YOU ARE DA MAN!!!!! I've had my 'Music in Motion' for roughly 20 years. After about 2 years of ownership, this problem occurred. I went in and was able to work it back to a normal clock face and there it sat. I've been to 3 specialists and contacted 2 Seiko repair/parts centers with Seiko telling me to toss it because it couldn't be fixed. I refused because the clock kept correct time and it was nice to look at. Every couple of years I looked online with no luck... and low and behold I found your video... Problem solved it 2 minutes and now my family can enjoy our clock once again. TY... TY... TY... TY...TY... TY... TY... TY...TY... TY... TY... TY...TY... TY... TY... TY...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!!! My clock hasn't worked correctly in months. There was some corrosion on the battery contacts so I first tried cleaning that, but that did not solve it (at least not on its own). My clock isn't the same as the one in the video, but the lever and gear that are the focus of the video look to be the same. For those saying they cannot see what's happening in the video, if you look at 0:48 for that literal one second, you can see a large, brown gear on the left. I had to spin it to the left an inch or so, and then the clock worked again. What was happening in my case was the gear was too far to the right so when the hour hit, the gear would get centered with the little white tab too quickly and think that it had completed its cycle.
I was so happy that this video was available. I had the exact problem. I was getting ready to buy a new one. It wasn't working so I figured I had nothing to loose by opening it up. Thank you so much
Today is October 29, 2021. I have the same clock. Ordered it last spring. Hung it around July. Two weeks ago I had to put new batteries in. The clock quit chiming. I have watched your repair video a dozen times. It is dark an I can't see anything to center. I am heart broken an don't know what to do. Is it possible you show a lighter pix of how to fix. Dear sla1er1, guess who is completely embarrassed?...me. I could not find a manual on the Seiko website for this 2007 model, so I downloaded any other one of their older Melodies in Motion clock manuals hoping it would be "close enough", and while viewing the illustrations I noticed in addition to 4 places to install C cell batteries, there was a 5th one up where the manual wheel for the clock was. It was so recessed on this model QXM531ZRH that I could not see it without a flashlight, and yes, THAT additional AA missing was the problem with the clock not keeping time. Color me red-faced and purple, and I am going to make myself stand in the corner now for wasting your time....please forgive me for doing so, and thank you for helping so many of us who have benefited by your postings. Have a wonderful holiday season!
I have found that when the batteries grow weak, the mechanical display on the face will stop, usually halfway through its motion and appear stuck while the time on the clock continues to work. New batteries will finish the motion and return the clock to full function. Thanks for the tip on the switch. That's a new one for me.

Ok, This is how I fixed my Seiko clock. First you have to use a good Philips screwdriver size PH00 (zero,zero). It has to be long enough to reach deep into the screw holes. Take your time and don't strip the screws or you will have a hard time ever removing them. Once you remove 6-8 screws you lift the back cover. In mine the batteries can stay installed without problem. Next you want to look at the mechanism and the switch as shown on the video. Mine clock I think skipped a gear. And when I pressed the button the intro melody would start and for a second or two and the actual melody would play but the movement would not initiate. To reset that mechanism I pushed the bigger white gear counterclockwise a couple times and I was pressing the button to advance the motion. after a couple times the movement would start moving but stopped not in the right position. Just press the melody buttons a couple times until the numbers and face plates will realign again. And then test it a couple times and it should work. But remember to be gentle when pushing the gears so not to damage the smaller plastic gears. Just move the larger gear counterclockwise! I hope this help some and Good Luck!! It will be worth it!! PS. there was a question regarding a fifth battery and when I opened the compartment I saw the place for the battery, but it was blocked by two plastic pins so I think this is used for some models but not all. I myself didn't try to break off those two pins to install additional battery.

Not sure if I'm having the same issue-I received my clock as a gift (not even sure how old it is) the batteries were covered w/ corrosion so my bf cleaned the whole area off, but still the clock wasn't working. He tweeked around w the coil where one of the batteries were, and it came on-for about 3 seconds! It plays a few notes, and then it starts to play a song, but after a second, it goes back to those few notes. Then nothing. This happens on the hour, so it seems like it wants to play a song, but for some reason it stops. I'm desperate so I'll try whatever sounds like it may work. I really hope it does. i have a melody in motion clock, fanthom of the opera that goes off when it wants to it should separate then play than go back to original ho do i reset it?
Any idea why it stops the centering of the lever? It worked perfectly for 3 months then stopped, batteries ok clock keeping time, but melodies and movement stopped with not returning dial. Now I am getting a replacement for my QXM356B, but it looks to me its a manufacturer fault? Could it need a tiny bit of silicon lube? (Minute minute amount) or is it an electrical contact (graphite?)
My clock is a 2007 with different melodies and a switch to play Christmas tunes instead when desired. It was in storage for 4 yrs, without batteries and wraped in about 1/2 roll of bubble wrap and made completely stable in a heavy duty, slightly oversized box. I have now unpacked it and there is no sign of damage to box or clock. Installed new batteries but clock no longer actually advances in time or keeps time at all unless I manually advance the hands to do so. When I move the time to the hour, all the musical and moving parts work well and play like it always did. Do you have any suggestion as to how to get the clock to keep time again? Thank you for taking time to consider a solution.
Used to have same symptoms. That white switch is probably the limit switch. It stuck because of the little rubberish pad right behind it got flattened and started sticking out. I clipped that pad and that solved my problem.

i have a seiko music in motion clock and it plays 6 beatles songs however all of sudden the song hey jude it cuts off(stops)....even when i push the test button it does the same thing with just that song..PLEASE HELP

I tried this fix for my clock I just bought yesterday. It played immediately while I still had it face-down. As soon as I put the back cover on, it worked, but once it was hung on the wall, it stopped. I think I’m going to return it. I have seen numerous complaints on different websites about these Seiko clocks.

Hi - my clock works but when it finishes the melody it separates again about a quarter turn. any thoughts?
What did you tap at the lower portion after you placed the lever to the right?

how do yo remove the glass to tightend the clocks hands.....the hour doesnt stay its all loose ty in advance!

I have the new 2023 version. It will not play on the hour. Only plays when I press the demo button.
