music and his voice really relax me for some reason haha

+Stephen Czaja yup, it was focused too far back, trouble with doing it yourself. Didn't want to redo it :)
Where does the recording take place on this camera? Are we able to use the X5S from Inspire 2 on this Gymbal?
This may need a 4th axis. You still see the walking movement which defeats the whole purpose of this rig. I bought the 4th axis for my X3 head and it didn't seem to help much. How well do you think this camera would handle walkthrough video (interior of homes for real estate). Does the camera adapt when the light changes?
I've done a few real estate videos with the osmo. I shot them with manual settings.
Here's a really great shoulder-mounted DSLR setup for interior walkthroughs for the same price as the Osmo Pro ($2K):
A Panasonic GH4 mirrorless: $1,300
A DSLR shoulder rig that can hold 15mm rods: Probably $50 to $300 depending on what you buy. I found a $70 one on Amazon.
15mm rods: Like $10 or less
Rokinon Cine Lens (any focal length): $500
Fotga follow focus: $100
The shoulder mount works better than the gimbal. The Osmo's stabilization is effectively just as good as using footage stabilization in post, there will still be up, down, left, and right vibration. Shoulder mount is far more stable just as long as you learn to roll step.
How much maximum weight X5 supports?

Hi Colin
There is a bounce as you walk. Is this a "feature" or is there some tuning that you still needed to do?
Thanks.
+Andrew Galloway I need to learn to walk more smoothly, maybe tune it out a little bit.
Hi Andrew, DJI have now released a z axis stabilisation bar so the Osmo will stabilise over 4 axis instead of 3.
+Mick Walker Not sure the Z Axis works with the X5 though
+Andrew Galloway "feature" lol, is there an option where I can turn this off?
Do you have the ability to focus with the X5 camera? I had the original Osmo and it always annoyed me that I couldn't for many applications I needed that for.
will that work with the Z-axis adapter? and can you mount that to a normal tripod, like a 35mm one, heavy duty.
the most helpful part of this.
download the firmware update onto the card.
thanks
Great review! I am so impressed. Can I ask you which lenses uses the X5 camera? Can I use my Panasonic MFT lenses? Thanks
You'll have to check compatibility on DJI's site. I use the 15mm and the Olympus 45mm which works well.
I noticed the moving/walking handheld shots had a rather bouncing motion (up/down). Is that normal? I would expect a more rock solid and stable image. Thx
dji has a a product called the "x-axis" that greatly reduces the up and down motion.
yes, i've seen that but imo the rig becomes to cumbersome with its use
Learn to roll step.

Hi Colin, great video thanks. I got the Osmo and X5 adapter recently and cannot get to change the aperture when in manual mode like I can on the Inspire (only the ISO and shutter speed). Do or did you have the same problem?
+Nick Stubbs I had the same issue. Maybe a bug, or they are yet to put that feature into this version of the osmo FW
I've been thinking about getting the OSMO X3. It costs less than a one-hand stabilizer for my GH4 and it includes the camera. What do you think about the X3 as a camera in general? I'd like to use it when I'm traveling to keep a lower profile than even with the GH4.
+Robert Shaver I've been using it until the X5 adapter. It's good quality as long as you have good light. It sucks in low light
How do you make the camera Zenmuse X5 (OSMO) work with the auto-focus ???
Great video and well explained. Looking forward to getting the X5. One question - I guess with a fairly wide angle that it more or less stays in focus but can you use follow focus on this ?
you can change focus on the app, or get an optional focus puller. you can do follow focus with it, but only manual, no auto follow
Many thanks for the answer ! I have seen the focus pillar from DJI. That would be a good setup. Cheers !
I need to know how to incorporate the Osmo X5 adapter on to a DIY drone so I can use the X5 camera. What would I need to do that?
once you upload the fw for osmo, you still can use the x5 on your Inspire?
yes you can
Anyone know if you can pan up and down as you are walking with the Osmo X5 set-up?
+jon11c yes, you can
This thing is amazing
Just what I was looking for, thanks mate.

thats bouncy because he walked to record it. profesional film maker use rail to make smooth record / not walking. or u can use skateboard whlie recording.
Hold it in flashlight mode, walk slightly crouched aka ninja, bounce sorted.
totally wrong, its suppose to be stable, i have the osmo and its not that jumpy, flashlight mode is the best and the long arm adapter
How is AF, specially at fast apertures and close distances?
+Valeri Torf It works well, but You have to manually change it by tapping, it doesn't do follow focus
how much lag is there form the cam to phone screen?

+Luke Roman not any noticeable lag. An attachable screen would be nice, but unlikely since it's really a drone camera
How good is the new Z axis stabilization, if you have used it? Sample footage?
Haven't tried the zadapter apart from at NAB
Will my DJI OSMO work with my new Zenmuse X5S Camera? If so which adapter do I need?
How about a new DJI handle that will be compatible with the Zenmuse X5S Camera?
Hi Sir can i use this for say filming a consert
How can I adapt this camera with the drone ?
Is it normal to have that much vertical movement in the video while walking? That would be a deal breaker for me vs.cost.
you can minimize it if you walk really slow and smooth, in my case I was walking normally for the test.
the night footage doesn't look very stablized to me it sort of bounces with walking why is that
Waiting x6 with sensor stabilization like a sony a7sII. osmo x5 or x3 have a problems with walking.
get the xy axis or wht ever its call it takes that out
Hi, I've have notice i've been shooting it at 30mm to what it was equivalent too. But can I shoot at 15mm wide?
thanks
You can't.
Widest compatible lens is 12mm, costs $800, sold separately. The stock lens does 15mm. You'd be paying $800 for a 6mm effective focal length distance, from 30mm effective to 24mm.
Will this work with the DJI Z-Axis Stabilizer?
📹 ... the camcorder, reinvented.... good work 👍

Hi Colin,
how does the handling differ with the x5 compared to the x3? Is there a possibility to connect your phone with a cable instead of wifi? thx.
+nightwingsurfer no, it still has to be wifi. The handling is a bit more sensitive than the X3 and requires a gentle touch, i'll still need to fine tune settings, this was all with default settings. there is more weight, but not enough to tire you .
want to use this for vlogging but the focus problem :(
does the phone holder take iphone plus?
does the recording goes to your android phone?
Dgi 4k recording vs a iPhone or Android 4K recording??? Which is better?
"If you're a casual filmer then you're right... the Osmo and Zenmuse cameras are not for you"
What's funny is that it's not for casual filmers, but not for pros either.
MyFriendlyPup If you NEED a gimbal, use the Ronin M. Not the Osmo.
So when I turn on the Osmo handle (x5 mounted with adapter) the camera sits limp... HELP PLEASE
It needs Viagra :) Probably needs a firmware update by dropping bin file into sd card... power off then back on.
Great video. Also appreciate the info. Where can I purchase the adapter?

Thanks
How do you stop The bouncing motion!! Or was I seeing things
Learn to walk more smoothly. A gimbal can't correct everything.
what osmo version is it
i think it is worth to upgrade X5 pro awesome shot.
Its fun for sure
Thanks man. What is the price for this set. I am serious.
the X5R is arround $3,500 ecluding the accessories. im almost complete my accessories it's hard to order here in lao you need to wait for two mos.
Hi can u use the z axis arm with the x5
I don't think so. Maybe in the future
which one is good osmo mobile phone or osmo x5 pro?
Muy bien explicado, muy interesante, lo felicito.
+cubster4 The firmware works for both the inspire and the X5. Can switch back and forth
+photoshopCAFE same question I have. So you can switch firmware on the go? Or do you need to plug it into a computer to change firmware?
+keola36 You put the Micro SD card into the computer and then into the osmo
+photoshopCAFE Perfect, Thank you for the quick response! Subbed
That's so bada$$! Like my OSMO but on steroids. The test shots look spectacular too!
+AMaeTV Thanks for saying
ola....preciso de um video desse em português....obrigado...
Can I use the z axis with the x5?
Why does your set-up and use of the OSMO with X5 seem so much simpler than Quentin Visual? He had a lot of issues that were troubling. Have there been updates to firmware?
+columbiabuzz I'm sorry, I don't know who Quentin Visual is. Update the app and the firmware, no issues.
He is just another vlogger that I viewed looking for all the good and bad associated with the OSMO & X5 pair. Thanks for the response.
Black gadget in front of black t-shirt.
🤣🤣🤣 so smart
I purchased the Osmo Mobile so that I would have the ability to use an iPhone in the Mobile gimbal; which works fine. I have an Inspire 1 x5, so I bought the x5 adapter plate; but I can't find anything online on how to remove the mobile gimbal and install the x5 adapter plate. Is the Osmo Mobile not compatible with the x5 adapter? DJI is unresponsive and I can't find anything on their website to help me out. Might just end up returning it all... Wondering if there's an expert out here who knows?
Sweet. Just won an Ebay auction. Got it with lense for 1210$. Then scored OSMO adapter for 57$.
i know it does 4k, but is it 60fps or 30fps?
30 in 4k
Higher in lower res
really nice!
seems to me the footage jump a lot when you walk, not the only one with this camera who looks like this all i have seen when the guy walks the image is not enough stabilized or look unrealistic
great ! thank you !
dont run? the steady is for run or stairs
With the Osmo, leaving it on autoexposure will ruin your shot almost every time.
which is the camera settings?
I really don't remember, nothing special though
Am I the only one annoyed at how the phone holder is silver not Black like everything else
Also is the phone mount universal or just iPhones
i sprayed painted mine with VHT matte black paint
haha, no.. no your not.. I have this setup and the silver was a head scratcher. Though it works great, it's sort of an awkward design, definitely can't wait to see where the platform goes though..
have anyone used a iPad instead of the phone? Thanks
Had it A Track mode , Who can Follow a Object
It's me or the stabilization on X3 is better that X5?
X5 is a lot heavier
Actually looks quite poor when walking around without an z axis arm. Apart from that it's pretty awesome.
