    U can also boil water and put the clay inside. It will harden the same. Beats putting in the oven.

      +Billy Raby Awesome!! :D if you are going to try sculpting use Testators Clear coat lacquer. it works best with super Sculpey clay. If you are just painting you can go ahead and use Krylon Crystal Clear. Hope that's not to confusing. Best of luck!!! :)

      +Team Super Awesome Art if there is even a difference between the two lol

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Danii Gibbs I do like Sculpey a lot. The reason being is they have a few different types of Sculpey clay varying in firmness. Also I know how Sculpey clay reacts to heat, paint , primer, etc. I'm not sure what you mean by actual clay though? Do you mean like an air dry clay? If so you have to be careful with air dry clay. they tend to shrink when they dry and that leads to cracking if used on a pop.

    I just bought a Pop figure of the Titan from Titanfall 2. It seems very stiff and was wondering if there are any parts that can be removed. i want to strip all the paint and redo the whole paint job. I would just start pulling myself, but i don't want to break it by accident.
    mind you, this is my first pop figure, so I'm not sure what I can and can't do (other than it being like Munnies).

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the most part if there is a seam you can heat it up a bit to melt the glue and you should be a able to remove that limb. I haven't worked with that pop so I'm not sure what can be removed. Also you don't have to strip factory paint if you are priming the pop. Primer will cover there factory paint. Hope this helps a bit :)

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't have to remove the paint on pops. Some vinyls you do have to but not pops. You be find especially if you plan on priming the pop.

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, with the female pop bodies being so small this is common. You have to be careful of how much sculpting you do on the head when the body is tiny. You can always build your sculpt with tin foil and then sculpt on top of that so that the sculpt is lighter.

    What do you mean by the paint doesn’t ‘stick’ to the vinyl?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vinyl has a vary smooth surface and Acrylic paint will peel off of vinyl. In order to prevent this we prime our pops. Primer will stick to the vinyl and won't peel off. Then you can paint on top of the primer with Acrylic paint.

    My original character that i have has ginger hair and he kinda looks like Adlet from this anime i watched but its because its his second regeneration
    what funnko pop should i get to customize?
    forgot to mention hes a feminine male so would i use a female funko pop for it?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would pick a pop hat most looks like your vision so that your customizing will be easiest. Funko makes a few anime style pops. I'd say look at those to see if you find something you can work with. You can use a female pop if it matches the look you are going for, I'd say try and pick one that already resembles what you are going for. Less work. :)

    "Sticky" is caused by the actual plastic and paint combination, nothing to do with humidity. FYI. In the model making world the term "Tackiness" or "Tacky" is the correct terms when talking about that particular issue. Great video btw.

    • @MrWhisperASMR
      @MrWhisperASMR 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your video is very informative, I need to try brush on sealer. In all the years ive been doing custom ive never used it. I wonder if you can reduce it and shoot it through an airbrush?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Evilos Customs I Like that brush on sealer because it doesn't react to any of the clay or epoxies so I don't have to worry what I'm using when I'm sculpting. We do use a spray on seal for all our 3D printed figures. The pray does give the figures a super shiny glossy seal that looks really good on those figures and the spray doesn't react to the printer filament or paints we use on those so it always gives a great result.
      That is a super good question, I have never tried the seal with airbrush. I feel like it drys a little faster then paint so it might be tricky but it wouldn't hurt to try. I'm surprised they don't make a seal to use with spray guns. I never thought to look into that.

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +IckleSwitch Candy These are custom so I can give any of them the more classic black Pop eye upon request. In fact it would be way easier to just paint black dots for eyes. :) It's just fun to sometimes think outside the box and really get to be creative. I've noticed even Funko being creative and adding more details into eyes every now and then, like there new Cheshire Cat Pop doesn't have black eyes.

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use our home oven. according to the Sculpey website it is safe to use in your home oven. But I do suggest taking a look at the site yourself before deciding if it's something your be comfortable doing. They also make small clay baking ovens. they sell them on amazon and at craft stores. :)

    Great stuff , my question is is it safe to bake the Funko Pop figures in the oven just wondering if there isn't any toxins that would omit from what the company uses ? I know super sculpty is baked that way just curious before attempting. I use green stuff but it's more expensive but self hardens problem is it's very sticky when working with .

    Do you know how to possibly sand the hands to make them smaller, but without totally destroying them? I got a blank doll, and I don't like how the hands are so big. Do you have any tips or instructions?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have to cut the hands off and sculpt new ones. Vinyl is very hard to sand smooth because is it rubbery and not a hard surface.

    Hi! Did you have to remove the paint from the existing funko pops before sculpting and baking them? Does it not melt in the oven?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi no you don't have to remove the paint, just prime the pop before you paint. The pop doesn't melt because the temperature is not hot enough.

    Isn't putting the clay in the oven going to contaminate the food you cook in there afterwards?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use super sculpey clay and it is oven safe and does not let out any toxins. If you are at all worried please visit Super Sculpey website and read their product overview to get all the info one their product. If you are really worried about using the product in your home oven they do sell small craft ovens that you can use instead of your home oven. I use it in my home oven but I would definitely read up on the product and decide for yourself on how you'd like to go about using the product.

    Does anyone know if you can you use Liquitex Prof Acrylic Heavy Body???? I know she uses soft but just wondering if you can use any acrylic type of paint.

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      YuriSama4 yes you can use any acrylic paint. The texture of your paint might be a little different but it should work just the same. You might want to thin out the paint with some water if you find it's ti thick. Best wishes with your project. :)

      The Wreck It Ralph Pop I used was given to me because it was quite scuffed up and had no box so it was definitely not worth the price you quoted. Instead of throwing it out I took it and made something different with it. You should definitely try and take a Pop that is on sale/marked way down or one that has been used or to warn to display and turn it into something you made. Maybe give it as a gift to a loved one. :) Who knows you might be great at it!

    Have you guys ever worked with Apoxie sculpt? I have some and I was wondering if it works with pops well too. Also, does the vinyl not melt in the oven?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, yes we do use Apoxie from time to time and it works well with pops. And pops do fine in the oven at the temperature needed to cure clay.

  • @CocoCat274
    @CocoCat274 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had to cut off and sand away a few parts from a base pop. I did my best to sand down the vinyl to be as smooth as possible, but of course it’s not as sleek as the surrounding, untouched vinyl. Will the difference in texture be glaring after I paint it? Should I try to sand it down more? (I’m considering putting a very thin layer of Sculpey over the sanded parts. Could that work?)

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      did you prime after you were done sanding? that should get rid if the inconsistency.

    • @CocoCat274
      @CocoCat274 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Team Super Awesome Art No, I haven’t painted it at all. So a primer will even out the texture? Interesting. Thanks!

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the primer will give you an even base. If anything you can sand the primer and then re-prime if needed.

    Great video! I have several I want to make but don't have the money to commission them. I was wondering if you know how using apoxie sculpting stuff would work? I've seen several other videos using that, so I'm not sure if I should use that and paint it, because then I have more customization for my colors and no need to bake, or if I should bake and use clay, as it seems that's what most people do. Do you have any tips for either for a first time funko maker?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337

      YOu can use Epoxy. We use epoxy but my personal preface is clay. You can use whatever you are most comfortable using they both work on vinyls. :)

    Hi i am thinking of making a custom pop figure and bought DAS modelling clay, what are your thoughts on DAS modelling clay compared to supersculpey clay, is there a big difference between the two? Thanks :)

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zedito Fate I've never used DAS so I couldn't tell you if it will work to sculpt on Pops. Usually the way air dry clay works is once you take it out of the package the moister in the clay begins to dry out allowing it to harden. I found that this causes the clay to shrink slightly. The biggest concern would be once put the clay on the pop and it shrinks it might crack. Like I said I've never used that brand but maybe look into the product and find out if it tends to shrink. I hope this helps a little. Thanks for watching and let me know how it goes!! :) ~ Jenny

    I'm looking to make an original tron funko pop. I think I'm getting a little over zealous but, I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I was going to try an make a clear resin in the body and head to act as the lines for neon. I was going to place a led light inside the pop. My question to you before I start working on it, are the bodies hollow? Will this work at all? Any thoughts?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bodies are generally solid and the heads are hollow. thoough I have seen artist that do add light the body so it can be done. I'm not quite sure how you are going to use the resin making it hard to give advice on how to go about it. I hope this helps a little best of luck with your project!! :)

    • @JBenadon3
      @JBenadon3 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I figured I would paint on the decals of the suit and helmet and then cut them out. Afterwards I was going to make a clear resin to fill in those spaces putting the led light inside the vinyl doll. If it is sold it might make this much harder. I guess I will have to play around with the idea some more before I start. Thanks!

    Do you have to prime it? Is it possible to just paint

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sam Nesselle You can just paint on a pop with out priming. It not an absolute must. The reason I prime to to make sure the paintwork will last and wont chip. Also the colors on the pop might come through so you might have to give it a few coats to get full coverage depending on the paint/colors you are using.

    hi, I seen a lot of your videos and you have a great works, congratulations.
    I have a question about the baking the supersculpey in this kind of custom. How much time and what temperature do you use for baking the sculpey in the vynil figure?. I really fear to damage the funko and all my process on it.
    Thank you very much for these videos, It's a real help for me in this work.
    I see you from spain ( Sorry about my english).
    continue like this, thanks again!! I'm motivated to continue with more projects.

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thank you for watching :) You can use the directions on the back of the sculpey box and use the temperature it says there. Just watch your figure because all ovens are different if it's too hot lower the temperature and leave it in for 5 more min. or so. Your vinyl wont melt but it might get to soft if it's to hot so just watch the temperature. Best of luck with all your future projects!!! :)

    Quick question: the only color brands near where I live are Americana, Folkart and Apple barrel - I'm having trouble finding the right color for flesh tones (I need ones for a Caucasian pop and an African American pop) do you have any recommendations for a specific color amongst these specific brands?

    • @teamsuperawesomeart4337
      @teamsuperawesomeart4337  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, If you can't find the color you are looking for you might have to mix to get the right pigments. So use a brown that is close to that you want and add white and reds and it will allow you to change tones.

      Follow the temperature listed on the clay you are using. All ovens are different so you might have to adjust by lowering the heat and upping the time you leave the pop in the oven. just kind of watch the pop and if it gets too soft adjust the heat. The pop wont melt at the clay curing temperature it might bet a little soft then harden back up once it's cool.
