  • The Dollars Trilogy, also known as the Man with No Name Trilogy is an Italian film series consisting of three masterpieces directed by Sergio Leone. The films came to be considered a trilogy due to American distributor United Artists smart marketing concept.
    This short video identifies the three films' timeline as well as a couple of "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" details.

    About 15 years ago I emailed Sergio Donati who was one of the writers of For A Few Dollars More. I asked him if he felt that Eastwood was playing the same man in all three films. Not really expecting a response, he wrote back stating that he felt Eastwood was playing the same character in all three films.

      One of the best decitions he ever made, protected himslef and the other two guys from getting buried, getting type casted, that cost him his relationship to Leone though and saddly with Ennio who in loyalty to Leone refused writting music to Eastwood´s westerns, Before Sergio died he and Clint had made up good.

    Fan theory: Major Mortimer is Angel Eyes. Angel Eyes survived his gunshot wounds from blondie (we also saw the man that tuco shot survive so it's not impossible). A Union patrol comes across a wounded Angel Eyes and one of the soldiers recognized him from the camp and so they rescue him and get him medical attention at a field hospital. Angel Eyes is still alive but is now believed to be an actual soldier and thus is forced to continue fighting for the remainder of the war. Angel Eyes is content with the job since he sees less action then he used to as a criminal and starts to actually care about the cause. Angel Eyes becomes a better person but returns from the war to find his sister raped and killed at the hands of El Indio, causing Angel Eyes to take up his guns again and become a bounty hunter who seeks out El Indio. This is supported because both Manco and Mortimer seem to somewhat recognize each other.

    Is that original opening for AFOD on an extras DVD? I've never seen it. The chap getting kicked in the river looks rather like Leone himself. He had a sharp sense of humour; I couldn't help noticing that the newspaper the Colonel is consulting in FAFDM was edited by Albert Grimalt, a reference to Alberto Grimaldi the film's producer.
    The taking of the poncho in TGTBATU is a witty back reference by Leone who clearly did see it as a prequel to the other two; so he had some notion of a trilogy in his mind at that stage. The fact that the Joe's hat at the start of AFOD has bullet holes may be a coincidence, unless there is evidence that Leone had already planned the later hat shooting scene in FAFDM.
    Very well done on the video and a nicely assembled narrative.

    I'll tell ya 😌 After killing Angel Eyes & giving Tuco his share, Blonde escapes. He moved to another city & lived his life under the name Manco. After a few years his money runs out so he becomes a bounty hunter again. But Angel Eyes is not dead. His henchmen saved his life but he lost his memory. He worked in the police force for several years & later became a bounty hunter. When he returned home, he found that his sister been raped & murdered. He decides to avenge her & is in hunt of Indio. When Manco meets Angel Eyes again he told his name to be Col Mortimier. Manco realizes that he had lost his memory but still partnered with him bcoz he didn't feel threatened by him. After killing Indio, Manco took all the money & lived in luxury for several years, but after the money ran out, he started looking for new opportunities. Now named as Joe, he comes face to face with a bad guy named Ramos but ultimately kills him & moved to another city where he started living by the name Will Munny. He there meets a woman named Claudia, whom he falls in love with. He married her & had two kids. Now he's changed man & is no longer a killer but a farmer. After Claudia's death & shortage of money, Will goes out again in manhunt in which he loses his best friend Ned but ends up killing Bill, a brutal officer. After which, he disappeared for good along with his kids & has been living a life in isolation since then 🫴

    Fistful of Dollars is generally felt to be the latest in terms of year. We actually see some Model 1894 rifles and a belt fed machine gun. But Leone was pretty low budget at that point and Westerns, wherever filmed, tended to use available functioning weapons for which studio blanks were being produced. The belt fed gun is mocked up to resemble a Mitrailleuse gun from the 1860s(multi-barrel)and it appears to function with hoses for air and smoke(no belt with blanks).

    Only in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, can you pin down an actual date because the movie is based on historical events, Glorieta and the shelling of Peralta. What is truly amazing is that even the most knowledgeable civil war experts don’t know that these events occurred!

    • @markw4907
      @markw4907 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glorieta is not depicted in the movie although it is referred to by a Confederate sergeant in a now-restored deleted scene. That battle was March 26-28, 1862, and the shelling of Peralta was April 14-15, 1862. There is also a film commentary which feels that the dead along the wagon trail are at Glorieta(another restored scene). Yet another restored scene references Apache Canyon and don’t miss that scene where Tuco and Blondie are arrested by a spy company...the officer might just be Capt. James “Paddy” Grayson.

    • @markw4907
      @markw4907 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Confederate invasion of New Mexico territory began in 1861 when Confederates proclaimed a new state known as Arizona. Leone isn’t real ironclad on dates and history; he wanted to make an anti war film about the US Civil War and these events allowed him to do this as a Western. But is Eastwood the same person in this prequel? While Leone denies that the characters are connected, it’s pretty clear that Eastwood has changed in both mannerisms and appearance at the end of the movie. When he finds the poncho and puts it on, everybody knows who that is.

    In for a few dollars more, the man with no name became rich at the end, so why would he go in another adventure while he can finally settle with that huge amount of money?
    So, for me, I consider it to be the last movie in chronological order, not a Fistful of Dollars.

    • @dannyboidee
      @dannyboidee 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's exactly what I thought as well. I like to assume that chronologically the movies are The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, A Fistful of Dollars and then finally For a Few Dollars More. If you set TGTBATU towards the end of the war you can string together that TGTBATU takes place first and finished with Blondie riding off with the confederate gold. I'd like to assume because it's the end of the war and Confederate Gold become essentially useless, Blondie had no use for it and decided to hide it in a secret area somewhere. He also had to go into hiding and flees to Mexico because he is probably considered wanted for essentially committing a war crime by blowing up that bridge. He probably spends a few years (and honestly let's not focus too much on the relevancy of the dates I feel like it jumbles it up) moving from town to town until eventually he stumbles into San Miguel and that's when For a Fistful of Dollars happens. Afterwards Blondie decides to go under the name Manco and do some bounty hunting as a job, eventually ending up meeting Mortimer and For a Few Dollars More happens. After that Clint retires to that farm he's talking about and lives out the rest of his life peacefully, settling down and hanging up his gun.

    It is like the Conan movies, nobody ever got Robert Howard anywhere close to right. Leone did Fistful and almost got what he wanted. A Few Dollars was closer to what he wanted. Good, Bad, Ugly was the closest to the theme and character Leone wanted. But it was not perfect and he wanted another bite a the apple but could not get Eastwood to go along.

    I'd like to add some informations
    Tuco mentions his two friends, Ramon and some other dude who i forgot the name, both from the 1st movie. He says " God knows where they are now" (all shot down by Blondie).
    Angels eyes and Mortimer keep the same golden watch or whatever that thing is.
    These two informations may tell us it is a sequencial trilogy..
    However, many actors play more than 1 role in the trilogy.
    Such as: Ramon and indio played by the same guy.
    That italian dude who is one of Indio's stooges and tuco's priest brother.
    There's a blondie guy who is shot down in the three movies.
    Angel eyes and Mortimer..
    Etc .. etc ..
    This is weird and confusing and make us believe that lee van cleef's roles are not the same. Or that he simply turned bad from the 2nd to the 3rd movie.
    I believe it is a normal sequence. If it wasn't Why would Blondie work for americans and mexicans in exchange for a a few dollars since he got his 100k share in gold from the graveyard? Did he spend all of it?
    Anyway I don't know what to believe anymore😂😂😂
    I just like to watch since i love this trilogy.
