I haven't truly smiled for most of my life to be honest... I've smiled but most were just fake smiles.... (I'm like 15 right now) ever since I lost my mom at 6-7 years old I feel like a nobody. My mom is still alive (she's not dead omg) she's just trapped in another country cuz her passport expired. And she's coming back next month! And stuff has been horrible ever since she left. My brothers been harassing me and bullying me, my dad is dating some lady with a son that isn't nice to us, I have to wake up at like 5 in the morning to walk my dog who doesn't even like me! Life's been aweful.... But I never gave up.. Listening to this song.. Having a friend who actually cares about me, being on my iPad or computer drawing, my minecraft friends, hoping that my mom will come back... That's what kept me going. If you skipped this cuz it's too long. I respect that. If you took the time to read this, thank you.
Guys if you're trying to commit suiside or thinking of it. Don't. Live up your lives to the fullest. Never give up. You'll find a way into the light somehow. I'm crying right now because I'm reading all of theses comments and it's making me realize how much other people have it worse than me and I feel shitty for making it seem like my life is so hard when really I have it easier than anyone i know. This song also makes me remember all the sad times in my life like when my grandfather died and when my uncle died and when I lost so many friends from different places. Saying you can’t be sad since someone have it worse is like saying you can’t be happy if someone else have it better. I, too, had once learned of what other people are going through and chastised myself for crying and telling myself to be stronger. But after reading this quote (my first sentence) I realized that it was ok for me to cry, because even though some may have it worse, that doesn’t mean you’re still not hurting, no matter what it may be. If you ever feel the need to cry, do it. This is the advice I wish I had given myself when I was younger... but it’s not too late (◡‿◡ )

Every time I listen to this video I think of my late dog, Shadow, who passed away last year from cancer. I had him for 10 years and he went through all my struggles with me in my teen years, through my young(er) and crazy years. No matter how bad things got in school, family, friends, love or lack of, HE was always there every night to keep me warm and love me no matter what I did. When i hear this song I see him playing in the rain like he always loved to do. It could be pouring a thunderstorm or a simple $2 sprinkler on the hose spraying in the backyard. Either way he was in heaven and enjoyed every last drop and would always run back to me to make sure I was okay and shake all his wet fur drops on me lol.

My grandmother, who lives in Puerto Rico, she had this one dog that I will never forget. His name was Duke. Duke was an old soul, and preferred to lay down and watch me and my brothers wrestle on the pavement.
He lived to be...14, I believe. I just recently turned 13.
He was there, all my life for me, whenever I visited my grandmother, or she visited me.
One day, my grandmother calls me frantically, crying that Duke's got into a fight. He noticed that a poisonous snake had slithered into her property, and to protect us, he tried to fight it off before it could try to hurt any of us. While 'in battle', my uncle opened the gate to my grandmother's property and let in some stray dogs accidentally. The strays leaped to attack Duke, who was already preoccupied with the snake. Outnumbered, poor Duke was left on the floor, covered in blood, gashes, and ants. One of his legs were broken, his left ear had been bitten off, and he had bite marks all over....
My grandmother, small and frail, had watched as her own 'child' was murdered.

When I was in first grade to third grade, I got bullied. Like an unusual amount of bullying. And it wasn't just me but, my two friends too. My best friend had social anxiety and could not be other places without me or our other friend. We all got bullied, based on what we looked like and how we dressed up. Me and my friend with social anxiety switched school, where we also got bullied until we told everyone in class how we felt. My friend started playing soccer. And he got some new friends. He overcame his social anxiety. But as time went by, we grew apart. He's still my friend but, we are not best friends anymore. I'm always alone in the breaks. I don't want people to talk to me. No one speaks to me. Except for one guy but, he is almost never at school because he has something in his head that gives him headaches worse than being stabbed. So I'm basically by myself. The rule on our school says: Accept each other no matter who they are. But I know, everybody judges me for being who I am. I'm not allowed in the other groups with the other kids. I only have three friends. The guy who didn't switch school, a childhood friend who lives two hours away from me (in car) and my cousin who lives four hours away. And my friend who lives close, can never meet me. I finally can see him tomorrow because it's my birthday. He is now one of the most respected guys at his school. But I, I'm still un-respected. The bullying have been so bad that, I have tried to kill myself several times. But I couldn't do it. You know why? Because my cousins, my three friends, my brothers my mother and father will miss me. Remember I talked about my friend that got new friends? He doesn't have social anxiety anymore. But I have. I fear my classmates and my teachers. The only thing that makes me happy at home is my piano. I love sitting down and playing all the songs I can find. I still have a lot of life left in me. I want to be happy even though, I can't face anyone who isn't my family. I probably won't get a wife, or kids. But as long as I have three friends and a piano, I'm happy. I'm getting everything I want in life. I'm following my dreams and I want you to do the same. Think about what you say or do in life. Don't go the same path as I did. Try to do something I couldn't. Don't let anyone get in your way.

Everyone on here is so nice, and I just felt like since I'm really lonely right now I could just talk on here to feel less alone... I'm about to go into high school, which I'm absolutely terrified about, and I haven't had much -if at all- contact with people for the past three months. It's been really lonely especially when my parents are at work or on nights like tonight where I stay up. My boyfriend knew this always happened to me with summers and told me this summer I would at least have him to talk to, but I haven't heard from him since the last day of school. I honestly have fallen out of love with him, as you can change a lot in three months and I feel like I'm just not the same as I was when we last talked, like I've grown as a person. I hope I will find someone who can be there for me, I've always dreamed since I was little that someday I would meet someone would stay. I became obsessed with this song when I began to read this book series. I went hours upon hours replaying the song over and over, finishing the first, then the second and third book all in the same week. I felt a connection with the narrator because she too had an enjoyment for all sorts of musical instruments, (preferably piano I'm imagining) and had a deep love for rain. Not a single day goes by where I don't get an indescribable feeling in my chest when I listen to this song. River Flows in You has to be the best song of all time. Not only is it appealing to your ears, but this song seems to appeal to your soul as well. I will never stop listening to this song. Ever. And that is a fact.

Annaenri 08 I also became obsessed with this song because in 5th grade my teacher would play this song whenever we were reading. The book series I was reading was Warriors. I too felt a connection with the book and author because we both loved cats so much. I remember when my friends and I would walk around the hallway like cats and meow like there's no tomorrow. My teacher and classmates would crack up. In 6th grade, I kept on reading Warriors and I was in love with this book series. At the end of the school year I read 62 books. I read the highest number of books in our school history. I felt like a nerd but I really didn't care. This song is so beautiful and you can open up to anyone in the comments or you can just let it all out. I came here because a friend suggested it to me. I was having a hard time today with anxiety, depression, and for some reason I felt like I was dying because everything was hurting. It started raining and I went outside and Sat on my swing when a friend suggested this to me because they knew I was down today. this made me feel so much better. I don't have a headache anymore and when I looked up at the skin I remembered all my loved ones and the ones that passed. I sort of cried but I got over it and thought about how happy everyone is to have lived such a beautiful life. There was a cat in my garage. I thought I was a dog person until I caught her. We named her Oreo she wasn't even a cat yet she was just a kitten. My whole family fell in love 😍. She was so little. We had a doggy door from our previous pet so she discovered how to use it. She was potty trained and everything she was part of the family. One day she came in the doggy door and she was covered in spiderwebs, dirt and blood. Not only that she was pregnant . She was way too young. We all begged dad to take her to the vet but he just didn't have the money at the time. Me and Oreo just layed in the bed with the last shred of hope in my heart I have for her listening to this song. I woke up the next day but I'm afraid she didn't.

every time i hear this song i think of my first crush/love. we knew eachother since kindergarten and i know it sounds crazy but i honestly felt that he was one of the first people i have ever had a deep connection to. he and i loved this song and he played it for me a few times because it sort of our thing. years passed and we grew apart and he dated my best friend three times and many of my other friends while i watched from the side lines. we still had a friendship but i silently wished on the inside that we were more.

Here's a story of me and the love of my life.. (true story)
I met this girl when I was a senior, she lives in Ohio and I lived in Texas we first met in a free video game in PS3 called DC Universe Online, she said that it was weird that she'd meet a guy like me in a video game. We stayed as friends for a year, we Skype everyday when we go online or message each other in Facebook.. I'm just gonna skip to the day I finally opened up to her about what I felt about her, I told her that I liked her and she did too. The two of us were afraid to tell each others feelings because we didn't wanna ruin our relationship as a friend, and so I told her that we should meet each other in real life some day and we did. It was Christmas 2013 the day we first met each other, we walked around the park and just had a fun day and we finally sat down and I asked her what she feels. She told me that she wasn't ready to be in a relationship because she had some problems in life that she never told me before, and I told her that I have some problems too that I never told her either and so we shared each others story that we never talked before, I told her that, before we go in a relationship that i'm not a perfect guy who she think i was in a video game, the reason why I play a video game is to escape the reality. I was raised by my grandparents, my dad left my mom when she was pregnant and I'm a loner who never had real friends, everyone who i loved passed away and left me.. I hated everything about me, my life sucks so much and i'm so lost that i don't know what to do anymore. She just hugged me and didn't say anything. Me and her were together for almost 2years, I never knew i would actually found someone who accepted me for who I am. Until one day she passed away, she committed suicide. I know she had a lot of problems and I did what I can to make her feel that she's not alone. I just lost someone who really means a lot to me, she was my everything and I love her. I almost killed myself because of it, I don't know what to do in my life anymore without her. I know she will never forgive me if I do it and so I blamed everything on myself, I hate my life until today, I cry everytime i hear this songs because she used to play this when she's sad. I've never been so happy in my life when I was with her, i still remember every single moment that we have and I will cherish it. She was the most beautiful and unique person ever, to me she's perfect in everyway. Wherever you're babe I love you, thanks for everything.
Thanks for reading my story, I know my story sounds like a dream that would never happen but it did. I didn't believe it too that something like this would happen to me, without her I wouldn't be here today sharing my life story. My advice to everyone is please whatever is happening to your life right now if you're suffering with depression and anxiety don't do it. Me and my girl can relate to your situation, we've all suffered at some point where we feel useless and feel like there's nothing to live for. We all make mistakes. My girl used to say this (*Everything what we do everyday is a life lesson*) I'm 19 now and still suffering, i'm still making mistakes, I still cry but this doesn't stop me from living. My girlfriend gave my life a meaning. So please if you need someone to talk to, i'm here. Yes i may just be a stranger but i'll be your friend. I'm sorry if you're suffering right now, but trust me it'll get better.

I've been in this depression for about 3 years now. Some periods worse than others. I've had suicidal thoughts here and there, but never really had the courage to try it. Maybe in the future. So I just failed a class. I have never before failed in my life until now. I’m a sophomore in college, and I have parents who expect so much from me. I have made them proud over and over again, and they trust me with their lives. One of my biggest fears is losing that trust, along with them being greatly disappointed in me. I was top 40 in my high school (somewhere in the 30s; not that impressive but it was enough for my parents). I received decent grades for my first year of college despite being 9 hours away from home and all the workload. Things went really well, and my parents couldnt have been happier. I was succeeding. Summer comes along, I’m taking one class for five weeks, and all of the sudden, I just fail. I cried and punched myself that night. They had confidence that I will continue to succeed, and so why would they ever worry about me failing? I havent told them I failed yet, but I’m acting as if I had passed, as if everything is going well as usual, and they are completely believing me. Now that I have dropped the ball, I’m just so afraid and angry at myself. I’m afraid of my father beating the shit out of me for wasting his hard-earned money on my education. I’m afraid of my mom just shunning me for failing this one time. I keep thinking they’re right. Just how the fuck could I possibly let this happen? How could I have the audacity to waste money and time? I think I deserve whats coming, but I just feel so depressed and hopeless. I impress a lot of people, but I wont ever amount to anything unless I first impress the two people that raised and loved me since I was born, but I guess I’m failing at that too. I finally fucked up big time, and my parents wont see me the same way ever again. I dont know what to do. I’m a waste of time and money and I dont deserve their support anymore.

Once, when I was on the speech team during a meet in Chanhassen earlier this year, I was waiting for 2 of my friends to do their duo piece, and at one point as I was telling them I liked this one girl in my school as a friend who was in my Math Essentials class, one of them asked if I ever had a girlfriend. I said "No, but I do wish I had one. Right now it feels like everyone else is with a boyfriend/girlfriend all except for me." The other promised me that she will look at the friends she has and send me the photos of them through snapchat. I got my friend's snapchat account and she got mine, and I was waiting excitedly for what I thought was going to be the day I would get to meet my newfound lover. But one day, she told me there were only a couple of friends that she had, and they were both taken, and she offered to help me look online, but I declined as I was too heartbroken to care at that point. Several days later, I told my parents, who were both excited for the fact that I was going to get a girlfriend, that my attempt has failed and I have nobody to be with. They both felt sorry for me, and my dad was proud of me for speaking up about my problem, as when he was a teenager, he bottled up his anger and sadness and never talked to anyone about his problems, not even to his parents. And both my mom and dad told me that they probably say that to make me feel better about my singleness problems. But, a few days before I got around to talking about it, I told my friend thanks for trying. Later on that day, I assumed she DID say it to make me feel better about my singleness problems, and in the end, I decided letting this obssesion with girls go was the right thing for me to do. Now, there were many times that I got excited for something and then had all my dreams smashed to pieces, but this one hit me right in the feels. I have been sad about it considering I was so close to getting one.

Here's my story guys
So me and my family went to koh lipe at Thailand at school holiday we had so much fun there and when we go out to the ocean, we met a heavy storm. At that time we tired to go back to the island but our boat flip.the waves are big, the rain is heavy, and the life jacket did not even stand a change. I hold on to a piece of wood and I saw the waves are pushing me away. Several minute later I saw a speed boat, I shouted "help" and when the people on the speed boat saw me and they quickly come and save me. I told them what happen and they tired to find my parents, brother and sister. But... They didn't make it... I don't know what to do and I'm 12 that time. They take me back home and my aunt decides to take care of me. I thought that day would be the best day of my life but Shit hits the fan. Every time I went to my school I"ll just cry, thx to my awesome friend supporting me and tell me not to to give up. This song makes me cry so badly.

Love hurts...
I never learned how to fall, or how to be in love. To tell the truth, how do you know if you love someone? I found out when I actually did fall on love. My best friend... Danny. I fell in love with him. He protected me, was there for me, and he noticed my depression. He also flirted a couple times, saying that I was beautiful. Asking me why I was single (his friend asked with him). I loved the way he would hang around me. When the last days of school before graduation came around, we watched movies all day in class. It came to the point where I was sleeping next to him. Sometimes on his shoulder. My teacher knew I liked him! You think I could tell him my feelings? No... There were two problems. My best friend Mia was in love with him. I never told her I liked him, she told me she did. I didn't say anything. It was wrong to be in love with your friends crush right? He didn't love us back though. He liked another girl, Yocelin. I supported him. Even though Yocelin hated him. But the worst part is. When summer came around we stopped talking. Danny was out of my life. So is Mia and everyone else. It was one sided love for all of us. I miss him... so much it hurts. I am now in the process of forgetting. Everything that had happened in the past. A clean, hurtful state.
Love hurts... But is it worth fighting for? I don't know. If you do... tell me...
Two years ago and no replies... Hey, girl if you're listening from 2019 stay strong. There are about 7.5 billion humans on the planet, at least one of them may be yours. So if you feel like nobody loves you. Just remember, if 99% of the world hates you. 75 million will not. That's alot of people who would still care. And I will be one of them. I love this song so much, and it has so much meaning to me.
I just randomly found it one day and fell in love instantly, & maybe a few months or so I run into this guy. we talked and found out we had so much in common. he asked me one day what my favorite song was, I couldn't think of one on the top of my head. he told me his favorite song was River Flows in You, even though it's technically not a song. I've never met anyone who knew this song/piece who didn't hear it from twilight (I didn't even know it was on twilight until later on). I learned this on the piano and play it at least once a day. I'm planning on playing this at our school talent show as a surprise for him. I found this video and I just love it. I listen to this exact video on replay while I'm asleep every single night. the rain in the background is just an amazing touch to it. I also really love that it has no words so it doesn't get annoying. now, this is me and my boyfriend's song. thank you for reading all of this!!

Your comment made me pause for a second as I remember saying those exact words when my Dad was dying 12 years ago at Christmas. Finding the "good" is so very, very challenging, but eventually when we stop longing and our head finally lets go, we realise we never let go of the love we felt we were going to lose, that's an illusion of the mind. True love stays as it remains in our hearts and it allows us to love much more and without fear. Losing him has taught me how capable I am and how to love and truly live. It also gifts me the truth of that love is eternal. There is much "good" in that and in knowing that he will always be with me. Thank you for helping me to remember that tonight ♥
I'm glad... There is always something good in something bad (however you would decipher bad). Sometimes it will be hidden and have to be coaxed out to be seen, but it will always be there for those willing and/or needing to find it. It takes strength to discover it, and sometimes we need help. But everyone finds it. Sooner or later.

Lovely words Scarlet... I didn't initially see that your comment was a mix of two aphorisms in this video. Some don't always find the "good" I feel though, and they remain in suffering throughout their lives. My understanding is that everything here on earth is an experience offering us an expansion of consciousness, be that in the "good" or the "bad". In that "bad" everything eventually can be seen as a gift, an opportunity and a teaching, and I think that's what the journey of life is for... Daniel Hill EFT NLP Coach It is the gift of life that most don't quite understand. I feel that this gift has been given to us to find the "good" and "bad" we find ourselves facing all the time. Yes, some people suffer, mainly because they cannot see the good that has been laid out for them. The best analogy I can think of is a scavenger hunt, where there are clues laid out for you to follow. Different clues for different objects (objectives) to find. I'm glad I could share this with you, for not a lot of people touch on this subject. It's a delicate matter. :-)

Just like everyone else here is my story. my story is about me and someone special. all through my school years no one liked me but I made one friend only one and she lost all her other friends because of me as I thoughts so I tried to avoid her so maybe she would get her friends back but one day she found me and explain why her friends really left. She told me that she cut her self and her friends wanted nothing to do with that. Then she told me she wad depressed I literally talked to her for 3 hours about it almost everyday and one day she came to me telling me she tried to kill herself we were both in tears and I talked and hugged her for almost 5 hours. The next day i got a note in the mail saying "I love you.... I'm sorry" I ran to her house and saw her dead body there and I cried for hours on end but I'm over that know and I live a decent life.

They played this at my aunt’s funeral. Every time I hear it I cry now 😥 But I know she is now in a better place and she is no longer suffering from the diabetes that took her life. And each time I listen I cry from grief, but also joy. Just like in the video, rain can be heard, but birds tweeting can also be faintly heard in the background. Even in times of grief, there will always be a faint speck of light at the end of the tunnel, and it can always be reached. My loving aunt, the first to see me when I was born, who let me help her cook breakfast every weekend, who was always there to pick you up when you fell, and who had a heart fifty times the size of the universe, may have left this world, but I know she is happy, and that’s she is in a kingdom of light, peace, and happiness, way up there in the clouds, and that some day I’ll see her again. It’s difficult to lose a loved one, and for those who have had to endure that, I am very sorry; it’s terrible. But don’t be sad forever, because they are all gathered up there on the shores of a beautiful river, waiting to walk through the big pearly gates with us, and they are no longer suffering from whatever it was that took their life. This song just helps release the sadness, stress, and all negative energy from my heart, and it is very beautiful.
