I picked up one of these to test caps for ESR and unmarked toroids for inductance. Fyi, you should calibrate the unit before using it. Insert the test leads in the ZIF socket and press the button. It will do a self test and calibrate. Takes about a minute. When I got it I did the same thing you did and tested a bunch of parts in my junk box. I was really surprised at the device's performance. It exceeded my expectations for the price. The unit is a worthwhile addition to any hobbyist's or amateur radio afficionado's bench. My only complaint is that the display has a short timeout. I know you can change it by opening the unit and moving a solder jumper. However, it only gains you about 5 secs.
That's a step up from the LCR testers that have been everywhere for the last few years. Colour screen, rechargeable battery, and a nice case... What more do you need in a cheap tester!
Cheers for the video content! Excuse me for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Tarbbatigan clean errors Tip (search on google)? It is a good one off guide for discovering how to fix electronic devices minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my mate finally got cool success with it.
Yes I have this. One very awesome friend gifted me. It is really useful in some places. Good unit. I have review of this unit on my other channel and on my this channel soon I would upload the review. Regards,
It's actually called a ZIF socket--Zero Insertion Force. We used to put them on Atari and Commodore cartridges and plug in our own EPROMS back in the day!
I think that old remote is for an HP computer. It will have an RS-232 receiver unit too. I still have one somewhere too. I have a box of old remotes too. Haha
There are lots of these tools around ebay from chinese sellers mostly. You can get them much cheaper - without battery. Quality and capabilities are fair for the price but you cant expect much accuracy, esp. in the inductive and capacitance area. But anyway: helpful little tools on the bench! The IR decoder is cool tough. But have no idea what to use it for...
Yes, unless you exactly know what you do AND have the right equipment for the job i wouldn't try to do kind of calibration on this - i even dont know if you can. And if you get it more precise in one aspect it could be worse in the other. You just have to know what you can use it for - they are practicle little helpers on the bench to check transistors, mosfets, igbts and even simple ICs. But you should expect 5-10% error in some cases.
I have the cheap Chinese one with ought the case... but they seem to work the same )) I just wish I could trick it to measure smaller inductance from 1uH and up at least... now it won't go lower than 10uH
I have one of the Chinese knockoffs (if you can say that about an open source device) that I got from AliExpress. Very handy, especially if you don't have normal color vision so color codes are indecipherable.
I purchased one quite a while back, few months ago I think & mine would not do anything but just light up on the background light. Mine was the taller version but still the same unit as far as how they work, well for some folks but not on mine, at least I got my money back but afraid to purchase anymore since that happened.
Tibi Poka Doubtful. Some components (like resistors) categorically cannot be tested in-circuit. Others, like capacitors, require special testing methods to measure in-circuit.
QUESTION: Does this have a replaceable cell/battery/batteries? (e.g. 14500 lithium-ion or similar?) I understand it's rechargeable, but can I simply replace cells with off-the-shelf when they go bad or is it some weird proprietary cell? ANSWER: I found it on a different youtube vid v=xvHW9zVjC3E at about 07.10 mark. Looks like it's a Li-Po 3.7V cell, 400mAh or perhaps 500mAh. Some other LCR tester models use Li-Po 180mAh cells (at least 1/2 this size) so the info is probably accurate. It appears to be a 2-wire connection and SOLDERED in to a pin-in-hole PCB. So, It will be RELATIVELY easy to replace if you can solder. It's not a proprietary battery pack and there is no control chip. I'd likely try to install 2-pins on the board and put a mating connector on any replacement cell. CAUTION: Draws power even when powered-"off". From yet another source, a user indicated that even with the power turned off, the battery would be FULLY drained in about 3 months. Full discharge is VERY BAD for Lithium cells. I have NOT verified his 3 month claim. This suggests you should never leave this item on the shelf or in your toolset without using and charging it at least once a month...or the battery will need replacing much quicker than expected. An alternative would be to install your own PHYSICAL on-off switch in the plastic case (after warranty is expires). It should be fairly easy to do.
I just bought one of these on Ebay and it doesn't work. The screen just flashes white then it shuts off after the 20 secs. it's doing something. I think I've seen the yellow header flash on the screen momentarily once or twice. Anyone have any tips on to get this work?
I have one, it really works fine except for the IGBT test, all the chinese component testers do not test IGBT's. If you need a real tool Peak Atlas DCA75 Pro is all that you need. Cheers.
I have multi-function tester TC1 but i can't turn on device. It worked little bit and theh drop dead. It's not a battery. Maybe someone know solution. Thanks
Hit you power up button on remote check batteries good video I like I'm going to buy one replace a 5 dollar ribbon cable on a flat screen TV fix that I bought a pallet of broken flat screen TV from recycling center $20 , about 100 broken tv. It a hobby only. May be handy to reclaim component in old tv for other projects.i up grade up old Flat screen TV. To a 4k pixel board and spit 3-d for about $30 it a fun hobby in side a tv I remove the international camera that can look at you through Tv
hi you say ex ladys in your video i have been down that road myself so i understand they try to take over you hobbies i just kick them out like the video's
Dave reviewed a similar, but much cheaper, product that does not have a colour display or the IR receiver. The colour graphic display is nice and so is the IR receiver feature. Would be better if it could display codes for all remotes. Not sure it is worth the $40 Cdn vs. around $10 or less for similar universal testers like the one shown in the EEVblog video.
The numbers shown on screen correspond to the numbers on the socket. anode/cathode, C/B/E, etc. Very handy. I just ordered one. Neat!
I have stuck a copper strip onto the face of mine with a few spots of superglue. Now I can discharge capacitors quickly before insertion.
That's a great idea!
I bought one a short while ago... very handy!!
These Multifunction testers are pretty handy for the price
If you haven’t figured it out yet those three pins attached together and the cap are for calibration of the device
I like that it checks zener diodes and gives the voltage rating.
i think only up to 4 volt zeners or so, o more, so next to USELESS
I just ordered one of these. Thanks for sharing.
Yes I have this. One very awesome friend gifted me. It is really useful in some places. Good unit. I have review of this unit on my other channel and on my this channel soon I would upload the review. Regards,
Holder-clippy-thing is the ZIP socket, dude! You can get this tester on eBay for $8!
It's actually called a ZIF socket--Zero Insertion Force. We used to put them on Atari and Commodore cartridges and plug in our own EPROMS back in the day!
For $7 you can get one with no case and a monochrome screen that'll also test some surface mount transistors.
That intro tho. Classic.
Thanks! ;)
I think that old remote is for an HP computer. It will have an RS-232 receiver unit too. I still have one somewhere too. I have a box of old remotes too. Haha
You can also get them as a kit to build yourself which I'll be doing
Ordered one... Thank you for that video !
Can we measure the SMD Component mounted on any PCB by this Multitester TC1?
That computer remote is for a Packard Bell computer! I know, because I had one. Check the small logo at the base.
Thanks. I couldn't remember what it was from.

Do you happen to know which units to buy or avoid?
Can I check capcitors... on the pcb without desoldering.
There a ESR meters with this function.
I have the cheap Chinese one with ought the case... but they seem to work the same )) I just wish I could trick it to measure smaller inductance from 1uH and up at least... now it won't go lower than 10uH
Nice cheap test tool. I will buy 1 of them as soon i can ! :)
4:37 the fighting out process XD LOL good style man.
I have one of the Chinese knockoffs (if you can say that about an open source device) that I got from AliExpress. Very handy, especially if you don't have normal color vision so color codes are indecipherable.
What do you mean? The different brown tones are clearly distinguishable
@@NabekenProG87 he means he is color blind, so the color codes are impossible for him to figure out.
Thank god the tool menu was in English!!
I purchased one quite a while back, few months ago I think & mine would not do anything but just light up on the background light. Mine was the taller version but still the same unit as far as how they work, well for some folks but not on mine, at least I got my money back but afraid to purchase anymore since that happened.
Yay! A new Coke & Strippers video! Welcome back, Monta! Also: thanks for showing me a new tool that I need to buy and find a place to store, lol!
AirborneSurfer, c'mon man, YELOW-VIOLET-RED PLUS SILVER OR GOLD FOR TOLERANCE! It's not that hard. And 4.666k = 4.7kohm. Not that hard.
I suguest Even the IC tester + ir are the perfect couple
Can it test capacitors in circuit, there is others available much more expensive, but I see this also checks the ESR
Great for the price. I should get one.
I have four of these type meters ,they didn't come out with this ,tell last ,I do like that one multi color screen and rechargeable
Try to measure a capacitor lower than 10pF and see if you like it.
Helo how much is that multimeter and how can i get it and where?
Can we check 7812 regulator ?
Hello sir. Can you please try smd capacitors with this tester and let me to know.
What about coils? Does it measure inductance?
Osamah Najjar yes it does
Yes it do.
not accurate for inductors
Hi everybody, someone knows of this meter test IGBT's or if posible to find a software update?
Thanks in Advance.
VERY USEFUL TESTER, THANKS
Subscribed , Big like brother, you are funny , he say I keep those old remotes in case I want to test them with some Chinese products someday 😂😂😂😂😂
Nice information thanks
Good review, happy guy , i like this review
Sweet, maybe this tool will motivate me to clean up my generic "parts return" drawer :)
What about if you have a bad component, would it tell you?
This is awesome.
how to know if a mosfet is bad with this tester? from vtheshold?
How to purchase it
if you want reliable and certified test equipment buy from Tetronix, Fluke or Hewlett Packard.
The rest is for amatures.
Armatures?
Or Peak/Atlas that is what I use but I have one like this to.
Can it test leds?
Hi I womder if i can use it on testing components soldered on the pcb ???
Tibi Poka Doubtful. Some components (like resistors) categorically cannot be tested in-circuit. Others, like capacitors, require special testing methods to measure in-circuit.
DO ESR meters work?

I Love the energy
What's the highest voltage zener it can identify?
4 VOLTS USELESS

I haven't tried to repair one, but my first (simplistic) guess of something to try would be to make sure it was sufficiently charged.
I had the same problem with mine. It turned out to be a cold joint on one leg of the crystal.
Hello, you're sure you're not crazy, why be so violent with the material. ?
i need one if possible thank.
I have one, it really works fine except for the IGBT test, all the chinese component testers do not test IGBT's.

I have multi-function tester TC1 but i can't turn on device. It worked little bit and theh drop dead. It's not a battery. Maybe someone know solution. Thanks
Had to switch on close captions...
This thing is cool!
Is a rechargeable LI battery included?
The battery is included.
If you get it out of the bright lights it will probably decode the other remotes.
I bet it can’t tail tolerance.
Does anyone know how or where to get a GERMAN manual ?
Love my tester
Can it test mosfets ?
Yes it does :)
EXCELENTE MEDIDOR, YO LO COMPRE. GRACIAS
MUCHAS GRACIAS
Or 2/3rds use a hitachi encoder. Doh!
Hi sir how to check damage parts
yasin mia, the device tells you it's unreadable or damaged.

what the hell? this thing is 60 dollars on ebay!
satisfying
You peeled off the protector and then rubbed your dirty fingers all over it!?
If you follow EEVBlog, he just did a pretty good review of it as well. th-cam.com/video/7Br3L1B80ow/w-d-xo.html
