My home is called Bluehouse because blue is my favorite color . My husband told me he would build me a blue house & give me a pink baby if I married him. He built my house in l976 & that pink baby Dana was born in 1977. My husband died 20 yrs. ago. I could not change the color of this house even if I wanted to. It is him.

Hi Linda, I am a 76-year-old grandmother and I Live alone and everything has a name. My home is named Wildwood. When I first built this home it was deep in the woods and we called it the house in the Wildwood and over the years it has been shortened to Wildwood. My car is named Pearl. She’s white and shiny. I even name my plants. I have a beautiful deep red coleus named Miss Ruby and recently I wanted my deck to have a more tropical feel and I got a banana tree and named her Carmen Miranda. She has become the queen of the deck and is showing off daily by putting on a big new leaf every day. This makes it fun for me and I was glad you talked about this topic. Love in Christ.

About 25 years ago my collection of treadle sewing machines started. Soon there was a row of machines along the wall behind our sofa. My husband called it Treadle Alley, the breakfast nook with four machines became Treadle Plaza and he called our home Treadle Boulevard. Since he was an architectural illustrator I asked for signs. He made them like French street signs, blue, and white. I lost my dear hubby to cancer 2 1/2 years ago and everywhere I look I think about him. Paintings and shelves for my tea pots and his signs decorate my home. Hugs to all from Travel Boulevard.

I know about 15 to 17 years ago we bought our first property, not the one that we’re on… I came across this amazing little British plate that had a poem on it that read
“as I was wondering o’r the glen, not knowing where I went, I chanced upon a pleasant scene the Cottage of Content…”
It was a beautiful brown and white transfer where plate that had a beautiful little cottage scene on it… That spoke to me on so many levels… About being content with what God gives us, and just that beautiful, precious contented feeling that we all need to reach! we’ve since moved from that place, but I was in the works to get assigned made for our home that was called the cottage of content!❤

Loved this one! Five years ago we bought an 1848 home which was originally built as a Vicorian. In the 1960's new owners stripped it to mimic a colonial . I love this home and the tranquility it gives me. I've toyed with the idea of naming since I moved here. I felt it deserved it. The interior has remained pretty close to the original floorplan, and the outside brick half walls kept. "Brickside?"

I lived for a time in a beautiful condo community in a valley in a busy suburban area, but in our valley you could not hear any noise, just nature; cars moved slowly and people took walks not having to worry about cars, and it was beautifully landscaped. I called our community the "Peaceful Valley" because of that peaceful place close to everything and in the middle of busyness.

We bought a home in Michigan about 7 years ago. It was supposed to be our “transition into retirement home.” That was the original plan, but It’s now become a summer home where we travel to escape the intense heat in the southwest! . I love this adorable little farmhouse 15 blocks from the bay. It was built in 1896 and when I bought it there was a big star on the side of the house that we kept. I didn’t know it tugged at my heart until one day I called it “my little Star house on the corner!” Since we are usually there over the 4th of July, I was inspired to decorate with a vintage patriotic theme using the “Star” as my inspiration. The name has morphed into “My Star House!” I never really thought about naming a home much, but I love the idea that it really gives even more charm and character to our endeared dwelling space!! I’m thinking I want to get a sign made now!!! TFS, Linda!! 👏🏻🙌👍

That was so nice of you making all those flower arrangements for the club. Thank goodness some other people donated some flowers. Kind of sad it got left to you alone. BUT you created beautiful arrangements and came to the rescue.
On naming our home…I have been coming up with ideas for a few years. It is an adorable small home and front was from late 1800’s.
I felt the name needed to include the word “cottage” because of it’s size as well as giving it a cozy feeling. I have also described it as my dollhouse, considered naming it simply “The Cottage” or “Murf’s Cottage” for our last name Murphy. But just this week my husband suggested “The Birdhouse” and that would , for me imply a small home, as well as it seems to be a bird sanctuary of sorts.
We had a nest of Goldfinch for the first time in our large rhododendron bush at our side entry. and a yearly returning bird nest we leave, in the same side entry open porch ceiling ledge, 😅who has a couple of broods a summer. We feed hummingbirds, have two birdhouses that are being used. Will have to bounce the idea off our adult daughter.

Hi Linda. Loved your video! My husband & I just returned from Connecticut after going on a garden tour of Mar Jennings home named Rosebrook Gardens. Ruth McKeaney, often seen on Homeworthy episodes, named her home Hillside Farms. We were so inspired by them to name our own home, that we decided on Corner Cottage since it is so quaint & is situated on the corner of our cul de sac. We installed a plaque on the front of the house & I plan to have cocktail napkins & paper hand towels for our powder bath made & inscribed with the name as well. Thank you for dedicating an episode on this long ignored tradition. It makes you fall a little more in love with your home when you honor it in this way. Blessings to you!! ❤

It was grey in color and being a frontier-style home it looked old! Our current home's name is "The Greenleaf Cottage". It is a small Cape Cod home with free and natural gardens, we are naturalists, and it is also the name of the street we live on. I live in a very small cottage in a beautiful rural county in Virginia. Needless to say I am surrounded by old historic homes with long established names, including perhaps one of the most well known houses in America, Monticello. And a number of these estates have the word "view" at the end of their names. Cliff View, River View, Mountain View etc. So I decided to follow that tradition and call my humble home Padavue. I’ve named our homes just to keep up with who’s who so to speak. Most I named after the street or neighborhood. The house we live in now is in the Country and we are surrounded by mostly woods and honeysuckle permeates this area every time I walk out the door. So this home is Honeysuckle Cottage. We won’t live here much longer, we will be off to the next adventure in home building. I never named a home until moving to Athens, Ohio in 2018. A large plot of land, rolling hills, trees, and gardens galore added up to a very different experience for this former suburban and city dweller. I named it Shadowy Hills. When, 4 years later, I accepted another job move involving another promotion, I moved back to my hometown. I call this house in my hometown Heart's Ease Cottage, inspired by the solace of moving back to my hometown, and a common name of a favorite flower (a type of viola often called heartsease). Good Afternoon Linda… My homes name is “the Little House. “ My home was built in the late 1880s. I bought it from my son and his wife. And their oldest daughter came home to this house after she was born. She always refers this house as The Little House” so that is the name of my home. it’s a very quirky home nothing is plum But it is Home. I love love your channel, and I get so much information. And I am binge watching to catch up. I think my favorites are your fall and your Christmas decorating. As this are my favorite times of year.

We named our property of 7.5 acres in rural Maine, STONEROW FARM. It is bordered on the west by 1K feet of stonewall which meanders through the woods and merges with another perpendicular stonewall. This intersection is heavily laden with stones to prevent a washout of the two stonewalls from naturally draining water runoff in spring or the wet season, About 200 feet along the stonewall (marking our driveway) is a gap that a local historian said was used as a travel way in winter when the main road was blocked by heavy snow.

Our house and property is Buck Creek. There is a creek that runs right by our home. The very first time we visited our property there was a huge buck deer standing in the creek. His rack was large and he was amazing. We bought the property and built our home and Buck Creek came into existence. Our 5 children and 16 grandchildren have played in our creek and ran through the woods. We've lived, loved, laughed, and cried here for 41wonderful years. Love from Missouri

First, the flower arrangements you made were just lovely. I am going to have to really think about what name suits my home. It is a 1941 cape in CT, which we added a front porch to. I am surrounded by oak trees. I think it may involve hydrangea in the name, because I have many bushes and hydrangea trees planted around the home over the last 30 years. I would call my style of decorating "cottage" and I have been told by guests that my home is cozy and reminds them of a B and B. I will let you know what I come up with! Have a great week! 💗

Our last name is Brod and it rhymed with Abode. Simple. Our koi pond off the patio is Dragonfly Pond because of the dozens of dragonflies who love to visit and will even land on my finger. My SUV is named Gus. Long story there. I loved the arrangements and would enjoy stealing that urn for my home, lol. I look forward to you every Sunday. xoxTXDeb

I found an old quilt block pattern called Handy Andy, well my husband is Andy and he is handy, so our sign is the Handy Andy quilt block with DK Basket Hobby Farm over the pattern... and naming your place is fun, part of you, so yes, name your place!!!

This is one of my all-time favorite videos. I'm from KY and its a common thing to see homes with names in the South. The very wealthy always had their plantations named while in present day northern Kentucky, all the huge horse farms are named. I have a friend who named her home " Chickadee Ridge" because she has lots of Chickadees and her home is on a ridge.

A bit late watching this week. Storms passed through Nashville yesterday and my electric was out for hours!
Naming a home or property reminded me of several places here in Tennessee, but when Rattle and Snap crossed my mind I had to comment! Yes, Rattle and Snap in Mt. Pleasant, TN. It was won in a crap game at one point so the name was given to represent the sounds of the dice game. The "Rattle" of shaking the dice and the "Snap" of letting them go.
My Grandparents referred to the farm where I grew up as "Owl Hollow". Sitting on the porch in summer you would hear owls all night.

My house is one of one in the farmland area of central California. There's a big field behind me which to me lookslike a prairie I have two grand decks that overlook it so I think it's apropos

One of the best videos ever! Love how thoughtful you were with the bouquets. 💐 Many years ago, we came close to buying a beautiful home we were renting with a view of the sea. A family of foxes was born there that year and I thought if we bought the house I would name it “Sea Fox Run”, a play on words for the practice line (“See fox run”) one would type when learning how to use a typewriter. I bought my 850 sq ft house last summer. It had been in the same family for 73 years. With many built in shelves and crown moldings, done by the first generation husband. All of the interior doors have glass knobs. The first few pieces of vintage furniture I got also had glass drawer pulls. At this point, about 11 months in there are now many additional pieces with glass knobs, totalling more than 30 and counting.... so I live in THE GLASS KNOB Cottage ❤

Love this topic! I literally just (2 days ago) moved into our newly built home that I have called the Riverhouse…for obvious reasons. All my life I have wanted to name my home but always felt that people might think that I was being pretentious. But I finally did it and if others don’t like it, then that’s their problem! I grew up loving old English literature and they always have house names! Don’t wait for someone else to romanticize your life…. Do it yourself!

My house is named “ Buttonwood”. I have lived here for 35 years and my husband and I named it when we first moved in. We have two wonderful Buttonwood trees at the head of our meadow. These trees are also referred to as Sycamores. My husband wrote a poem for me about the ghostly look to buttonwood trees when we were dating. I love this tree and when we fell in love with our 1945 saltbox and we noticed these two buttonwood trees we knew that would be our house- our home’s name- it was once a 52 acre farm!
My husband grew up in Buck’s County PA and his house was Friendly Acres. Later he owned a home named - Little Farm. Love names of homes!!!

This is a "no matter how simple or grand" story. Some 30 years ago, I moved into a lovely, moderate home with a yard and garden needing help. I couldn't wait to get started outside! But what a monumental chore - the ground was full of stones! I decided to name the property StoneHaven, for surely half the city's rocks decided to take up residence in my backyard. No one knew what I named it, except those who would receive mail from me: on my address labels, between my name and the address, it read StoneHaven.

Linda, such a great topic for a video. 23 years ago we bought property that had a creek running thru it so our place was called Casey Creek. Recently, we built a barndomimium in our barn and named it “The Buck Shed”. My husband is an avid hunter of big bucks and we also enjoy searching for buck sheds! Gonna build a new home on the river and will certainly be naming it as well! We even name different areas on our farm so we know where hunters will be ; Walnut grove,The Orchard, Death Valley (my son killed a big buck here), Pipeline, The Bowl.
Loved your floral arrangements, the urn was stubbing!
