- This algebra and precalculus video tutorial provides a basic introduction into geometric series and geometric sequences. It explains how to calculate the common ratio of a geometric sequence and how to determine the nth term of a geometric sequence. It explains how to write a general equation for a geometric series using a simple formula and how to calculate the partial sum of a geometric series as well as the infinite sum if the geometric series converges. if it diverges, the sum cannot be calculated. This video also highlights the difference between the arithmetic mean and the geometric mean. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems.

I wish I knew the finite geometric series formula existed, I always thought it did not matter if it was finite or infinite, and that all geometric series would simplify to a/(1-r). This made the most sense out of everywhere I looked. Thank you!

Why would you have a formula for what is basically a root equation, then literally have a root equation inside of the equation that is pretty much the answer?
This is rubbish to me.
Example, 2, 4, 16, 32, 64 etc....
If I want to find the 10th number, I STILL HAVE TO USE A SQUARE ROOT IN THE EQUATION....IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME
